AW82, not sure if this has been asked previously but if Fc2011 finish 4th that must be close to being the best finish after being promoted. Glenn has done a great job with that side.

Hi Reddevil,

I looked this up just the other day.

FC have certainly down well this season.

Both ChCh Technical (2004) and Coastal Spirit (2011) both finished in third place after winning  promotion but technically Ferrymead Bays would hold the record when winning in 2002. This was the first season of the league and Bays did not take part in the former Canterbury League in 2001, but won the old CFA Div 1 to gain entry into the inaugural MPL in 2002.

Out of interest here are the teams in the Canterbury League in 2001 in finishing in order and points.

Halswell 54

Rangers 51

ChCh United 48

Western 43

Nelson Suburbs 36

ChCh City 33

Avon United 28

Marlborough United 24

Nomads 24

Canterbury University 15

New Brighton 11

Mid Canterbury 10

Kevin Mulgrew -Halswell coach.

Colin Curry - Rangers.  I think.

How much do we reckon cash tech will offer Sean liddicoat for next season

Silly question but my answer is the same as the last Coastal player that moved across Linwood Ave.

Recent announcement from Christchurch United - https://us7.campaign-archive1.com/?u=ec91c9689ed256...

Interesting, a merger of a different kind. So will the CFC become ChCh Utd? Will other clubs be willing to play games etc there and send their juniors to a rival club for training etc? Mentions a club of 500 members eventually. Personally I think it is good for football but what do others think?

If it did not happen then unsure how long ChCh United would have been around as a senior club.

Will interesting to see if junior players that are based around the Spreydon Domain area will stay with the Ram's, if the entire club is going to be based out at Yaldhurst or switch to another club.

They'll need to move regardless.

Is it fair  to say that the majority of CFA playing stock is ex FC2011 and  Halswell? That's a question not a dig btw. Does CFA presently have any Senior prescence?

I know a bit about what has gone on here.

It is more than likely there would have been no Christchurch United in 2017 had this not occurred. The Club will be providing football at Spreydon domain in 2017, it is unclear how many of the current membership will move out to Yaldhurst although it does provide an option for players who in  previous years would have left in order to play junior Div 1 football.

The 500 members is the total CFA / CU membership this season.

CFA doesn't current have any senior teams. Christchurch United will, in time be a 'full service' club. The intention is to grow players who can play at the highest level possible under the Christchurch United banner. While not an immediate priority there is an intention to rebuild the senior programme and gain promotion to the MPL.

The current CFA muster is made up of players from almost every club in the city, there are a number of former FC2011 players which is unsurprising given the location. At 10th grade and below there are a good number of players who had previously never been associated with a club.

The facility will continue to be available for the local football community - whether others continue to use it will be up to them but in my view it would be short sighted not to.

There will be a full year football programme provided at Yaldhurst, it will come at a higher cost than the traditional winter club but will be led by professional coaching staff and will have the use of some of the best facilities in the country.

This can only be good for football. If executed properly it will develop better players and encourage other clubs to provide better development opportunities and in turn develop better players as well. Logic suggests a bigger pool of better players will result in a higher standard of football in Canterbury.

Rumoured Lillicoat already said he is moving on, along with another Sean if he does not get a new upgraded sponsors deal.

Only rumours though.

If you're referring to O'Brien I can't see him moving back to tech where he seemingly got bored playing for a boring team, moving anywhere else would be too much of a step down

Just heard he enjoyed his season but was ready to move to get serious about his football again. Only a rumour!!

I am busy at Centennial Park Saturday morning but wish I were able to be at English Park to honour this true LEGEND of Canterbury and New Zealand. Never played alongside Steve but had the honour to play against him. From the moment he stepped onto Eric Adams as a 17 year old in the 1973 pre-season tournament you could see he was a young Colossus in the making. He redefined the word competitive for me and it is fitting he should be permanently recognised this way. Well done Mainland. Keep fighting Steve.

With Louis, Shane, Eddie etc. there are a few familiar faces (ex CTFC) but as silly as he acts, he is surely not that silly.

He enjoys picking up his winners medals too much and lets face it he does love that disco!!

He may as well play for a club with history.

The club history may be short but being on the winners list Y.O.Y. sure beats being relegated or coming second to seventh in any league.

At the end of the day you're both absolutely right of course, I'm just having a bit of a laugh. Whilst Danny is far too handsome looking for CTFC he will remain there for the simple fact of enjoying winning for fun, as well as the guilt trip he would receive from the Brown salt if he ever left

Significant day in the MPL with select big name players and coaches likely to be featuring in their final appearances for current clubs.

Managers out;

Halligan (poor season and sent packing).

Brown (Cash Tech looking for a freshen up and classier representative).

Players out;

Sigmund (marquee player struggling with injuries and aged body. Books have already been signed too).

Ogilvie (MPL bad boy still suffering mentally from stray kick out at Miramar fan. Career tainted).

Terris (using Dragons as his footballing farewell, two years too late?).

Looks like the MPL off-season will bring substantial name dropping to help determine how aforementioned clubs will fill the voids left by said departures.

Any additional information regarding club exits?

I'm interested in how the SW handles having no MPL or WPL presence. Hopefully not a player exodus from Halswell.

Fairly confident there will b new MPL Coaches 2017 season.

Well done Coastal MPL players and coach for attendFirst Kicks finale this morning.

Coastal lost 1-0. Coey scored a screamer in the 94th minute. Debateable on the foul but Ryan Stewart would grace any Olympic diving squad. Lol. Great game up til then.

Tough run in 3 losses on trot, still Ferrymead to come in English Cup. 3rd plays 4th should be close.
