Meh, don't mind me - I'm just having a whinge. I just don't like that they're straight up calling it an "American-style tailgating event". It gives me the same cringe vibes that the insistence on the Black Knights branding does or that gold ring that Foley was wearing at the unveiling event and claiming the players would get when they won the title, blah.

I am not against activations and events and admittedly do think the Nix could do more of it.

'Boot Parties' were a thing for a long time at Eden Park, so Auckland does have their own tradition of them.

With the ALW side playing at Porirua Park, I reckon that is something the Fever could try (even if its just bringing along a BBQ for people to chuck some sausages onto).

Going to the pub, catching the train and joining the March less likely to involve any DUI…you can even save the $500 from parking and gas and invest it into food and drink.

And it’s a football tradition.

Not sure who in the Fever would be keen on being sober driver so others can party. Dosnt really match with 12 Pubs of Lockhead. Personally not a fan of them at sports events we have enough drink driving in NZ without encouraging it.

Found this on reddit, means they've sold roughly 20k which is good to hear. God knows what the entertainment will be with a statement like that, maybe Trump himself will come down as part of the endorsement agreement lmao

Ruskie Slava Meyn sets up a Christchurch A League club, and the above horrible image becomes closer to being real. Nix fans could coin it the 'Putin-Thrump' derby.

Though Meyn has said that his meat trade pockets ain't deep enough for such a venture.

They had the 'tailgate' thing set up last match. Its not for punters to drive to - there's things set up like goals, sponsor cars etc. Presume it'll largely be a first season thing - like the pre match entertainment from different ethnicities.

Sounds like a load of fun, and why not start a 'new tradition' for football in Auckland. So what if its done elsewhere in the world? If it attracts the punters and keeps crowds large for AFC's home games that's a win.

In all seriousness, the nix could do something similar on the concourse to the stadium. But I'd expect the stadium would not agree as it would reduce their chance to extort people once in the stadium.

"Extort"?? The Stadium Trust make Dick Turpin & Ned Kelly appear to be as Saintly as Mother Teresa. They are the biggest highway robbers around. $37 car parking included.

Oh dear. Speaking from experience you drink too much too early and you ruin your experience of some great games…water between drinks. Food at appropriate times. Being overseas it’s weird to see people drink without having plenty of food on hand. Eating ain’t cheating, it’s part of the recipe for a great night out…

A lesson well learned in Poland when drinking home made Vodka on a trip to a friends wedding. They do it way differently than us Kiwis and Aussies.

When I started drinking I drank vodka and some of the worst stuff because it was the cheapest. Gave up drinking vodka after a week and haven’t touched it since. Still get a bit nauseous at the smell.

Yeh, plenty of food with the mixed drinks and beer here, but then the old fellas get on a big glass of the strong stuff after dinner…! But the only places they’re going after that is toilet or bed so no danger there.

Not sure if they still do it at Eden Park but they used to have these fibreglass backs of old American cars (tailgates) set up with bars and bbqs. Was a corporate type of thing I think.

It is a struggle to get people to live sport generally over here so things like this add to the attraction. I was in an hotel right across from one of the carparks near NRG Stadium on an NFL game day and tailgaters were arriving at dawn getting set up for the day. Gee there were some impressive rigs onshow.

Apparently they beat East Coast Bays 5-0 in a friendly. Wonder when Dan Hall will give up on the Socceroos, and make himself eligible for Fiji.

Some comments posted about that game from someone on FB.

May x 4 goals (I said to him great hat-trick and he replied I scored 4 so I think this is right)
Champness x 1.

Knowles
Elliot Sakai Hall Galloway
Toomey Mckenley Gallegos Howieson Champness May

Two new CB's came on second half, Middleton? and another but not sure.

Knowles really didn't have much to do but looked assured.

We have two very capable back-up full backs in Elliot and Galloway.

I thought Mckenley was excellent, you can see why he's been on the bench for our first three games but has stiff competition in that area.

RE Dan Hall & Fiji, the last journos had heard was that Fijian Government won't issue him a passport in order to be eligible. Sounds like it is hard for the Fijian diaspora who grew up outside the islands to get passports.

Cheers. Off topic a bit but I wonder what has happened to PNG's David Browne? Still only 28. I remember he had similar type passport issues with the PNG Govt?

But everything online I find, shows he hasn't played for almost 2 years now, since the 2022 season with HJK in Finland.

Another of those unlucky OFC footballers never to get a chance in the ALM. Paladin on commentary last night, with a dig at the Nix for never signing Kaltak.

Auckland FC add two Waikato clubs to their Youth Development Pathway partnership.

The Nix have recruited a few youngsters from the Waikato the last few years . Dylan Gardiner and Luke Brooke-Smith, via Ricki Herbert's Academy spring to mind.

Auckland FC expands Youth Development Partnership with two new Clubs! Last week, we launched our Youth Development Pathway in collaboration with Northern Region Football and WAIBOP Federations, announcing 15 clubs as official Auckland FC Youth Development Clubs.

This partnership creates a clear pathway for young footballers to progress towards elite-level football. This week, we’re excited to welcome two more clubs to the programme! For more details on the pathway, visit our website today!

Some twenty odd years ago when visiting my elderly parents in Poland I was asked  by some neighbours to come to their party to babysit-and-interpret-for their English-only speaking  American work colleagues who for some reason were there (do not know / do not remember why).
After the third or so vodka shot they declined further drinks and said that "if they have four vodkas we would need to carry them back to their hotel".  The hosts said to me "tell them that those that will be doing the carrying will have drank way more than that".   Ah, the innocent days.

I saw some thing where they're going to be running "tailgate parties" before all their home games. Yeah, good to engage the general public and attract casuals or whatever but why do they insist on bringing in bollocks American sharke into football?

Happens at Twickenham too for English rugby and has been happening for years. Quite possibly longer then the yanks have been doing it for.

hi Guys - Just wanted to let you know there is a very basic version of a forum up, it's very unofficial but perhaps a place for some of the Auckland FC fans to chat without taking over threads in this forum.

Not wanting to compete with this forum, more to be complimentary - I have a lot of respect for those who run this forum.

https://aucklandfc.freeforums.net/  There is not much setup yet - it's still in it's creation stages and being free it has some limitations but worst case scenario it proves or disproves the need for a forum.

Good on you. Looks good. I joined it, not because I am an Auckland fan - I'm not, nor because I want to hassel Auckland fans. I joined it because I am interested in Message Boards and watching you starting this one is like watching a new child coming into the world so to speak. I really hope Auckland fans get in behind this and actively support the MB. Like the YF, it can only grow with fan participation. The word needs to get out there.

Fair enough call by Corica. They have looked really good down the flanks but the wide guys have often overplayed when a simple linking pass was the more obvious option.

So today might be Auckland’s biggest challenge yet (outside us)and for a while?

Sydney weren’t at their best and Auckland were at home.

They’ve got City, CC, Newcastle, us again and WU in Nov/Dec.
