I just thought it might come with the results is all. Do you know how the tournament team is selected? nightz doesn't seam to.

Coaches picking the opposition best.
Was also under the impression that was the case. The opposition coach is asked to pick a player from the other team after each game. Players with the most votes get in the team. An average player in a bad team gets all the votes and makes the tournment team. Thats what has happend in the past.

When Petone won a couple of seasons back they had no players in the tournment team.

Managed to catch the final. It really was a game of boys vs men. Hobson-Mcveigh was bossing the midfield, and you could see frustration from the Huttsy boys towards him in the second half, with HV drawing a few fouls. It's an interesting position for him- whenever he gets the ball those watching expect great things, and gave him a bit of stick from the stands when he stuffed up. Still, he was quality. Milne didn't do anything too flash, I was expecting more. Birkenhead also had a quality left-mid with longer curly hair- number 8 possibly?

Wasn't a great game of footy, I'd say on another day Birkenhead would've won by more.

Top effort by Lower Hutt to make it to the final, I wasn't particularly following the tourny but would have to say I wasn't expecting them to be there at the end of it, so fantastic to see. Pretty tough for them when their tall striker went off injured, he seemed to be the target for the first half.

Also- looking at the size of the subs when they were warming up at halftime- the Hutt lads were tiny- so seems they'll have a solid team in years to come.

I think boys v men is a bit wide of the mark with all the facts known.

In the opening 15 minutes either side could have been 2 up but unfortunately for LH thats where they started to run out of gas and players. The big lad up front was a passenger. He went to hospital at Ht with a heamotoa (sic) on his leg so probably shouldn't have started. When fit he can be unplayable.

I'm sure BH had their issues too but it was a great achievment for LH to stiill be in the comp never mind still in the final up untill HT. They went from the final group games to the final with midfielders deputising at centre back and a keeper unable to take goal kicks in the final.

Had LH scored first who knows what the adrenalin might have achieved. However BH looked like they had done their homework on closing down the wide threats from LH and were well worthy of their win. Conceding the opener right on HT for LH was a killer and the second was too big an ask to chase in that heat, sapping surface (Why did they have it so long?) and 15 yr olds coming off the bech v quality opposition.

It's easier to play keep  ball in those circumstances at 2-0 up and look like the men for sure.
Would be nice to have been able to have a second leg in a couple of weeks but no complaints about the result. Birkenhead are good Champs.

LH also lost their physio before the semi due to a family problem. I hear a physio from the same practice with another Hutt club was willing to, but not allowed to stand in by them even though they were out come Saturday evening. Any one any ideas who that class outfit were?

Nor did anyone from the other finalist, WoolstonTech make the tournament team, but 5 Napier players did.  Surely that indicated they are being picked by people close to the Napier club. Also a lot of players from the Satelite, so may be a bit of both applies.

We only had one player make the tournament team, Hamish Watson.   But LHCAFC's Ethan Galbraith has been added to the NZU20s squad.

If what I've been told about Glenfield being banned next year for off field behaviour is fact then that might save one team from relegation.

So you would be talking about the incident where Glenfield players got on the hammer, wents to East Coast Bay's hotel, taunted and abused the coaching staff, before finishing it off by egging the hotel?

Also heard that some North Wgtn players cracked out some weed and booze before getting snapped by the coaching staff.  However once the staff tried to take it off them, a fist fight broke out between the staff and player.  Heard it happened twice more.

not surprised no one wanted to mess with wellington united with the amount of coaching staff in your technical area during the tourny... at one stage i counted 8 coaches in there to 4 players...

was lol'able.

It was quite a lol, we joked about our management out numbering our subs ourselves. However, [I'm not surprised you can't count] we only had seven adults at the tournament and only 5 would have been in the TZ at any one time. Nothing wrong with people wanting to be involved, help the kids improve etc.

Three older guys that are involved alot with HB football pick the team. I think the whole team is a waste of time, its not like they play a game anymore like they used to, and with national coaches strutting around the park you would think they should pick it.
Opposition coaches pick the player of the tournament.

Wanting to be involved, not needing to be. Would rather have a lot of help and have things run smoothly than no one care and have kids running loose around napier.

2ndBest - I'm the last one they listen to, which is just as well.

Feverish, I hope it wasn't a lack of interest/effort from parents/coaches that led your club to pull pin from the Napier tournament?

I took a group of fifteen  14-17 yr girls to Chch on the weekend with three adults and things ran perfectly. Usually 3-4 at Napier is enough. But if you want an entourage that's all good -sounds like it didn't work that well though.

Everything went well for us in napier. You're not expexted to win the tournament with 16 year olds.

Would be interested to know if Petones 3 years unbeaten in Napier is a record? Unfortunately draws don't win tournamants, but I think Petone have now gone 20 consecutive games without a loss at Napier.

Not 100% sure but I think Caleb Duncan - captain/centre half - has played everyone of those games [except for one last year when he had concussion] since he joined the team as a guest player a few years a go. I'd also be interested to know if that's a record and would like to see how many goals they conceded. Pity they couldn't score a few more.

Does anyone know if there are results from previous years available online?

Petone / Caleb Duncan

2008     8              6           2            0          17      3       Missed 1 game - head ache

Pretty good effort - but heard he wasn't required for the Team Wellingotn youth squad!

I think they also drew or won the last two games in 2007. Definately beat Waitakere in the last game and think they had a draw in the game before that.

That would make 20 in a row unbeaten though if my recolection of 2007 is correct.

Caleb wasn't part of the squad that year.

And what a great young man Caleb is.  He stepped in as captain of MAGS last year when regular captain Ryan Elder was out of form and led the team to the Auckland and national titles - Fallon thought the world of him - since then I've heard he's dropped off quite a bit...I thought he might have pushed for the u-20s

Think its Rubbish that Central Utd aren't putting in a team because of the NYL.. they are in no real doubt of missing on a semi-final spot because well Waitakere and Auckland with HB and Waikato? It's there semi-final places to lose. If this is the case anyway wouldn't it be smart to put a Central team in with the majority of those Auckland City players so they can play together and gel a bit more? Just an Idea. Petone lose 3 players and of course Lower Hutt will be strong.. Whats Birkenhead like this season?
