Seems to be a lot of young guys in the port section, which is understandable when they want to have a party and drop some smoke. Cheaper tickets helps those guys.
Doesn’t appear too many old crusty Brits in there as initially thought.
Was it only me but didn’t a large number of them take of their shirts when AFC scored.
Shirts off with 10 mins to go, likely to be displayed if they are ahead with 10 mins to go in Wellington?
Most likely Old Crusty Brits were sitting at the pub watching old EPL reruns, saying "back in my day..." to each other.

You look at some of the flags displayed in The Port, and is definitely some ex pat Brits in amongst them, crusty or otherwise.
But also saw a guy in there yesterday waving a Colombian flag, plus other fans at the game with Uruguayan and Chilean flags. Presumably a Japanese expat lady getting a selfie with Sakai. They just need to tap into Auckland's large Belgian diaspora now
In their midfield their Belgium midfielder looks a great rock and buy
Think they need a little more creativity from their midfield and their other imports but one more game and then they have another couple of weeks off to work on that and cement things which for a new team will be crucial
Just interjecting here - the port are located away from the main stands on both sides on purpose. Those are family friendly environments and don’t deserve the colourful language that the fans use, which I think is a great respect shown from that lot. What a great game too, crowd went mental when we scored last minute. I would have taken a draw if you asked me before the game.
Really really looking forward to the first ever kiwi teams batting it out together in the A League. Something that definitely should be celebrated together rather than hating each other in my opinion
As to "family friendly", there were a *hell* of a lot of kids/families in the standing areas around The Port (inc. where T-AFC were), so they could definitely hear a lot of the naughty language. Not that I think it's a big issue.
And also to be fair to the port people, they put plenty of warning out on their socials that there would be bad language. It’s up to the people if they choose to sit there. But you’re right, not a big deal. If you come to the football, expect bad language. If you don’t like it then you’re in the wrong sport

Lots of Colombian flags (and Estonian...) plus plenty of Japanese faces in the crowd on the TV. If AFC brings out the international footballing crowd out in force in Auckland I am all for it, it may be a beginning of a new good thing.
I saw on Reddit the Tamaki facist flag and had to laugh. But yesterday two people from the group were holding up the letter ‘S’ as to make light of the misspelling of the flag. Turns out it looks like the left wing anti fascist activist group are proud supporters of the German SS! Had to laugh. That’s either an extremely unfortunate coincidence (poor group already getting enough stick), or it’s a very clever thought out pi$$ take

Max Mata carved up the Estonian league, so logical their expat community turn out in force in Penrose.
whats most weird is you think Champness would be a shoe in for at least experienced depth in the squad. I'm curious as to why no reporters have asked the question.nixin
Odd that Galloway and Champness aren't even making the bench, and Elliot hasn't had game time. No injuries, apparently.
Was thinking that the other day, that the Port seems to be a younger vibe which is great to see. Also seem to be more active on Socials than the YF. I guess with a new group they need to be. Be cool if YF up the game on the socials, maybe could get more younger members in. Also the port flags are on point imo AucklandPhoenix

Champness missed a lot of pre-season with an injury suffered in either Auckland's first or second pre-season friendly. As recently as matchweek one he was doing fitness work at training while others worked on tactical shape etc. Believe he is back training fully now, but with Liam Gillion and Logan Rogerson impressing, with Neyder Moreno about to push either Jesse Randall or Finn McKenlay off the bench, and with Champness not having played a competitive match since November 5 last year, it will probably take an injury (or a massive loss of form) for him to get a shot.

Think the youngest Fever have always had an A league team their whole life and perhaps also have been coming with their parents? Perhaps they’re a bit blasé cos they’ve always had a team? Maybe they even had Ifill posters on the wall growing up. The Phoenix are a generation old. It’s a different thing to ya Tik Tok Frankstein Auckland!
Whereas the Port is brand new and belongs to this generation. Making it up as they go along. Did think not many of these f- are over 30 as you celebrated that goal!
What was with that guy tweaking the PM’s nose? Did Ali Williams give them $30 if they tried it? Seems very much his humour if I remember anything from the 90s etc…but cringe and really funny? Eh…unless of course Nick Becker scripted it to get in the kids like the equally cringe pitch invasion…
See how they’re riding in 18 or 19 years!
Maybe the socials explain the over eagerness too. It’s always hand to hand combat in the comments. Once they’ve lost a few and had a few things go wrong and stayed up to watch games in Perth or Vic only to get smashed…Then they’ve got to find some perspective.
lol. I remember watching a late game at the Fox. Terry came in to watch with two women with him. We played baaaad and he left at halftime!
It’s cute all these suggestions from a club that’s two games old and backed by 3? 4? billionaires and pockets of millionaires.
It’s kind of like that talented kid on the team who hasn’t had the first big injury yet and had to watch as other players take his spot and do fine. No shortage of confidence.
I’m sure the Fever could do with a bit of baton changing at some point, but that already might be happening organically. The forum has been kinda quiet for about 10 years tbh! The elite and the cool kids are rarely here as much as some of us.
As well I know the youngest member on the podcast seems to pride themselves on their education and their eloquence (such a snob), so that’s a point of difference from what we’ve encountered with Auckland’s yuff so far!
What was that Black Hole Sun parody? Though that used to be mostly aimed at the North Shore…and that’s only 15 years old as a reference…

