Auckland Pride - Make Auckland Great Again

Tuiloma is not good enough for the All Whites as a CB so I couldn't care less where he played. So if he as a well known All White helped provide buzz for Auckland, great. I think he'd do fine at A-League level despite never really being a nailed on starter in MLS. His defensive frailties won't be so harshly punished and his attacking weapons would come in handy.

Singh may prove to be a Rojas type player, too good for the A-League but never quite able to crack it at a decent European level for whatever reason. If that's the case, we don't necessarily want to see him waste away his career in Europe barely playing like Rojas did. Too soon for him to give up on Europe right now and go back to the A-League but if he hasn't started playing regular minutes in 2. Bundesliga come the end of next season then he should consider it for Auckland season 2

Just is in the Danish 2nd div, playing in the A-League would not be a step down. A move to Auckland right now might be just the thing that players like Just, Pijnaker & Grieve need because they're hardly setting the world on fire.

The A-League seems to be a feeder for the Scottish league now. So have a good season and boom you could be at a top 6 club there.

The SP is hardly world leading though. The Nix current form would see us challenging for silverware.  Players leave there to go to England's lower leagues as a general rule.
SP has massive variation in it, there are some dire games with some teams looking worse than pub teams but Celtic are usually championship quality.

yes Chelsea are looking more Championship quality than Premier League this season but I think you were trying to say Celtic

You'd think any announcement would have to be pretty soon. March is upon us and it's gone awfully quiet....

I'm not too fussed about the team announcment mind you, it's more the prospect of having an 11 team competition with bye rounds that would get right up my nose. 🤮

except they're going to have far, far more Kiwis than any other side. I myself am hugely invested in the fortunes of NZ football generally, so I'm going to be much more interested in them. Who are you and the people saying things like this, Wellington-only, Scouse-not-English equivalents, who only want to see the Nix win and don't give a shark about the All Whites?

Sure, but they will have their own forum. Yellow Fever is the supporters club of the Wellington Phoenix. The Auckland side will have their own fan club like all a-league teams, and people can and will be members of both. There's still the Kiwi's overseas section of this forum, maybe if you want  a place here to talk about NZ players who play for Auckland you can suggest a name change for that section? Kiwis outside of the Nix, for instance.

It's crazy to me that people want to morph Yellow Fever into a fan group for both NZ sides when the most exciting thing (and the thing that will grow the game) will be the rivalry.

The interesting conundrum will be does this forum still revert to white noise in world cup years?

It is one thing to not have this website expand to do for Auckland FC what it does for the Nix, it is another thing entirely to pretend and to say that you won't be any more interested in Auckland FC than you are about Macarthur. Get a grip

IMO I love how when the AWs play in Wellington we step up as white noise. Should continue to support the All Whites when we can and I’m sure a few will go and join the Lost Kiwis in 2026 WC.

Speaking of the 2026 WC, we does everyone want our group ‘hub’ to be? Kind of sucks we are playing in American summer so will be pretty hot in most cities.
Fifa said the groups will play in certain locations before splitting off to group stages, so hopefully we get a solid tourist destination as our hub, just my preference as I’ll be going.. would love it to be Mexico City.

Auckland need to come up with their own fan web site. If they want to copy the Fever model that is one thing, but to latch on to the YF would not be good at all. It will primarily be about rivalry. Yes, it is nice to see a second NZ based CLUB side in the A League.

Do Sydney City & Western City Wanderers share a web site? Nope. But they are "local" rivals. I want to see some fresh and different from Auckland. And to be honest, if their fans do not do something it is a true reflection of how they feel about having a 3rd go at professional football. I hope it succeeds but it will be what the fans in Auckland make of it.

I'm genuinely stunned how many Wellington-based die-hards have immediately latched onto the forced rivalry (leaning into spite) rather than be happy there are now two massive local professional pathways for New Zealand footballers. So 'us vs. them', and I just don't understand it

Off topic but the 2026 World Cup Schedule is out.
16 different venues. 2 cities Canada, 11 cities USA & 3 cities Mexico.
12 Groups of 4 teams.

If you don't like heat, cross your fingers the AWs play somewhere like Vancouver, Seattle, or San Fran.

Only read Ballane as being a bit spiteful. His view that if you have been a Nix fan up to now, you can't jump ship or even support both teams is nonsensical. A huge number of Nix fans are not from Wellington, me included. Many live north of the Bombays. For 17 years they have had no other NZ team to support. But they love NZ & they love football, so the Nix it is. Any parallels to how fans choose their favourite team in the UK are pointless, because they have had 94 EFL club teams in four divisions or whatever for over 100 years. It's a dumb comparison.

Like me some will be a NZ football fan first, and a Nix fan 2nd. So of course we will support the Auckland team as well. Their entry will only be massive plus for the NZ football scene. Some will even now choose them over the Nix, especially if they live in the north of NZ. As others have said it will just become a gut feel thing. Fair enough.

