On The Port's Podcast, Nic Becker talks about the WSW game crowd incidents

This is not the Port's podcast. These guys aren't involved in organising the Port. Some of them don't even go to the games. That is like saying the black and yellow podcast is the Yellow Fevers. 

The Port did a social media story condemning the violence. 

Nix fans should not be throwing too many stones. It was only last year Nix fans jumped into the away section to fight Victory fans. My take is there should be no violence, at any game. I was surprised to hear a Nix fan was punched at the derby. That should have been reported earlier.

Bit of a stretch bringing up what was a very isolated incident from some idiots who couldnt be called fans at all in any way, as a comparison to what happened in Auckland.
The facts are YF and the Phoenix both tried to highlight concerns they had before the first Auckland Derby but Auckland chose to ignore them.
Then at the second one again issues were raised and some members of YF and Phoenix staff spent part of the first half trying to highlight issues. Apparently yet again Auckland and their security chose to ignore those concerns. 
Sadly all those concerns were proven to be correct and if Becker continues to bury his head in the sand im afraid come finals things may not improve.
Many of the things that YF fans experienced havnt been spoken of widely but  from those i have spoken to an away game experience in Auckland is one some will make a priority.
Bloody shame actually given the away game experience Nix fans get when travelling to other away games.

One thing I can agree with you on is red badge don't know what they are doing. Both Auckland derbies had fans from both sides, trying to sit in the active support of the opposition team. A really dumb thing to do. Red badge did not know what to do. This needs to be fixed.

So no one in the Port is a spokesperson or has a journalists number? There’s been no direct contact with the press or with the RBB?

I think the Fever has to have some credit for their fan culture established over the years. At least they should be getting listened to, not dismissed. We’ve had 7k consistent fans as a ‘core ceiling’ from a 400k base compared to whatever City Football group has and is achieving in Melbourne, to around 4K in tough times. 

That is the club’s CEO though saying things I can’t hear but are being summarized here. That’d be why that’s important. 

Anyway, understand you want to defend the club here, but your CEO is doing a relegation level effort currently. Families going don’t want to hear that it wasn’t our fault, they want to hear that it won’t happen again and it absolutely isn’t tolerated. 

Everything I heard from the club and Nick has been about it shouldn't happen again and it isn't tolerated.

Only one win in their last 5 games for AFC, not losing will keep them top of the table but wont be great preperation for the finals series. 4 points ahead of City, another draw for AFC sees them take the league, their last game is against Perth in Auckland so that shouldnt be too tough.
They'll be tough in the finals, and will no doubt get the first week off, it'll be down to how well they can prepare for whoever comes their way.

3 trainings a week at age 9. Little glimpse into why Japan is so successful in womens football, especially at age group level.

Though yeah must be a big early burnout of kids at a young age, like your nephew.

Remembering reading a really interesting article on I think Friends of Football, penned by a respected shools coach. A guy who coaches at one of the big secondary schools on the North Shore. A Kiwi he'd started out coaching in the UK, including age group stuff at some of the bigger clubs there from memory.

In his view NZ had it about right, in mainly focussing on the enjoyment factor until an older age compared to the likes of Japan & the UK. He also thouight it was fine for kids to play both school & club football. Declan and Arsene Wegner may disagree, but I remember it was an interesting point of view & read.

I’ve got a niece who’s just upped her involvement in football to 3 trainings a week, with the goal to be potentially a professional player! She’s 9. Currently in Japan.

Though the nephew I had who was also all-in on his football gave the game away at junior high school age. A lot of competition and priorities change. Getting into high school requires a lot of stressful effort. 

Don’t there’s a chance of wangling them Kiwi passports tho.

why would you want a petting zoo when the real zoo is right round the corner

Not bad but I think they need to make it possible to hold test cricket games there too
