In the Reta Fitz 2nd semi-final tonight at full time. Western 1 Coastal Spirit 0. This the first loss in the Cup for Coastal in five season - not a bad record. Katie Thomas scored early with Coastal going a player down late in the game when Chloe Webster received a second yellow.

Western now play Cashmere Technical in the final.

The team will be gutted. Think the second yellow may have been for dissent, whatever, the ref had a bit of a mare. Had to have the subs numbers called out to him when they came on because he couldn't read them. Western played well and defended mightily while Coastal seemed to have an off night with a few players missing. Cup is Cashmere's to lose now.

Thanks for the "Coastal-centric" perspective: always raises a chuckle...Once your rose tinted glasses are removed, you might come to accept that the only " 'mare " last night was from the Coastal players: they huffed and puffed but couldn't blow the house down, against a team they tonked a few weeks ago 7-1. The ref certainly didn't have a " 'mare ". He got all the major calls correct i.e. off sides, fouls, handballs etc. He got a couple of 50/50 calls wrong with throw ins and the like but what ref doesn't? Webster got what she deserved: she was yapping the whole game(make that season...) and was warned by the ref after he had talked to Coastal's Captain: Might be time for her to shut her gob and concentrate on football: she's a talented player and was the major danger last night.  Yeah Coastal had some players missing, but so did Western: Their best defender and one of the Brodie twins were injured(both Pride players) and Aimee Phillips, who looks like snagging the Golden Boot, could only play the second half.It evens out in the end...  Oh and why is the cup " Cashmere"s to lose now "? A check of the results so far reveals that they've met Western once and drew 4-4, and the league positions are very close(if Western win their final two games against...Cashmere, they can pip them for second). Anyway, a good nights football on full sized pitch: always a better spectacle...

Wondered where you'd gotten to Ray, seems you only come out to play in the fair weather :)

Webby is a very good player and certainly doesn't deserve to be bagged by you. As for the coastal-centric comment what's wrong with being biased in support of the club you love who should have won by a decent margin going on territory, possession, time in opposition half etc etc but they didn't so fair dues to the Western girls. As to the ref, most of those so called 50/50 calls were clear cut, the guy couldn't see was my point, seemed to go with the team that screamed the loudest and went both ways - never said it cost the girls the game. Was a much better spectacle on a smaller pitch when we got the result every dominant team deserves. Good luck for the final, you might need it again I think.

Good to see you've taken the defeat well and aren't too bitter about it...

Disappointed maybe Ray but never bitter and certainly not twisted enough to denigrate anyone by commenting on their passion for their team, player or supporter. Onwards and upwards as we look forward to the National Knockout Cup and the League title, can't win them all :)

Brilliant!!! It seems that the Coastal crowd on this forum enjoy mocking other clubs and are happy to promote the spreading of gossip and innuendo, yet if anyone has the temerity to offer an opposite view to them, they come over all haughty and pompous, Sorry, but this is an open forum, not a Coastal Spirit love-in...suck it up

Rumour has it Christchurch Utd are in the poo poo!

Now now let's not get too out of control.

Yes we welcome gossip, sing our own praises and generally give our opinion on anything and everything in football.

Nothing wrong with that.

Looking at the snapshot for this weekends games.. both PDL and Div 1 Chch United Teams have defaulted their games.  Must be something in that.

Apparently they are going away on their end of season piss trip to Greymouth.

Ha ha yea Greymouth can they actually be fined for defaulting? They will just claim that mainland was to slow organising the cup so they organised end of season trip. After their result over FC they can afford to miss this week and will probably still go through on GD. Means we need to put at least 13 past FC next week to give us a chance ha ha

This is off their website -

Div 1 confirmed Winners and Promoted to MPL*

With Waimak's defeat to Universities earlier this week, Christchurch United are, at this point in time, league winners and due for promotion to MPL.

* However, a cruel twist could remain in the tail, as Mainland Football have decided for a 2nd time to review an appeal from Universities (who have already had points restored previously), as they plead their case to be forgiven for playing unregistered players earlier in the season. Any further points re-awarded to Universities could position them as league winners, and with a legitimate breach of competition rules earlier in the season, this would be a highly controversial decision if Mainland were to rule in their favour.

No mention of their end of season trip and default of their last game, I think Mainland will be having a very serious talk to them, totally disrespectful of other clubs and the competition. Everyone knows the season runs at least until the end of August depending on cancellations etc. Hard to defend or justify an in season piss trip, particularly if you aspire to play in the MPL. Could be more fireworks with this one.

There are whispers around that christchurch united may be in some strife in regards to the complaint from University. Information required by mainland was due in yesterday but did not meet this deadline instead asking for a extension, hmmm! From what I can gather there could well be a high number of games where points will be lost by united.

Well placed source told me they could only produce 4 team cards but that was a week ago. According to a United player they are not to worried about appeal because some of the player in question have been in town for years. We wait and see busy times ahead though with 3 clubs with appeals in on various things.

Permalink Permalink

From my understanding, if you have been in "town for years" you are still classed as a guest or overseas player if you have not written to NZF advising of a change in residency status, this is in NZF rules.  Think you will find that many clubs wouldn't even know that rule or clause

Another example of the poor rules surrounding team cards.

Wow.  I just found the Lingirie Football League (grid iron) on ESPN last night and was well impressed.

Would be amazing to see it live in the flesh too.

On that note I'm in the final process of booking the Ring of Fuego tickets to the All Whites qualifier in Wgton.  30 Coastal supporters cheering on the World Cup qualifier.

I hope it's a full size pitch.

Big game at Cuthberts Green on Saturday.

Get down and watch two of the best strikers in Christchurch playing, they still allowed to think of times past.

Coastal All Whites selection v Nomads wonderers if they know what they doing.

Last game Coastal won by 5 - 4.

you'd think as the qualifying league to MPL the div 1 team cards would need to be sent in too?! ridiculous!!!

90 minutes 9 goals, awesome effort. Stroudy's back will be as bad as his knees after that one!
