Uslan vs Sydney tonight, kicks off at 10pm I think. With the big Blue A-League Finals game on Sunday, both Sydney & Victory have sent weaker sides away on ACL duty this week.

Sydney lose 1-0 and are out of the ACL with 1 game left to play.

Good result for us. Let's get Ufuk to Wellington as soon as possible to starting working towards next season...

Daegu win 4-0

With 1 game left to play, Victory are on course to put in the worst ever performance by an A-League team in the ACL. All that Honda money was well spent ...

Kawasaki win in a 4-0 drubbing.

Fitzgerald 90 mins for the winners and Tratt likewise for Sydney “B”.

Talay now free to join the Nix.

Victory lose Muscat's swansong 1-3 to Sanfrecce. Victory played a very strong team, so losing to a team that has been struggling in their own league is a shock.

Didn't see the game but stats show that Vic had 65% possession.

They have just been conceding too many goals of late. Nine in their last two games. Limp way to end there season. Just as well for them that Muscat is on his way out.

AFC won't let the Nix qualify for the ACL but are happy to include us in AFC club rankings...

Asian Clubs ranking As of 24 June 2019.[51]
Current Rank Country Team 1-Year Change
192 Wellington Phoenix FC 55
193 Chainat United F.C. 159
194

ATK

14
195 Machine Sazi F.C. 431
196 Army United F.C. 19

Shark....ranked 192 just above Roy Krishna's new club ATK of Kolkata, India.

Last season's Nix would probably have beaten many, many of the 191 sides ranked above them.

What are they taking into account to calculate the ranking? How did we drop 55 places?

OK The ranking I got from ATK's Wikipedia page (Roy Krishna's new club)

Checking the link, it's not an official AFC ranking but on a website called footblldatabase.com

https://footballdatabase.com/clubs-ranking/wellington-phoenix

Seems pretty random but poor recent seasons before the last one did us in.

Looks like Aussie has lost that ACL spot, Tony P tweeted last night that only this seasons Premiers gets automatic entry into the ACL & the GF winners will have to qualify.

[Edit: whoops, had that around the wrong way]

See Sydney come up against the Ange Postecoglou coached Yokohama F. Marinos. He took them from just missing a relegation play-off last season by goal difference to winning the J-League this year.

Victory vs Bali on the 21st January. Wonder when the ACL squad lists need to be in, they will want Marco on it. That could possibly be his first game.

Permalink Permalink

Looks like its too late for Marco to be named in squads for the qualifying games. So he can't play unless they make the Group Stages.

Sydney vs Shanghai SPIG moved from 12th Feb to 29th Apr

Victory vs Beijing moved from 3rd Mar to 26th May

Makes sense, especially with the Chinese league having stopped due to outbreak.

Trying to see if any of those help us

Glory game is two days after their last match of the season against CCM on the 26th and before the finals. Perth will really want to finish their regular season in top two for a bye week, otherwise, I'm sure they are at least hoping top four to get a home elimination-final.

Sydney last game is away to City on the 26th as well. Think can confidently say they are first and will have a bye

Victory are lucky, they actually all wrap up the regular season the week before everyone else with last game against Snakes on 18th. Then there game on 26th is even after the finals series. If I was Victory management, I'd be arranging some friendlies just in case they end up with no games for a month.

I'm an optimistic pessimist.
I'm positive things will go wrong.
