When AFC click they will win anything, they are miles ahead of any team IMO.
I'd say different. A lot of people wrote AFC off for this week, but I knew that their away form has been better than their home form this season (only just scraped home over Citeh). So I'd actually be tempted to put money on Sydney in that scenario lol.

Aussies on Reddit absolutely spewing at AFC rough play. And fair enough, Verstraete's rugby tackle was hilarious; but the refs let that sharkhousery go against Auckland as well (Pijnaker was rugby-tackled for Citeh's goal). But anyway the Aussies now hate AFC as much as this forum do.
dilemma, does that now mean if we don't make the playoffs we want Auckland FC to win to annoy the Australians or nah screw AFC?

Not having seen any of the match, what was unusual about it? 🤔
First challenge of the match! Usually they let the first ten minutes or so go without any cards.
Aha.

Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's living in Agadez, Niger.  Spending more time in town, Agadez, as bad people in the desert are spoiling the good life.

Pretty difficult to get a yellow for "persistent infringement" in the first 10 minutes, whereas "commits an offence that interferes with or stops a promising attack  " can occur anytime.

I have a hierarchy of clubs I don't like, the top 4 all play in blue. NUJ from here on in.

How good would it be sticking it up the Australians two times in two weeks with the  ladies winning today and AFC next week, with a home grand final of 26k

Someone commented that Adelaide played poorly last night. I disagree.  Their interplay especially in the first twenty minutes was excellent and they were a constant threat.  Even if they could not sustain that past 20 minutes, had they piled in two goals in that time it might have been impossible for Auckland to recover.    For that reason, I think the game was won for Adelaide by the five men defense, since Adelaide could not get a proper shot on goal during the whole first half.   I thought they would prevail late in the game with the fresh-legged subs, but the defence held.  Agreed that Pijnaker was a bit lucky, but he probably benefitted from the ref developing "Buyer's Remorse" after carding Sakai in the first three minutes for his first tackle of the game.
Kudos to all players, even to Cosgrove still able to pull off his theatrics despite missing some important ligaments.  And the last goal from a superb cross was sublime, remind me of similar Roy Krishna goals for us in they years past.   Also, the game was one more reminder what an excellent player Elliot has developed into - he hardly put a foot wrong last night.
My top marks go to Girdwood-Reich, he of the Premature Celebration Syndrome from last weekend.   Stunning headed goal, and a solid defensive work.
Adelaide was not poor: they simply were outplayed by Auckland defence, and did not stop Auckland at the other end (Brook also struck a goalpost in the first half).

Agree, I mean during a 10 minute period, Adelaide had 95 per cent possession. Haven’t seen that kind of dominance for a long time. All the defenders were immense. It looks like Dan Hall may be moving on next year and based upon last night, I really hope a club from a top league signs him. Amazing defender.

Elliot or Randall (deliverer of cross) excellent player developed into?
Great long pass from Pijnaker to Randall. That's why Nando is in the AWs WC squad, because he can play balls like that.

Shame about the women, if AFC gets up next week it'll be 2 trophies in 2 years, which is something to be worried about for us nix fans

With the state of airfares right now, Jets away was starting to look like a $2-3k round trip for me and the wife, which I really didn't want to spend  getting to Newcastle of all places...

So that was a very nervy shootout for me 😂

Doubt it would happen, but if the OFC Pro League wants a decent attendance for their final, surely they could work with the APL and do a double header at Eden Park or something.

That's a great idea so of course it won't happen. Too many egos to butter over.

I didn't realise there was a prospect it'd be at Eden Park... argghhhh

We'll see how they go next season without the advantages of being a new club. Suspect it won't quite be a fall off given they're stupidly rich compared to everyone except city, but sooner or later they'll have a shit season. Hoping for sooner.

Will feel dirty being a Sydney fan for the final, but it's a necessary evil.
Annual finals disappointment enthusiast.

AFC have shown zero interest in taking games to Eden Park. Told the APL as much last season when their was talk of taking the VUC home semi leg to EP

The ALM Grand Final is scheduled for next Saturday. So would need OFC to bring their final forward by a day to become a Mt Smart curtain raiser.

No Warriors or Blues games in Auckland so that helps with scheduling.

Mt Smart to host a final for AFC, in where the NZ team has a better shot at winning pre-game.

I wonder if the NZ media will put as much effort as they would for AFC as they did for the women's Phoenix team last week...

Another historic moment for football in NZ created by the club thats been around for 20 years... oh wait.

The result was as good as it gets last night,

Looking at the positives, a Home grand final against a team that had to go 120 minutes the week before and hasn’t yet beaten AFC in six games.
.
But years of following the Nix have toughened and taught me it’s the hope that will kill you and the worst will happen.

Nah AFC will win it, no reason to think they can... I take it that years of following the nix will make you allergic to trophies.

Just trying to figure out logistics of getting to Mt Smart as accommodation wasn't booked with that in mind. Been 8 or so years since I last went there,  is there a parking option anywhere near or would it still have to be train from Britomart or wherever else is most convenient to get to? Staying out west this time.

I had the opposite problem during the shootout.  I booked flights to SYD for next weekend at the beginning of the year.  Now to find dates to change them too or suck up the cancellation fee.

Really easy to park in the surrounding streets - Neilson Street is a good shout if you're coming/going West so long as you're comfortable with a 20ish minute walk.

Thanks.  Auckland Transport website was saying 3 buses then a 16 minute walk from where we're staying so would be easiest if we can just drive and cut out the multiple public transport changes.

Most Warriors and Auckland FC  regular attendees have a secret parking spot within 15 mintues walk to Mt Smart that they swear by and keep secret.

Not at all no concern at all for many Phoenix fans. We will support as we have done for 19 years.
Lets see what happebs in the next couple of years when the advantage is taken away. Lets see if your still crowing and the support is at the same level.
Methinks not.

It’s nuts.

Auckland transport ought to be able to put on special train or bus services.

And it’s at the weekend. Have it at a time that’s going to be good for football. 6:30, latest. If it’s wet and cold, goes to extra time, and there’s 3 thousand people looking for a spot on a bus for 30, that’s ludicrous for a plywood has a rail connection.

What do they doing it’s in Perth? Make them play at the heat of midday or something so it can screen in Sydney?

6.30pm NZT is 4.30pm East Coast Australia, a bad KO time for the biggest A League viewing audience.

Like it or not it is primarily an Australian comp.

I don't know how to feel about this GF

On one hand, as a Nix fan, Auckland winning the toilet seat would be an absolute horror

On the other hand, cheering for Sydney to win feels wrong on all levels

The time difference between Perth and Sydney isn't as drastic as you think it might be. There's only a 2hr difference between the two and for context the 2019 Grand Final in Perth was 6:45PM local time.

the wahs kick off at 8pm when they play on a friday at Mt Smart and nobody cares.

Get over the start time, as someone said it's an Australian comp, we are lucky to have two teams in there for starters.

It looks like half the stadium has been sold before the tickets open to non members and the general public in two hours.

This will be sold out today.

The two away bays have also been sold out. The biggest Australian away party since Western Sydney came to town and got on the lash.  Hope security is tight this time.

The old should have been played at Eden Park line will quickly come out.

slight misstep from some of Auckland FC staff today - a few un-named members of the coaching/recruitment team shared the members code online and asked clubs to share it when it should have just been kept for Auckland FC members, has caused a bit of angst as some have missed out on port tickets etc.  Generally Auckland FC have nailed these type of things but this has been a bit of a hiccup.
