And my game in Masters 4 this week is against a bunch of w!@#kers who seem to think that charging into a GK at every opportunity is OK - but we still drew playing with 10 men against them last time out :)

Seriously, what is the point of Masters 3, 4 and +45? 35 teams of old crocks re-living past glories; instead of attending a Premier League game. If my maths is right +500 old farts could attend 4 MPL games each Saturday arvo - that would increase atmosphere, club coffers and surely lead to more informed forum debate.

So lads, are we prepared to give up our Masters teams to support our young guns?

Done. Took me a while to come to my senses though (like 18 months out of the past 2 years off work with injuries!). The other side of Masters footy is the huge cost to the ACC system.
Masters footy should be played at 10 on a Sunday morning. Then they could get stuck in on Saturdays, coaching kids, refereeing etc.

Roslyn have not lost yetthis season and have several useful players and if the weather is not that flash could favor Roslyn.

The standard down south is not too bad now.

So Roslyn beating Coastal is hardly an upset then?

Correct but this is a Mainland thread and also I know Coastal management and players would like to reach the semi's for the first time and then see what happen's from there.

When is the draw for the semis?

Last 16 of the Chatham Cup in first year back in premier league (Macfarlane Cup, Hurley Shield); quarter-finals (not out) for Women - first time (in my understanding) NZ Knock-out cup has been considered a priority over the other comps (still good chance of premier league title and Reta Fitzpatrick Cup); not too bad in the Man U Nike Cup...  if there's a good showing in the Tsunami U-19 tournaments it would make it another step up in the progress (despite eqs) of Coastal Spirit FC.

Season not over yet for the Hurley Shield, I am sure Nomads would love to take it home on Saturday (but I do not think they will).

Coastal are surely favourites, no Dunedin team has got past the quarters yet.

Is it only the holder at season end that is recorded as having won the Shield that year?

I suppose it is cooler to have it at series end however all winners are recorded.

It's good to have it any time.
Word is the boys are fired up for this one, with all players attending both trainings this week, should be a humdinger of a match with Nomads also pumped.

Hi Ronaldoknow.

Some of us on here do play masters and coach Juniors on Saturday mornings plus watch the odd MPL game including 4 Coastal S games this year. I will be at Linfield Park later today.
Could have gone either way in the last two encounters between the sides, both teams with plenty to play for today. Nomads I'm sure will be happy with 1 point from the game.

Agree that if Mainland want to make the top of club football something to be promoted the top leagues for men & women should be played away from other grades.
Mainland want more leagues/teams to bring in more money & have forgotten their plans to make the top leagues better.
Thrown in the too hard basket I'd say.

Plenty of dramarama at the Coastal Nomads game this arvo. Very close match all round with a few chances either way. Nomads went close a few times and Coastal's Ash Wellbourn almost pulled off an amazing overhead. Halfway through 2nd half Coastal score from pullback from a cross. Last second Coastal's keeper catches the ball from a cross and shrugs off the attacker to which he gets a yellow and a penalty against. He does a double save and then it's time up. Defo chance for Nomads to take a vital point with two games to go.VimFuego2011-08-06 20:22:47

Yes if Nelson do not start winning could find themselves finishing as low as fifth.

Tulett Park looks to be the place to go next Saturday with Nomads needing to win by two clear goals, or better if they want to go ahead of United on the table by goal difference.

Two clear goals will keep them above, as any goal for Nomads goes as a positive for themselves, and also a negative for Utd. So effectively a 1-0 Nomads win will put them even on GD. (but behind on goals for). I might even give up my fave team to go watch this game next week should be a cracker.

What was the weather like?

BTW Coastal won 5-2.

It was alternately sunny and freezing and not sunny and even more freezing. Haven't been that cold for a long time. good game though in the conditions 9southerly gale blowing straight up the pitch. Coa$tal played better overall football particularly in the 2nd half but Roslyn were very solid and creative in the middle of the park and had players who could shoot accurately from anywhere. In the end stellar games from Jonesy, Lily and Serena made the difference. Football was the winner on the day with a good quality game in front of a few hardy spectators. Nice clubrooms!

Damn straight. Sending Men's team to Nelson and Dunedin, Women's team to Dunedin and possibly Wellington or Auckland certainly hurts the club's coffers.

Oh well, at least it went to a good cause and not to single players. :-)

Money is no object, well at least in my fantasy
Full employment and cheap beer, the perfect manifesto. Might have to do a bit of horse trading or sell the family jewels but well worth it. Fantastic season so far.

I have a question regarding lower leagues. How do the Presidents grades line up with the Christchurch Divisions? I always assumed that Presidents A was a step below Div 6 but someone suggested to me on Saturday that Pressies might be parallel with Div 4, 5 and 6. The reason I ask we we've won the right to promotion. Has anyone been in this situation or know any better?

Oh and we played like sh*t and beat Coastal 2-0 by the way timmymadden2011-08-08 18:59:28

I thought the only reason people played pressies was that they had rolling subs. But then I was told that a lot of the lower grades also play rolling subs too so not too sure. From my observation of the few games I have watched of Div 4, 6, Pressies A and C I would put Pressies A at Div 5 level.

You're not meant to have rolling subs in Div 6 and above but usually it's done by mutual agreement between teams before kick off.

Exactly.
Div 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 are for "serious" players. Div 3 is targeted at youth players stepping into senior football for the first time (but often doesn't work like that) while Pressies is for players with one foot in the grave.
Masters is for players with both feet in the grave but body still alive while Masters 45's is for those with pre-mortem rigor mortis.
Obviously a crook ref when you played Coastal! The protest for playing unregistered players/illegal aliens is already underway.

Really? After I played a season in Div 3 I had to move into the pressies team because I was the only player not moving onto masters. Although that was before they added Div 5 and 6.
