Maybe that problem will be solved by the new Oz Under-23 winger they've just signed from the UK. Says Corica: "He's got a lot of pace."

You mean the kid that got red carded in his first match?

Not sure how you could get the two confused.

it's pretty easy when I only pay AFC limited attention, more when they are losing.

Don’t think this is any kind of answer to future success. They haven’t properly tried to use the talent on the bench. Subs usually use far too late in the game (apart from the panic response against Perth). Corica quoted as wanting to use the same successful XI starting every time. Not entirely successful so far.
Little attempt  to try new combinations or be creative in driving the attack. Yes, they need a proper striker but they also need to get in behind the defence - not all goals need to be either screamers or from distance.

Yeah tough run of games coming up for the Estonians, possibly bar us if we're being honest. City away next, Adelaide twice, plus away to Wanderers and the Bitumens. Away for looks average, but then again they've only played in Australia 4 times out of the 11 matches they've played (must be nice).

WSW might not seem on paper a tough match, but they score a lot of goals and Auckland certainly do not. If they go behind first that game will be tough for them.

Would be very interesting if some sport interviewer like Devlin could get the CEO on the line and dig a bit into the business side of the organisation which must be humming, merch sales which must now after Xmas be off the roof, break even required on crowds etc etc etc.

Costs involved next year with the woman’s team etc etc

Auckland will rise once more

https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/360549877/auckland-fc-rocked-defensive-injuries-ahead-crucial-league-men-stretch

Their second defeat came away to 12th-placed Perth Glory last Saturday, in a match where captain Hiroki Sakai was forced off after being knocked out by a ball to the face, and where teenager defender Adama Coulibaly was sent off less than 10 minutes after coming off the bench to make his debut.

First-choice centre back Dan Hall has been out injured with a broken ankle since the start of Auckland's slide in results, while versatile fullback Scott Galloway has also joined the injured list, with a calf problem that Corica said would keep him out for three to four weeks.

Uncapped teenager Codey Phoenix – a New Zealand age-group international – is set to provide cover off the bench, with Corica acknowledging this as not where his team wanted to be ahead of such a crucial stretch of matches – the third coming away to eighth-placed Western Sydney Wanderers next Sunday.

Auckland are set to
have midfielder Cam Howieson back from injury this weekend, while new signing Marlee François is expected to play some part in their two matches in Australia next week.

It was comical to see the footage of the crowd waving the French, the Colombian and the Estonian flags, and each of them was there for a commendable but unrelated reason.

The Colombian one is obvious. No idea about the French one though. Don't believe there is any French connection in the club on or off the pitch.

It's a French supporters group, very cool to see things of that ilk popping up! If it's ever shown closely on TV, you'll see the group's insignia on the flag

They also had a banner, "French supporters of Auckland FC" or something like that, I thought that was quite cute in its own way.

I will never get over people shrieking about how dare T-AFC bring politics to football, and then at the very first game there's a Palestinian flag flying in The Port

The Herald understands some Wellington Phoenix players, too, have reached out to the new club about a possible move north.

“I’d probably be wrong to say yes on that question, but let’s just say there’s been a lot of interest from a lot of players,” McFlynn responded when asked about Phoenix players.

I'm not particularly stoked about that part of the article, but also not surprised I guess

Yup, one way to guarantee piss-poor crowds and mockery from chuds about empty stadia.

I wonder what the broadcast requirements are for the ALW. Whilst it hosts NZ Championship games on TV, it might not meet what the ALW requires.

Kiwitea was my first thought but honestly it's a bit ramshackle and hard to get to. I wonder whether they could do something with the grass pitch at Seddon Fields that was created for the WWC, they'd need to build stands though (might work very well if Foley is still looking to take over the Western Springs stadium)

What about Auckland United's ground at Keith Hay Park?

Chuck a few stands on the opposite side to the club rooms? Could even just be scaffolding stands
