I don't know if it's the league, the club, or Ticketmaster limitations. But members not having first rights to their exact seats is rubbish. Wasn't the case last year, so I think it's something to do with Ticketmaster changes.

Unfortunately it sounds like a lot of first timers have probably bought Port tickets for them and their mates, at the expense of some who have been there all season. Hopefully it doesn't impact the atmosphere.

With that said, everyone I know who was on before 9.30am had no problems.

Hoping to get something in the 4pm general sale if there's anything left. Appreciate I'm a neutral who just happens to be in Auckland this weekend by coincidence though. I'd love to go to the occasion but can't really complain if I miss out

Anyone know if any pubs in Christchurch will have this on their tvs? My locals got the Wahs on and don't get me wrong, I love the Warriors but think watching a GF with an NZ team takes precedence here. Thanks in advance 👍

There is a bunch of tickets reserved for the 4pm general public sale - but there will be pretty fierce demand for them so jump in soon if you can and get on queue.

Flying up from Christchurch and managed to somehow snag a ticket in the South Stand. Weren't that many for general sale, and they were selling quite fast.

Got something in Upper East. Little more than I wanted to spend and took a few goes as seats I chose were gone by the time I could click to go to the next stage but got something. Little more than I hoped to spend but wanted to try and get covered seats (easier sell to my wife). Gate C apparently - what's the best side street to target for parking closest to there?

If you can get the train Gate C is the closest one to the train - that's your best bet.

If you have to drive there will be people selling carparks on O'Rorke road.

It's an old map so ignore all the closed bits etc.

Wonder if they'll add some temp seating in. Think they've already opened up the top of the south stand at least which is never usually open.

Lot of grumbling about people missing out and how it should be moved to Eden Park. Auckland averaged 13,000 during the regular season. They've gone close to selling double that in no time at all today, and they'll surpass that if they add more seats. So there must be a lot of casuals going or else there are plenty of members any given week who don't bother showing up.

I think it's right to keep it at their home ground personally.

Honestly think they would have sold out Eden Park for a final.

But it is understandable they need the real home ground advantage.

Even though AFC have been diabolical at home this year and are better away.

Eden Park can wait for Spurs.

The lack of atmosphere at EP for football games seems more levelled at AWs matches, the awful game in 2022 verus Socceroos the nadir.

Nix games at EP seemed to have good vibe. People still talk about that big match (crowd about 22,000?) when Rudan's team took on the VUC. Libby announcing himself as a real talent.

Difference between having a known active support (Yellow Fever) chanting for 90 mins, as opposed to more a casual fan rugby fan type walk up crowd?

Adelaide and Perth are similar sized cities to the 09. In 2016 AU took their GF to the Adelaide Oval (crowd 50,000) and the Glory in 2019 took their GF to Perth Stadium (crowd 56,000). Both sell outs and both of those are ovals.

On the other hand of course the cash strapped APL allowed the Mariners to host their 2024 GF in Gosford (21,000).

So the game sold out within mins. About 29,000 with temp seating.

I don't think it's unreasonable to say 40,000 plus tickets could have beenn presold if it was at EP. Maybe even a sell out.
First time in NZ, novelty factor a bit like the Womens World Cup in 2023.

Plus you could also have got a bit of a walk up crowd in NZ's best traditions. Long range forecast looks okay.

Be interesting see what crowd is bigger. ALM GF or the Super Rugy Pacific final which presumably will be in NZ.

A full house is on the way for Saturday’s A League men’s grand final between Auckland FC and Sydney FC, after tickets to the game at Auckland’s Go Media Mt Smart Stadium sold out in minutes after going on sale to the general public.

A members-only presale from 9am on Monday saw more than 10,000 tickets sold. The general sale from 4pm saw the remainder of snatched up in minutes.

Many commenters on social media were disappointed to miss out, with some calling for the game to be moved to Eden Park, due to high demand.

Eden would have sold out easily. Again if they did do Eden Park. More records for AFC.

Not sure I buy too much into the EP would be a terrible atmosphere for football argument etc. AUFC and Glory had some of the better GF atmosphere's in arguably worse stadiums than EP in Adelaide Oval and Optus.

Honestly I say move it to Eden. Tickets sold like hotcakes and there's many who couldn't get some in time. Even if it's not a sell out, who knows how long it'll be before NZ will get to host another GF or if the hype will still be there when it does happen again? Make the most of this opportunity and make a spectacle. And frankly I think 50k is achievable but that's a whole other debate right now.

