I don't agree with you on the migration thing. example: a kid is playing for burwood, makes a rep team but then the next season decides to change to playing for halswell as the family now live out that way. If you try and limit player migration based on rep teams it could potentially scare off players/parents. Furthermore it creates a grey area which would be very hard to rule on...when is it ok for a player to change clubs? when isnt it? etc

Another minor hole in your point on rep limits is to do with player development. If coastal ended up with 14 x U14 reps and the ceiling was 4 reps per team would the other 8 have to play in their div 2 team? change club? Why punish clubs who develop their own talent or can attract them with strong coaching? or make kids change to clubs which arent their local...

I do however agree with your caps shouting completely. A rep coach should never be coaching/selecting a rep squad their kids are in. Also agree with the no rep coaches in their age grade.

Rep coaches should be sorted at the beginning of the year and travel round and actually watch some games. Talk to the coaches, get their thoughts, so when trials come around they actually know a thing or two.

I agree completely, but given the way some clubs struggle for coaches (let alone decent ones) as it is I suspect this is merely going to be a dream (for now atleast)

Nothing wrong with that lad, we've all made sacrifices  for football. Sometimes they've worked sometimes they hav'nt. My biggest regret is that I didn't make enough sacrifices.

So this morning's Press and radio reveal that Keith Braithwaite is leaving Tech to take up full time Canterbury United role.The last line line of the online report reads "Meanwhile Woolston Technical spokesman Bill Cowen said his club was very supportive of Keith, even though its an awkward situation for Tech". Fair summary?

Its the way it should be, as the Can U coach he shouldn't be involved as a MPL coach.

Wonder if this will see a downward slide for Tech in terms of players leaving over the next few seasons (ie: the united players who have gone there).

If it was more than a 14 game league I would agree. But do you have coach do no coaching for most of the year then do it over the summer? Wouldn't happen for players but are coaches that different.

I understand it is an awkward situation for Tech. Might lose all those potential Canty players!

Nomads may yet go down, almost certain if they don't knock Woolston over this weekend.
They have been on the wrong side of three ref calls that could have had them at least another 6 to 9 points.
Vs Bays, 1-1, Bays lucky draw when the ball hits the underside of Xbar and comes out, ref not giving a goal but lineo gives a goal from the 18 metre line,
Vs Tech, ref gives a penalty after 50seconds when contact clearly at least a meter [those on that touch line say it was 2mts] out to the side of the area, yes Tech the player fell into the box.
Vs ChCh U no penalty when Nashy barged over near the goal line and goal side of the defender in the 6yard box, no score at this point in the game. ChCh U at 1 up, get a penalty when ball drilled at defender from 2 metres and arms close to body, Keeper saved it. Nomads coach should have handed the ref a weetbix packet to put his badge in, cause I think that's what he got it out of.
Ass Ref on dug out side was embaressed by the refs performance judging by his head shaking. Both teams playing in Red socks no wonder the lino gave a couple of calls the wrong way. If you don't have the correct strip, Default.

Nomads did not just lose the 17 div1 team but also most of the 14 or 15 age group from the last couple of years that are involved with CSF or followed a coach.

I watched the first 30 minutes of the FC Twenty v Nomads game on Sunday. Nomads had scored the opening goal from a corner after 30 minutes and even then it looked a one sided game, the FCT11 keeper keeping them in the game up to that point.
Nomads had 5 reserve players starting.
Richmond will thrash FCT11 in any play off if the reports from Nelson area are only 25 percent correct.

When keith was offered the job for Canty he was already manager of Woolston, he was offered the Canty job because of how well he'd done at tech along with the two games against the phoenix. At the time Canty were aware he would continue his association with tech. Canty were quite happy  for him to continue doing the two until a few clubs put their two cents in claiming unfair advantage etc. Most of the lads that played for Canty from Tech were Tech players first not the other way around. The exceptions were Terris, Swaney and Barton. Tech set the standard for the last two seasons and due to that success people would point to having an unfair advantage because we had the Canterbury manager. The fact is players came to Tech because they were winning, end of story. The likes of Burnside and Bays who have inve$ted heavily in their squad should be the ones criticised. Tech, like the Western team that essentially won the National Youth League for Canterbury have always had the talent they just needed something to bring it together. That glue was Braithwaite and Pittman. Rant over

Didn't Pitman Kamo and Murray also go to Tech with Braithwaite?

Pitman and braithwaite  came to tech prior to their involvement with canterbury as management. Kamo came to tech after being in aussie prior to playing for canty. Murray played for canty in 2006, left for Ireland, returned and joined tech and had no involvement with canty until this season just gone. Fully except that this is a forum of rants, opinions, rumours and the odd fact, just felt like putting my two cents in.

With what their paying Highfield and Collins, if they win the league could be the most expensive title in the history of the MPL. Mind you their "investment" is showing a much better return than Burnsides did over the past 2 seasons at the moment.

The only team that really took advantage this weekend was western, they jump tech now and when they play each other for the catch up game in two weeks it will be interesting to see who comes out on top. Wow I missed a whole page of post match banter. Am I allowed to chip in @ 1:30am?

Not saying that Coastal deserved the win but how random was it that the lino flagged one way then realised he was pointing the wrong way so everyone had to reset. To make it worse, later on in the game the referee called a foul and called one way, only to realise he called the wrong way, so everyone reset, then realised he had the right way originally and changed his mind again! Classic comedy.

Woulda been great if Coastal had won that woulda really opened up the table. Big match next week against Nomads. Hung out witha few vagabonds tonight they seemed pretty happy witha point against tech. Still ten points behind but.

Sorry. One more word. If Bays are paying Kamo 350 a week then the world should come to an end should the moon man or christian lunatic predict.

Yes Tech do not look as strong this year, but considering up half their squad form last season have gone for various reason it is not that suprising.  AllWhites822011-05-29 19:50:42

In the last few years playing against Bays I've always seen them as a fairweather team. When things are going well for them they look like contenders to win the league but when its time to roll up your sleeves they've always been lacking. I remember in 2009 a top of the table clash between Bays and tech. Tech were 2-1 down with 5 to go playing into a howling southerly. Tech won 3-2 (ironically Kamo got the winner). Bays sank down the table after that and went on a 8 game losing streak, only surviving relegation via the play-offs. By bringing in Kamo and the Brazillian lad they've at least got that quality up front that means when chances come 9 times out of 10 they'll put it away. They seemed a bit lacking playing us but then you could put that down to a 1 0ff and Kamo was suspended. I guess what I'm trying to say is that winning leagues (be it la liga or the mainland) does'nt always come down to having the best team on paper, sometimes you need experience, confidence and a little bit of bollucks. Coastal will be kicking themselves because if they had won that one, I would have predicted a similer freefall to 2009 for bays.

Sure there will be some kicking of ourselves however could have lost it too. I hate draws as much as the next person however was a cracking game full of dramarama. Would have made the table a whole lot more interesting too. Next weekend could be a defining one at different ends of the table.