I think most Nix fans (certainly on here) are welcoming at last of a real NZ rival. A proper, non manufactured derby, with travelling fans. I'm sure the banter at the derbies will be 99% good natured, but some pantomine villians like Danny Hay or the first player to switch clubs won't hurt.

Still if you go onto the AKL Football 24 FC Facebook page (their early supporters group) there are few there, less than complimentary of the Phoenix as a club. They have their own Ballane(s). So it's a two way thing.

AKL kind of setting itself up as Blingtacticos v. the hard grafters of the Nix.

Guess they like to flatter themselves as Auckland Sydney London Paris Milan. Except it’s Auckland Las Vegas Lorient Bournemouth Edinburgh. But still much better than anything that’s come before there.

Let’s be honest there are plenty of Aucklanders who’ve had several trips overseas before they ever visit Christchurch or elsewhere in the country. It’s a stereotype, but for a reason!

I hope they get together a similar group to our old YF Elite. The current muppets on one of the FB pages are more interested in choosing idiotic team and supporter group names than sorting out a decent supporter platform like this one. That may all change when they announce a name/colours etc.

YF is pretty special all round and is a good yardstick for Auckland to go by.

While we as YF are very english in the way we go about things, I suspect AKL's active could very well be taken over by teenagers and have a european style, which is both good and bad. (youth engagement, older folks likely won't like it)

--side note this is why I love how Perth have had it recently, the old fellas in the shed and the younger ones at the bottom, sometimes with different chants but the main ones in unison..)

I remember when I went to Sydney for unite round and got talking to a sydney fc fan next to me. Said that he used to go in the cove, but recently it had been swarmed by 15/16 year olds and wasn't at all a friendly environment for him being in his late 20s..
I didn't even realise before but I was relatively shocked when I saw The Cove cove into the ground and them all being 15/16 year olds.. then I found out how its changed..

I was just watching that ep of Bluey (mum of a toddler here lol) where they're watching State of Origin, where everyone is barracking for QLD except for the neighbour's mum who supports NSW. And the rivalry is real and intense and the kids' loyalties are torn. And then at the end everyone gets together to support the Australian team (except for the local Kiwis, lol again).

I assume that's what it'll be like with the Nix, Foley's Folly, and the All Whites.

"Forced" rivalry?

1) Wellington (and the rest of the country) hate Auckland, always have. Part of the pride of getting the Nix set up in the first place was Wellington having something that was "taken away" from AKL, hence the chants mocking the Kingz/Knights.

2) Foley's cashed-up club could put the Nix at a serious disadvantage, in attracting AWs and ex-Nix players (Rojas, Singh) and even current Nix players (Kosta). We started a rivalry with the Snakes because they took Dura and Kurto. Even worse if our neighbours with whom we have an ancestry civic rivalry do the same thing.

Speaking for myself: I was actually considering being an active member of both clubs. But if AKL is buying out the Nix's best players, I won't be able to stomach that.

I think having an auckland club will actually be good for us.

Potentially more national interest in the league.

Bigger crowds when we have derbies.

For me it just makes it more exciting. It will also help the all whites with more players playing a good level.

it will be a great rivalry!

Such a strange post, especially the last paragraph.

Worked for BNZ once for about 6 months down at Quay Park, there by Spark Arena. A small business call centre, where you could take a phone call from anywhere in the country. Admittedly alot of the staff not born in NZ, and average age probably less than 30. But still amazing how many had barely travelled south of the Bombays. I remember Timaru came up in a meeting and about 10 of the 30 odd staff not knowing where it was!! They obviously never watched the round the nation weather on TV news. It was cringeworthy embarrassing that these same people could take a phone call from a business owner in Westport, and then just not relate to them at all.

But then I also remember being in the UK in the late 1990s in me twenties, and being around heaps of Cantabs who had only stepped in the North Island for the first time at Auckland Airport enroute to London. So yeah a two way thing, which breeds alot of that anti Aucks sentiment. The unknown.

Sorry as much as you may not like it there are some of us who couldnt care less about what Auckland does as im sure there will be some Auckland fans who dont care about the Nix.
Pretty laughable actually you expect Nix fans to take an interest in an Auckland team. Can just see it know Piney getting sharkty because a United fan wont support Liverpool.
If you want me to have a 2nd team i choose Newcastle as my wife is from there and i have family and friends living there.

Auckland no way never ever ever especially if they get to a final.
Forgive me but isnt that what rivalry is about not this namby pamby lets support everyone bullshark.

Care to point to the post were i said if you supported the Nix you cant jump to an Auckland team. So what im a Proud Wellingtonian and make no apology for it who wont support an Auckland A league team and its that i have voiced not your made up statements that were NEVER made by me.
I follow the Wellington Rugby team but not Auckland
I follow the Wellington Cricket team but not Auckland
I follow  the Breakers and the Warriors if Wellington were ever to get a team in those competitions i would then follow those teams. See the pattern.
