Another top day for the Hawks then. Pres A Cup winners too Although from next weeks draw it looks unlikely, our boys could be 3rd after next weekend.

I must say too, hats off to Mainland for declaring on Friday that today's games would not be cancelled. I thought we'd be a couple of inches under by now. Looks like a fantastic day for football.

Indeed. Off to watch Coa$tal Spirit women secure the Premier League title yet again.

Suprisingly Mainland DO want games to go ahead and they normally only cancel games if the Council pulls the pin on the grounds.

Congratulations to FC2011, Mainland Women Premier League champions for the first time ever. 2-1 thrashing of Coastal Spirit cementing the title at Avonhead park this afternoon. Good game in tough conditions. Coastal probably played the better footy but 2011 defended really well and took their chances, especially in the first half when they played into the teeth of a southerly gale.

Well done FC Twenty11.

Just the catch-up game between Western and Coastal to play but cannot alter position on table.

That comment came more from an historical context. History shows that Rangers and New Brighton (the 2 constituent clubs of Coastal) have dominated the womens game in the Mainland region for a very long time. Big ask for the girls to back up again today after getting past Woolston Tech in a tough game yesterday but hey, them's the breaks. More incentive to ramp it up next year. Good for the game to see the title go to the 3rd different club in the past 3 years, well done FC2011. Coastal still have the women's knockout cup and the Reta Fitzpatrick to play for, all in all another good solid season from a talented young side.

Interesting list:Nomads would have to be the club that has dominated Women's Football,if we are talking historically.Whatever Coastal are NOW,back in the 1970s-80s Rangers and New Brighton were two separate and distinct clubs(something a lot of old timers would agree with I suggest). No matter what standard Nomads Women's team are now, nobody can deny that they are the most successful club.Fact.

It actually appears that whatever Coastal are now they can trace there current success back through the history of both Rangers and New Brighton. I know the club values the Reta Fitzparrick Cup as highly as any other trophy because of that heritage. And it looks like several clubs have shown dominance at some stage. Good for Nomads to have something to cling to as they stare life in the football wilderness in the face for the next 12 months at least. What happened to that dominance?

Although when you read through the list Rangers, New Brighton and Coastal are on there roughly 29 times to Nomads 24. Now if Nomads were to merge with Western ......

Nice to see the oldest Sunday League club still going getting the name on this thread.
They had three women's teams back in the day, don't have any now.

Chatted to another old player from that club at the other weeks Coastal Nomads game, we both reckoned that their mens team playing in the SSL back in the mid 70s would have held there own in the MPL this year, if you BTTFd them forward to today.
Mind you 10 of the 11 starting players had played senior football for Canterbury or higher.

Makes you wonder what happens? I know there is a cyclical nature to the ups and downs of club life but why is a club that was so successfull in the womens game no where to be seen now?

Oh and another claim to fame for Coastal as the most successful mens Sunday League club historically through their New Brighton constituent, the mighty Rovers!

From what was doing the rounds back then, the last Nomads women's team left on mass when they and the coach had a tiff about money of some sort with the club. they went to play for Christchurch United, maybe he wanted to get paid more than he was getting for coaching or the players wanted money.
They then ended up at Ferrymead Bays [no surprise that if you looking to be paid] neither of Bays or Chch U have done anything in the women's grade worth raving about.
Bays no women's team anymore and Chch U one team only in the 3rd tier.

Papanui Redwood and Wiamak look as though they could be clubs getting amongst the higher women's grades in a year or two.

Glenbyre may pip Coastal/Brighton if you are looking at clubs with name changes in the Sunday League.
The web site only has Bolam Cup Winners no link to League winners from previous years.

And yellow snow melts quicker than normal snow. That's how you Wellingtonians roll isn't it? Or just the artificial turf....

Surely all games will be off this weekend. I reckon even MPL with possibly the only game to go ahead being the Womens Semifinal.

I'd be very suprised if theres any footy on this weekend. I can see rep trials for next weekend being moved/altered to make way for the double headers which may be needed to finish competitions

Yer there is now a few divisions that are going to need an extra week, unless CCC are happy for us to have one more week in Sept. We could argue that we started late???

Summer sports would argue they didnt get any extra when the shakes stole their end of season to the tune of 6 weeks. Mainland have made it super clear last weekend of august is it, we're lucky to be getting grounds for summer use as it is.

The rep programme should be interesting in terms of training grounds etc, hopefully all the teams to well....
