Definitely more threatening team in the second half - great finish from Farina Anchico on the first goal, came in from the right and buried it in the bottom left! Her pace caused Karori heaps of trouble that second half, Jerez was also quality. Karori never really created freely - reliant on set pieces attacks and WU keeper looked pretty confident most of the time.
One hand on the trophy for WU? Would have to drop points twice in the last 3 games (Seatoun H, Miramar A, PNU H). Never say never but...
Another Friday night at Newtown Park, another solid United victory: 4-0 over Seatoun this time, although Seatoun and their supporters were lively on and off the pitch which kept the game entertaining.

In fairness the WCL regulations allow them three players under 21 (rest have to be between 15 and 18), so I think that would’ve been Brazendale and Bangalan (and maybe Neary?). It’s more that they’ve had a strong group of U18s like Candy and Pugh move up to the Ressies this year, but it’s easy to forget they’re still a relatively young bunch.
As for the game itself, the 7-0 scoreline isn’t Marist’s worst result this season and their keeper pulled out some good saves. But man I wish we played on the northern (sunny) side of the Ricoh Centre sometimes, that was a real football southerly…

Just heard from a mate watching Nix v Petone at Fraser Park that the game was abandoned in the 86th minute after a Petone player suffered a knee injury bad enough to require an ambulance.
I don’t know any more details but fingers crossed she recovers quickly.

Yeah, based on Petone's posts it was Kyra Elder. Hope she recovers quickly. Petone certainly have had its fair share of serious injuries this year :(
Has anyone heard how PNU's players are doing after their loss to Karori? They suffered 2 concussions and a potentially serious knee injury apparently.
I'd also say, that turf didn't seem particularly safe for play when I was there a few weeks prior to the PNU Karori game...there are some covers in place where different posts can be fitted, but the turf on those coverings had worn away leaving just exposed wood in 4 places on each goal line. Plus the rugby posts that are attached to the football posts actually sit slightly in front of the crossbar, meaning a ball could be in play but hit the rugby posts. Seems like a terrible venue for a Central League game to be held.

Yeah I agree the dual goal system is not ok for CL, do rugby players even like playing on turf?

I too saw the qualification things. So weird. It simultaneously includes them (ie they are in the league, affect points/affect where teams finish up and are counted in total team numbers) but then aren’t included in finishing positions which in my opinion they should be. Or just have them not play for points at all? Seems a bit half way harry no?
So they are excluded from the positions? I can’t quite see what’s going on to be fair. Though I still think- what does it matter how many teams there are? Just count down and take the lowest

Simple typo or are they hedging their bets on AFC Ressies being ready to participate by March? I know the NZF announcement included them and even the U-17 squad they brought to NZCIS was pretty impressive, but has the club 100% committed to a Women’s Reserves team?
Been stated Auckland Reserves will join the women's National League from next year for while now. They aim to join the Women's A-League from next season and already have an academy running, so it's just another step on their way (and probably allows them to get started on building a squad early)
The make-up of the Womens National League feels regionally unbalanced, having 5 Auckland sides, 3 Wellington and 2 South Island. But from a quality perspective, I think probably the right move eh?
I feel for Petone who will clearly miss out on National League. Their squad might get picked apart by Wellington United and Karori...that or they might dominate the new Central League given PNU are probably their closest competitors (but haven't really got close to them in performance over the season, and in the two games between the teams).

Of course quality is a factor in the distribution. This mix has proved decent in the past (apart from Central being woeful and now losing a place). Whether the southern sides are better than their Fed ones who knows. Can’t see Petone being raided.
It was inconsistent with the image of the current table where only the top two Central Sides were highlighted so I suspect a sloppy cut and paste job with no proofing.

If they're good enough, they'll win the new Central League and earn promotion through the playoffs (not a lot of detail on how this works at present).
Remember leftover teams in Christchurch and Auckland will also get raided.
