Can't see them going for both Sail and Woud. Sail seems to have won his place back & playing well, so might stick it out.

They say they have 7 players signed up, so maybe those 5 mentioned in the article + Rojas/Smith?
As I understand it those two have not put pen to paper. I also understand the seven includes at least one Australian.

Off contract Aussies I would want (if I was an Auckland fan):
Brimmer
Nisbet
Good

[Edit: Iirc, Natta was previously linked to Auckland. If its him, that is a terrible signing]

I would've thought "community engagement" would mean a more public naming process that would actually engage with the community it wishes to represent, rather than choose a name and colours behind closed doors and hope we like it.

Name now decided. "A strong football heritage name" eh. "Which also speaks to our ambition and the global piece." Interesting. Intriguing.
Ajax Auckland ... Auckland Albion ... Inter Auckland ... Real Auckland ...
Gawd! I hope it won't be corny as hell

Has to be AFC Auckland. Only name which both has 'strong football heritage' and links to Foley's 'global' exploits

Some kind of public naming contest like the Warriors?
This club is gunna be different you’d think. Expectations will be much higher. Billionaire propping up the league, he can name it however he wants! McFlynn as CEO isn’t a grassroots club.

They've had Kingz, & Knights. Why not Bishops, or Rooks or Porns/Pawns or Queens?

I reckon a Sheffield Wednesday style Kit would best reflect Auckland.

It just has to be blue and white

The name I am relaxed with unless there is a colour in there.

The kit I’m not

Same, but I think there will be blue to placate people and black for Foley's ego, that's my theory

If this team has Knight in it's name you know the commetary is gonna be all about resurrection the old NZ knights. Which will be dreary and horrible. Blue and black for the kit will work, Victory are blue and white.

I mocked up this design a few months ago which I reckon looks decent.

Personally I do think Blue and white is more representative of Auckland, but the blue/black can definitely work.

Could it be black and blue hoops? I know it's an Auckland rugby thing but also that ties back in to the area. Sash on the away kit?

I much prefer a blue-black combination over blue-white.

I'd also like to see something unique for a kit, or at least unique to the A-League. Something like this:
Auckland City Thunder 4 Home & Away.png 277.66 KB

And sponsorless:
The upright triangles represent the 53 volcanoes Auckland is built on (It's not quite exactly 53 on the design but with a little tweaking you could get it to that number)

I think royal blue + white stripes would definitely be distinct enough from victory's navy + white v. Much worse has been done in the league

Old Auckland rep teams played in blue and white too. If I was starting a 0 year old football club in a franchised league, I would do everything in my power to link it to already existing football traditions in the region. It adds legitimacy.

This has probably been said but just let Foley have all black as his away kit. The Nix barely seem to play in their home kit anyway so that should keep him happy.

This has been said, but the Nix don't have a home kit - they've got two kits and they play 50% of their time in each.

If you don't think a predominantly black kit is Phoenix colours, this was our first home kit:

For Auckland:
Blue and white kit A
Blue and black kit B

Sorted!

Won’t be able to play against the Victory or Sydney, but otherwise fine.

He'll probably die before Auckland's first game to be honest.

Agree with the hoops, the QPR kit has always looked one of the best

I don’t want to get into a rugby argument with any feral football supporter, but likewise the old Auckland npc with hoops was awesome

Nothing says the west Midlands like that sponsor, good grief