As for people who have already purchased seating, give them the choice to either refund their ticket or pick a free seat at Eden. Maybe it's too short notice but that's just my 2 cent.

Robbie's in Riccarton usually has Phoenix games on so likely to show it. They are good on the phone and can advise if you give them a call.
Avonhead Tavern is also highly likely has a lot of different screens and tables, and is easy for parking.
Last but not least, it will be replayed with a delay at 10pm on Sky Open (what used to be Prime TV). Likely to have commercial breaks.

The tickets sold out in 6 minutes upon being released to the general public with no real hype or marketing. If Adelaide can get 50k to see a final no reason why Auckland can’t - hell they sold 26000 shirts in their first year only and not every one attending will wear the kit.

Alas we will never know. If however they win, then the Spurs game will reach that level.

Even if it’s to watch their kids.

That's really shit if the presale code got shared (I didn't see it and got mine in the general sale) and members ended up missing out. That's a fuck up and there needs to be some sort of complaint and if extra seats are added they need to be exclusive to any members who missed out first. Should have been a unique link for each person or your membership number as the password or something, not just some code anyone could use if they got hold of it.

Exactly, the past week and a half really has shown quite the smugness of our fanbase. Articles left right and centre on the Wahinix, yet nothing in comparison for the AFC men (who have a better chance of winning the GF compared to the women), pissed off that the GF sold out so quickly and comparing EP seats to it.

This actually works if we had actually won something in our history but it comes off as bitter and sad.

That post about the AFC invitational team aged well didn't it?

Our fanbase do have to remember that if it wasn't for the fact that Auckland originally had an A-League team, we wouldn't exist and for all the hate Bill Foley got, the original Nix owner was probably worse.

Yeah just looks a bit too hard from where we're staying which was booked with another event in mind and not getting to Mt Smart. Staying a bit far out with no train option and the bus option looks to be 3 different buses plus a decent walk at both ends, and doesn't look like each leg runs late enough after. Got a rental car so thinking we'll just go early and see if we can park somewhere around 6pm, and if we end up a bit far away for a walk just get an Uber from there to as close as we can.

AP loan, higher salary cap for the first two years - both very big advantages that noone else got this season. Other new clubs received the salary cap one when the joined - although I'm not sure the Nix did all those years ago - different times I guess.

The AP loan was massive, AFC scored the leagues best keeper via a loan back scheme which no one else could utilise, becuase it was against the rules. APL only approved it as AP was basically already in Auckland and had the big billionaire money sat beside him.

The salary cap moaning needs to stop. The exemption is based on the fact that the salary cap structure at the time had concessions for loyal and homegrown players. This is has been phased out this season, but the reality is not giving an expansion team something to make up for those concessions would literally be a disadvantage.

And I still believe the Phoenix happily went along with the Paulson loan, kicking up a half hearted fuss for fan service, because Phoenix wanted the money.

Yeah the loan is a bit sus, the nix did not because they were moved from AKL to WLG.

All the recent clubs got cap help. For the nix to move forwards, they need to stop comparing/playing the victim to Auckland (because from an AFC pov, we had 15 years without them to win something and didn't) and do what they can do best on and off the field (sponsors, signings, stadia etc.).

DD should also go if the women do not push on too.

A quick Facebook read, and it appears that a lot of Auckland FC fans have genuinely missed out. The sort of fans who have been to many games, but yeah not all, and who ain't members.

Go Media Stadium selling out so fast is sure to leave some fans wondering if the final should have been played at Eden Park, which holds around 15,000 more fans if both venues are at full capacity.

Speaking to Stuff on Sunday, before tickets went on sale, Auckland chief executive Nick Becker said they had wanted to play their first grand final at their usual home venue - just as they had been intending to last year when they won the Premiers’ Plate, but were eliminated in the semifinals.

“For this year it's certainly always been intended to be at Go Media. I think that's the right decision too. In future years I'm sure we'd love to look at taking big games to Eden Park and selling out 45,000. For me, right now, I think we should be playing at Go Media. We should sell that out. We play there all season and we want that to be our home, our fortress. But in years to come, I think Eden Park would be an option.”

it wouldn't be that hard to implement a single click link for members rather than a code to prevent this type of thing.

Also given that AFC is the first NZ team to host a GF, doesn't suprise me about the demand.
