good end to end game today at foster park as selwyn played a weakened coastal spirit squad. All a good learning process for the young Selwyn lads. Ft 4-3

Good game for the neutrals with the game going end to end. Things to work on for either side, but both have a few players to come back. Selwyn missing about 5 1st team players. Especially pleased for the 4 u17 players who didn't look too out of place.

Hows the squad shaping up mate? Any new additions following promotion? Any other news of transfer talk etc

I think the general consensus is that we should have stayed in the CCL to get players transferring to us with all this talk of those sides pushing hard to get the talent.

We haven't changed too much at all since last year (and the year before). To be honest, I'm the wrong person to ask in terms of transfers. I turn up to do my job and if there is a new face I say hi and go from there. A couple of young guys, but not sure of their transfer status so I will find out maybe a day or so before the Mainland website, but that is all.

If we had gone up a couple of years ago, then we would have needed quite a few more players, but the young ones who have been at the club are now that much older, that much stronger, and have had the consistent message for the past few years. The friendlies building up to the season will give them an eye-opener to what big-person football is about. And we will find out a lot about them in the process

Sin bin rule coming in this year apparently for dissent to the ref. Should make for an interesting season!

Yes being tried out, unsure if the whole country or just a couple of Federations that put the hands up to give it ago.

Will be interesting to read the details of how it is going to work, as was asking so of the refs watching at English Park the other week and they were awaiting the final wording details.

Sounds like will be implement for all grades that regularly have official refs.

If a keeper is put in the 'sin' will make it very interesting.

Here's the info from MF page, also applies to WPL and CCL teams too perhaps? Someone might need to send a memo to some of the CCL team if 2017 and the pre-season tournament is anything to go by...

Last we heard was it was to apply to top league only... but if it does come into CCL then yes a couple of our guys need to learn to listen to what is being told to them.

First para from Vim's link would point to CCL and WPL as well.

They might need to extend the size of the technical areas to fit everyone in!

Will the sin bin rule apply to Coaches??

Good question, my $5 referee course can answer this even though I don't know the official answer.

Coaches can't get yellow or red cards, they can only be warned and then sent to the stands. Therefore they can't be issued a sin-bin as it is like a yellow card.

Sin Bin. What odds a game will be called of if a team gets below 7 players able to take the field?

We’ll run out of plastic chairs at Parklands! It’s enough hassle when opposing players throw them in anger and snap them!

Parklands would be down to 3-5 players wouldn't they? Be happy to play them with this rule in place!

They've dropped them because common sense prevailed. Football (otherwise known as the beautiful game) should be accessible to everybody regardless of ethnicity, gender, age, ability or socio economic background. One of the few no-bullshark clubs left after the licensed club fiasco engineered by Mainland. Glory Glory Coastal Spirit.

2018 Subscription Fees – Early Bird Fees (Before 1st May 2018)

  • Mini First Kicks (3 – 4 years) $55.00
  • First Kicks (5 – 6 years) $55.00
  • Fun Football (7 – 8 years) $85.00
  • Junior (9 – 12 years) $125.00
  • Youth (13 – 17 years) $135.00
  • Men’s Reserves, Women’s PDL $170.00
  • Seniors $255.00
  • Senior Team Sub $3500.00
  • Social Membership $30.00

Yeah brilliant this. Being part of the skill centres the last few years its astonishing to see how quality some of the low socio kids are in our area. If only they could all afford to play... The more the merrier.

Had Cam Howiesons little cuzin in our group. 8 years old now and absolute quality.

Getting more Maori/Pacific island participants in the game I think is a key factor to New Zealand being competitive. Need more ways on getting these boys n girls involved!!!

I wonder how much rugby subs are these days...

Cheap prices are only relevant when comparing apples with apples. If coastal can provide a banquet for the price of a happy meal -fantastic.

If not then they are a community feeder club and there’s nothing wrong with that either.

However mainland not allowing non C/ CY licensed clubs in MPL in 2019 May be a showstopper

It will be a big ask for them to bring in the rule that only licensed clubs can be in MPL, in fact other than YF I haven't heard it anywhere else. Pretty sure it would need a big Mainland rule re-write to get it over the line, effectively removing clubs who don't meet their criteria.

It currently only applies to 13th and 14th grade, and they expect to push it out to senior leagues? Would love to hear if this happened in other leagues around the country.

Apparently the clubs in Auckland have told NZ Football to "stick it" & are continuing to do what they were doing previously, which makes it rather difficult for them to administer & enforce any such edicts. It only takes the person who is driving this at NZ Football to leave & whoever takes over to have a different view & it all changes yet again - hopefully then sanity will prevail & normal transmission will resume.

If only licensed clubs could play at MPL level it would mean 50% of MPL get relegated & 50% of CCL get promoted, assuming a licensed club isn't propping up the MPL table at the end of the next few seasons & Western or Burwood etc don't win promotion or it could be an even higher percentage.

In a broader sense, club licensing as a concept comes from OFC and to them from Fifa.

There's everything wrong with that ffs. If you're talking about comparing apples with apples then how abour comparing the price of all football code subs i.e. league, rugby and at a stretch netball as the major comparable winter codes? The way things are going here football is becoming an elite sport with way too many people trying to make a living out of it on the back of parents perception their little Johnny could be the next Messi or Ronaldo. Why clubs think they can just shove football development up parents back pockets I have no idea but it's ludicrous. In the current climate in Canterbury Harry Kane himself would have gone on to become just another chubby social footballer :) I feel another vote of no confidence coming on. And those prices aren't cheap, they're value for money :)

Hmmm, I'd love to see the bit where it says feel free to rort people if necessary even if it means some miss out?

Although when you hear some of the Fifa corruption stories it's really no surprise. Just waiting for the sex scandals to break now :)
