Maybe Iffil as someone who works on A-League broadcasts has been instructed by Sky or the APL that he is not to state explicitly that he supports a particular side, even if everyone knows that he is obviously going to be partial to his former team? That's the most charitable spin on it I can make.

Or maybe he is still mad that the Nix withdrew the contract offer for Callan when he was angling for a negligible buyout clause (I believe Iffil was advising him at the time).
Goran, freed from the shackles of Sky, has come out, even as an Akler, as a Nix fan.

Craig Gordon, the Scottish keeper who played their last 2 WC qualifiers (v Greece, v Denmark) is 42. He's the Hearts reserve keeper, yet to play a game in the league this season. Just thought I'd throw that in....

He is a train smash waiting to happen and has been very lucky thus far.

With his decision making he doesn’t act upon impulse and is seconds too slow as he contemplates things

Didn’t think I would say this but at the moment the Nix have the better starting keeper.

Them's strong words.  Oluwayemi is still work in progress, and I do not expect him to shine as brightly for another season at least. Not as intuitive at sweeping as Paulsen, but a decent shot stopper.  Makes different mistakes than Woud (is better at decision-making, but less confident in the box than Would), but is overall more reliable already than last season.

I used to quite like the unused subs but so much of it feels AFC centric now - it's literally recorded in a bar with the promotional tagline "the home of Auckland FC". I know someone said Goran is a nix fan but it certainly doesn't feel like it at times.

It just reflects how quickly pretty much all forms of NZ media have jumped behind AFC which is pretty aggravating given for years we hardly got any coverage. I understand why, given most media is based in Auckland, and they're the new flashy, and more importantly, winning club. That's why it feels so disheartening when Iffy, who is a bonafide club legend won't even say he's a fan on air.
Annual finals disappointment enthusiast.

I personally don't think the Unused Subs is inappropriately biased towards or centred around AFC myself, but yes, the fact that they are winners based in Auckland while we are losers based in Wellington is going to make them the media darlings and we just have to suck it up. The easiest thing we can do to get in the media's good graces is also win something but that's never happened and is hard to ever see happening at this point.

it has become an obvious thing to say, but it's worth saying anyway, that the quality of football on display in this game (afc v brisbane) is light years ahead of anything the phoenix have produced.

brisbane getting better every week. set up to be proactive. happy to go long and they generally have 5 u when they attack.

He’s their munter.

Brisbane trying to get to him.

This is a game though. Impressive to see Elliot and McGarry right in the teeth of it.

I know Cosgrove is the pantomime villain but especially today he gets just as much as he gives.

Compare him to a player like Brisbane's striker Vidic, who spent the entire game with Pijnaker's shirt in his hand, pushing him in the back, etc.

Vidic just doesn't come across as bad because when Nando inevitably does it back Vidic falls over like a sack of potatoes.

Cosgrove is less the shirt pulling and more elbow throwing nobend though! Everytme he gets close to a defender his elbows come up and he's nudgfng the defender in the back or head.
Cosgrove = a total idiotic thug.
Vidic = dirty shirt pulling Twit.

So Cosgrove a lot like Rory Falloon then. Using the elbows must be a thing they teach in Aberdeen

Essentially Cosgrove comes across as a bit of a thicko, compared to some of the wily A league antagonists, with a simple philosophy.

He doesn’t really try to get away with anything or trick the ref. He just barges, pushes and shoves. And sometimes the marker comes up to his armpit.

He managed to be onside to tap in against us twice, so we can’t really comment much tbh.

Edit- as for the Rory comparison, I want to say Rory was a bit more cultured. Might be NZ coloured glasses. Not sure.

Very average performance by AFC. Just shows what happens when you have a number of key players out. The Nix dont have AFCs depth and have really struggled with 6+ players often missing.
Cogrove is one of those all elbows and knees old fashion no 9. He looks completely unsuitable to the hard and fast AL. Mata was big but he was an athlete and linked very well with May and Rogerson. Now May is invisible and the AFC attack is poor.
Cosgrove could easily have had a red in this game. He elbowed LKH in the face in the derby and got a yellow in this game for the same thing. He will be targeted in future games for sure.
AFC seem fixated on a big target man but they have lots of quick skillfull attackers who could win them games. Cosgrove is a bizarre signing IMO

Rory was always being pinged for it at Argyle. Mind you we used it to our advantage.

Wish argyle had players like him now or that Wayne becomes a player like him.

Not really a third kit is it,? More like the away kit was left in the wash with the home kit and some of the blue bled.

Fair point, no one clashes with their away white?

Maybe they are going to sell a few?

The colours admittedly do blend in apart from the MacDonalds crap

Crowd on Sunday will likely be the lowest ever and below 10k.

Santa parade on the same day at 1pm with a 3pm kick. Loads of kids and families there coupled with the notorious grid lock afterwards will have an impact.

Derby also the following week.

Jot them down theprof we can use some of those excuses, can only imagine the comments if those were in a Phoenix thread. Guess we are going to see some good ones if attendances do drop. No i dont want them to drop either so dont bother.