Steam Ship enthusiasts haha nice save. A joke that’s going around saying they’re the anti-facials crew because of the spelling which is also good banter. Man I can’t wait for Saturday, it’s going to be an awesome historic moment for NZ. Nevermind the result, I’m really looking forward to the trip down. Hopefully meet some of you from the forum there? Where do you all hangout? I promise I’ll wear something else over my afc jersey ✌️
Dam it wont let me edit it. Yep Featherston is where YF will be as will some who post on here. If you can take some banter no need to cover your jersey pretty sure someone will approach you for conversation/banter. Not so sure some of your other fans would be so happy with you mixing seems some dont want it.
Once they’ve lost a few and had a few things go wrong and stayed up to watch games in Perth or Vic only to get smashed…Then they’ve got to find some perspective.
That’s not happening any time soon; Perth were awful.

It’s not up to them how I want to enjoy my football! I love a bit of banter, that’s included in the football experience! They won’t mind if I do that, some will be keen to join me! I’m Jeremy Rutherford by the way :)

Pennington’s gunna give it to ya! Davy Williams guna give it to ya!
I dunno they got a few decent players and Zadkovich had them playing. Could just be a coach change or a moment of realisation away…It’s always tough going full intensity at 30 degrees at 1:30 in the morning…
97th minute winner deserves absolute limbs, all the clips I've seen from the crowd when it goes in look mild as hell
Nah, it was nuts especially down by the Port (who could actually see what was going on). Bit of a weird goal, so those far from the action didn’t know what had happened.
Huge improvement from the last game tbh, relative to the smaller attendance. It’s only going to get better as Port coordination increases and more people are sucked into devoted fandom.
The activity levels of the rest of the crowd, as with many Kiwi sporting events, are a massive WIP. There were many people who seemed clueless as to what had happened, so gave a polite clap without even cracking a smile
Yeah mate I certainly stand corrected, have seen a few more clips now from within the Port and it looked like it was bouncing. I guess your view gets clouded when you're only ever in the fever zone, I'm sure it's equally pretty damn quiet if you sit out around aisle 28 as it was in some of those videos from outside the Port area.
Good to see a lot of young people in there who genuinely get active support and footy culture. The league needs as much of it as we can get

I certainly noticed how young people were in the Port zone. Also it seems to have a real multicultural mix with Asians, Polynesians and South/Central Americans. So in many ways it represents the true Auckland. Not really surprised by the youngsters. Most of them would have grown up in football households . Both playing and watching on TV. The fact they are now tuning in to the A League is tremendous. I think the arrival of Auckland FC is going to transform football in Auckland. People will take ownership and identify with the club rather than just support clubs on the other side of the planet.

To be honest, a lot of the Fever who organise stuff are still around and doing it, but we are older, have jobs and kids now. We aren't as online much and we don't spend our whole day at the pub before kick off. We have less time to organise things. However we still are getting the banners done, we have our second march for this season planned this weekend and did that great one for the finals.
We aren't stand-offish, if people want to help or have ideas, we are more than happy for them to give it a go. I think sometimes we can be a bit blasé about things as they have tried and failed before but we won't ever stop someone from trying again (as long as it's not going to be reputation ruining).
There is some young blood coming through with the Foster Crew, but things will happen organically. There is no rush and we don't have any need to "compete" with anyone else, we've been doing it for 17 years already.

not going to do a reply because this thread is getting so long, but the Foster Cres Crew is a couple of lads who flat together in Foster Cres (Oh the irony) who are some of the main voices you would hear in the Fever these days. You'll find them in the fever at all men's and women's matches

On Sunday I spotted a dad and young kid in AFC shirts clearly heading to the match. The dad was talking about the players to the child and seemingly explaining who they were. My first thought was indeed "ew Auckland" but to be honest, I did think it was kind of cute and a good thing to witness.

Group of young guys who have brought some energy back into the zone and also got themselves involved in doing stuff. Easy to spot on TV as they are the guys that pass around the red hat. Will leave it to them to explain. Good dudes

Are you a part of that group? Doesn’t help that obvious mistakes from your fans are making mistakes haha seems very disorganised. Unless that ‘SS’ thing was on purpose, then it was quite funny. Either way people got a laugh out of it. Unfortunately one of those ways was laughing AT rather than WITH.
On Sunday I spotted a dad and young kid in AFC shirts clearly heading to the match. The dad was talking about the players to the child and seemingly explaining who they were. My first thought was indeed "ew Auckland" but to be honest, I did think it was kind of cute and a good thing to witness.
There were so many parents and their children in Auckland FC shirts. It was great to see. This included the Port section. Mothers with daughters, grandfathers with grandsons etc. I took my 4 year old son and he absolutely loved it, he even got to lead a chant.
Auckland has not seen support like the Port (and I am old enough to have been at the Kingz and Knights games), so I really hope this continues. NZ Football needs two pro teams, that have passionate support. My hope it that this support transfers to the International game. The atmosphere at both an All Whites or Football Ferns game is so dull.
