IMPORTANT NOTICE:

To ensure that the the Mainland Premier League is fair to all sides and to assists those clubs that think it "club9s) must get sick of winning week after week" is has been decided to make some changes that will take effect immediately.

Cashmere Technical will be split into three teams: Cashmere, Technical and Woolston, with all three clubs to share the current points that Cashmere Technical have, i.e. 7 points each with the MPL now comprising of 10 teams to be played over two rounds, the other MPL teams will retain their existing points. In effect the seven rounds to date have been "seeding", rounds.

We reserve the right to made more changes to the league to ensure all teams can go into the final round still having a chance of winning the league - Note this is likely to be a team that has never won the MPL as senior football is not about winning.

Well done.Just as funny as.
You missed the part about not allowed to play players over age in this grade.

Anyways, sure to lose me money here are my picks:

Coastal to beat Uni 2-1.    Nomads to get beat by Nelson 2-0.   Western to lose 2-1 to Tech, and Halswell and Bays 2-2.

Maybe I should've had a bet.  3 correct winners, 1 with the correct score even!

The 'board' did consider not allowing over age players in the MPl, after strong lobbying from several clubs that are convinced the MPL was all about developing players with the results well down the pecking order however it was felt if this this change had been adopted then the MPL would have to take a forced break during the school holidays similar to the Mainland Girls PL, sorry I mean the Mainland Women's PL

Another option that nearly got over the line was not awarding any points in the MPL but if was felt that additional resources would have to be taken on to HQ to administer this rule change.

One change we have up our sleeves is having a stand down period to any goal scorers but currently having talks with several key 'stake holders' to see how long the stand down period should be.

Yes Selwyn got 3 yellow cards on Sat, one for simulation which wasn't but hey and honestly couldn't tell you what the other 2 were for. Possibly one for bad tackle, but could have been talking to the ref in a way he didn't like and the 3rd I can't remember.
In terms of coach/manager getting sent off- its not entirely true. The story is that Stu Bola came on for Chch Utd and went up for a header on halfway against our central defender. The game was very open by now and it was about 10m in from the righthand touchline for Utd attacking. Stu went up and to beat our defender to the header, deliberately handballed the ball (with his hand by his head to make it look authentic header) and 'flicked' it on past our defender. Now the Selwyn bench went nuts appealing this and in the appealing I'm not sure if the A.R. or Ref saw the handball or were going to call it. The A.R. (lets call him K Peters, or Kevin P maybe) didn't like the language of our appeal to the deliberate handball and has called the ref over to remove 2 people from our bench. While the language you couldn't show on TV before 8.30, it wasn't malicious or derogatory in any way, just f'ing cheat, looking for a card for him too. Actually in the mêlée I couldn't honestly say if he was carded?
Where your story Vim differs is that it was the coach and manager. It definitely wasn't them, as coaches Lee and Richard were on the pitch at the time and the goalkeeping coach was one of the ones on the bench but not sent off. Our manager was in Fiji lying in or beside the pool drinking beer at the time it happened also. They were 2 people associated with the club and needless to say neither were very impressed with K Peters/Kevin P. If we had enough space on this forum I could put what we generally think of K P, but some may call this a family show.....
Saying all of this, Chch Utd deserved their win. We didn't come to the races which was disappointing and some may look at injuries in the game, or unusual refereeing as not helping but we weren't good enough on the day and were made to pay by a good side.

2 penalties were included in the 6 which were both questionable decisions, the send off in the second half was a straight red, doesn't that usually mean 2 games out?

Ok cool. The version I had from a referee (who wasn't KP by the way!) was that there were plenty of yellows and the coaches were sent off, there must have been some confusion as to who they were.

Wow. What a game that was.  I arrived late (as per normal) and Western were already 1-0 up. Western were dominating but Parklands still had some chances. When it was 2-0 the referee called for a completely random back-pass and Western had a free kick from 6 yards out. They missed but another player took a lovely dive to earn a penalty to make it 3-0. That's when it got random. Western had an attacking free kick just outside the box and the player took it quickly while the ref was setting the wall. He got booked for it. For the life of me I can't work out what for, perhaps time-wasting? Why anyone would time-waste at 3-0 up after 30 minutes I don't know.  The free kick is retaken and he missed, and as they were all running back to halfway he musta said something and got a second yellow.

Although down to 10 men they still dominated and Parklands pulled a few goals back, including a stunner from 30 yards, but it was no chance.  Another dodgy penalty call for a push from a corner and Western took it out 6-2.  Well it should have been 7-2 as they had a ball hit the crossbar, then the ground, then bounce up and hit the tight net at the top and bounce out. Everyone in the ground knew it was a goal but nothing said from the referee or lino.

I don't mean for this to sound like a referee roast, however there were some random calls in it.  Lucky he told the captain before the game that he had a hard day with exams and he might make a few errors.

And it's a real shame those two players can't play against Coastal on the weekend.  We'll take it!

Well atleast with his exams comment he got that right. The first yellow card at the free kick was because the ref had told him to wait for the whistle but he carried on & took it anyway, funny thing is is that no one can really remember the ref telling him to wait, correct second one was for backchat

The thing that really bothered me was the 'no goal' call where it had hit the back of the net and wasn't called.  Sure it was 6-2 at the time, but what if it was a close game and it was a crucial goal?
