can someone fill me in on the last time any senior men's football was played in/out of the West Coast?

Do any players from there play for Nelson Suburbs?

Do they have a team in the Nelson local league?

Was a good few years ago when a senior West Coast side travelled to played down the grades in Christchurch, must had been in the old CFA days. There are junior club footy on the Coast but they play within there own region, unsure about senior football at the moment.

There is senior football played on the coast - a number of teams from hokitika greymouth and Westport I think.

The West Coast association used to play a rep team against a Sunday League selected squad. SSL used to play vs Dunedin and Wellington rep teams back in time.

Avonhead [Sunday League club] used to take a couple of teams over back in the 70s to play the West Coast rep or Marist teams. A couple or three National League players went with them for a good night or two on the large ones.

Shame I was late for the bus one year, held the bus up and had to take the seat next to the driver. Sigh.

Some well known Brighton lads also made those trips. Cops closed the Jacksons pub before we got there on the way back one year, we must have made an impression in town that year.

Other club [pre EQ days] teams from Nomads, Parklands and Varsity masters grades have gone over for a tournament put on by the Marist club.

I would ruddy well love a road-trip to the Coast. Let's get a Premier League team organised over there.

A Sunday League team still travels over every year for a 5/7 a side tournament in Reefton however I don't think it's very football focused, more of a piss-trip.  Unlike Timaru, that's for the top shelf players.

Big game on Saturday in the reserve league as Coastal play Cashmere in the final. I think it's being played at ASB and both sides have very talented young players

In 2001, I saw a National Women's Knock-Out Cup tie in Christchurch between Rangers AFC and Westland United. Rangers won twelve-nil. Westland United are from Hokitika.

Probably the worst season of Women's football I can remember: an abbreviated season with only three teams displaying moments of quality play. When are Mainland going to take this league seriously? All their talk over the years about developing women's football is absolute bull: where are the players of individual ability? A mere handful IMO, with all sides carrying a lot of " dead wood ". And I mean ALL... even Coastal had players who wouldn't get a look in 2-3 years ago. Mainland football's development officers have talked a good game for years regarding the women's game, and this is the result...happy? Rant over...

FC promoted 3-1 final score ?

FC and Selwyn best footballing teams in Div1.

FC has been more consistent throughout the 3 round  competition so well done; well deserved!

FC 2011 a very young team playing modern attractive football under the guidance of an excellent coach in Glenn Lapslie. His man management is superb too. The squad is so full of talent in all positions. Hope the squad stays together because they will go places if they do. Well done, well deserved promotion. Congratulations to all the players and the coaching staff.

"but" if you don't pay the dollars to be part of their "football plan" (FTC) then you won't get a look in when in comes to representing your province at senior level . Therefore the "football plan" has been a success - a financial success.

Apparently so. Shame it came down to poor refereeing, especially a local.

Every time I watch CTFC in the MPL they get a free ride.

Regardless a fantastic cup run, CTFC can be well pleased. Here's hoping Chch won't wait another 20 years for another C. Cup.

So well done CTFC.

Can't blame the referee for poor finishing which ultimately is what cost them the game

I also feel that Mainland need to look at to where the Women's PL is going. Need to try and ensure that their are no byes and there is and increase the number of games well above a dozen games of this season. Breaks in the league for the schools holiday - this is the senior's women's competition. This season the Women's PL started a month after the Men's PL and finished a month earlier so another full round could have been fitted in.

Several of the games I have watched this season have not had assistants / lineo's. Some ref's appear to think there is a different rule book for the women's game. Very few cards dishes out for some serious foul's, play stopped when a player goes down immediately (not a head injury) when the ball is still in play. Out field players getting treatment for an injury on the field with play Then restarting without the player going to the side line.

In recent season's several of the clubs seem to pay lip service to their women's teams, no real plan from season to season with coaching roles, with some clubs pulling their PL teams out just months before the season is due to start so not all the blame / fault can be laid at Mainland.

Right decisions or not it is a poor decision to put a chch ref in charge of a game like this. It puts him in an awkward position. Imagine the comments on him if tech had won with questionable calls. The standard of refs this year is appalling in div one yet for the top of table clash an Otago ref was in charge and was excellent. We lost 6-0

he never reported every thing I said Tom,in no way is the ref to blame for the loss. It was a great game with a quality side Eastern Suburbs the deserved winners and not do I blame the chances we missed by my quality players who were outstanding I thought.

im a big fan of things balancing out and we did get a bit of luck against Western.

Regarding the ref it is common knowledge that we don't see eye to eye . His assistants had an ok game .2 weeks back we were told a neutral ref from Dunedin would be reffing , he at least would have been strange to both sets of players . Look I could look at it with a patch on but I'm sure neutrals that I have spoken too all had similar views. And if the decisions were correctly given that's not a given the result would have changed. But the game is over and Eastern are top side deservedly in the next round.it was good to see a lot people outside Tech come and support the lads ; even Albi and Thomo

Look forward getting behind the coastal girls in flying the flag for the region

Congrats to FC2011 winning promotion back to MPL. Play good football and try to let the football do the talking, rather than hacking and chopping like some other teams. Good luck to them for next season!

The Fc v Waimak game also had plenty of moments where the ref should of gone to specsavers. The red ones he had on were dodgy.

Agreed. They played some outstanding football on Saturday and have so much young talent. Seems to be an excellent culture in this club which is captured in this photo. Congratulations FC and all the best for MPL.

Didn't get to the game Broonie due to the weather and grand-kids I was going to bring along for the atmosphere but was too cold for. We don't get games of that calbre often enough! Shame your great run has come to an end, always harder to take when things outside your control get in the way as well. Congrats to all at Tech for setting a high standard for the regions teams and representing us so well. Good luck in the SI final - I presume it's happening again this year?
