We just didn’t come out the traps in the 1st half and Halswell punished us. Improved in the 2nd half but by then it was too late. Much different performance than last week

Looking like the league is wide open this year. Could be interesting in a few weeks when it all settles a bit.

doubt it, can see FC winning it with ease

Lets see a few more games first. Beating 9 man MC and then UC is only a start after a poor preseason. I still predict Burwood to come good but bad loss last week. Halswell play their standard way with ball over the top to 2 fast wingers but that can be nullified so who knows. Waimak - who knows, SAS and Parklands inconsistant so far.

Some intersting match ups this week.

As someone else said, could be quite open. It would be better than last year's $$$ procession.

That FC v Mid Canterbury was at 1-1 until the Mid Canterbury keeper was sent off and knocked out at the same time! From that point FC took advantage and put the game to bed

SAS vs. Halswell

Waimak vs. Universities

after watching them today I concur.

last comment was a reply to tom saunders student comment of 16 June regarding fc possibly finishing in bottom 4.

halswell vs Burwood was one of the worst performances by the ref and his ARs I’ve seen in a long while. Besides that halswell missed that spark from which they had in previous weeks and burwood looking good like last season clearly with some fresh faces,  just couldn’t finish a couple of chances to win the tie. Decent point for the boys in green with fc losing too!

The results this week just show how close this is going to be. My guess 5 points between 1st and 8th after the first round.

Fixtures in CCL for games on 25 July

Halswell vs. Universities

Mid Canterbury vs. FC Twenty11

SAS vs. Parklands

Interesting how things have changed since the first three games. Fc on top but as it turns out had played 3 of the bottom sides. Based on what I've seen so far Halswell look the best side but they've dropped points in 3 of the 7 games so really any one of the top 4 could win this. Burwood would be on top if they hadn't lost to bottom placed team and they're on a roll now so watch out for them. Waimak lost first 3 but are now on a 4 game winning streak. Big game next week when Burwood and Waimak meet on the Clare Park bog.

It’s even more of a bog after last weeks games!

This league still has a lot more twists and turns to come I think. Could be some varying results in round 2

I think after seeing all teams now that no team stands out. Or another way of looking at it, the level is fairly poor. General football seems to be hit to fast wingers or long to fast forward. Then kick, grab, pull, trip the other team when they have the ball and break any attack, knowing that refs aren't going to call much.

Only a few players (so far) have been able to hold the ball and move it around or beat a player.

Maybe I'm just cynical

Tbh the pitches aren’t in that great a shape to be able to play much football! A bit of rain like we’ve had and it’s very hard to play a passing game at Parklands Reserve, Clare Park and Halswell Domain!

Yes I agree with all your comments, it is a poor standard, whoever gets promoted will need another 8 players minimum of better quality (and there are slim pickings currently) to survive in the MPL. Looking like a race of three at present unless one of the others has run of form at the expense of the top three.

Do not forget promotion to the MPL is not a given to the winner of the CCL, just the right to go into a playoff's for promotion.

Plus at the end of round 2 the top 4 all play each other one more time
