Youngheart, as the top source on this forum, apart from the Japanese defender do you have any other tidbits of goss about the possible other imports, to spice things up?

Had a top Copa America apparently. Probably some Billionaire MLS owners that will be more tempted to have a crack than Bill F. They'd get some decent return on merch sales, commercial deals given the Colombian diaspora Stateside (approx 1.5M).

Best way to get a move to Scotland (basically Europe) is to star in the A-League tho!

Good idea, from there it's a easy move to the League of Ireland.

Had a taxi driver once in Santa Marta, Colombia (bit of a Miami or Gold Coast) wave his arm at some swanky beachside apartments and say James Rodriguez has a pad here. I think many Colombians are disappointed that after the 2014 WC his career never took off like they had hoped.

No more on the import side of things at this stage, but there's another couple of Kiwi signings that should be announced soon. 👀

Sorry, but for now thats all I can give ya's on that front. 😅

Still a helluva' lot of trialists turning up to NHS too. I'll see if I can update ya's on any new faces as and when they come through like I have been doing.

Hilarious, I drove past a VW full of trendy looking lads last week and I half jokingly wondered if they were heading home from training. Sure enough. The boys that had to sit in the back seats lost a lot of cool points though.

Paulo Retre linked with Auckland after departing FC Goa in India.

Haven't got the inside word on this, just reading along with some speculation I've seen. 😅

I think they call that negative aura these days.

Three for me, and two for them.

Yeah I'd gathered as much on that front tbh. 😆

Well that was one of them, but since it's public now. 😆

The other one is young Kiwi goalkeeper Joe Knowles out of Eastern Suburbs. Won out over Oscar Mason and Freddie Martin (formerly of St Mirren) who had been trialling with the club.

Good news re Rogerson. Playing well enough in 2022 to be recalled to the AWs, after assists & goals in Finland.

But going to Armenia is taking yourself right off the radar, even if the money was not bad. He hasn't been playing there much anyway.

Auckland FC - fast becoming the destination for Kiwi footballers to restart their careers.

Thats the beauty of having a second professional team here - much more opportunity for these players!

They're really milking the piss out of this Sakai announcement! 🤣

Anyway, a few more faces at training today as well.

Sam Lack from NCR?  Someone was saying the Nix should have been looking at him.

Got a heads up that Auckland will also make a major off field announcement Thursday. No idea what that means

New stadium plans or major sponsor you'd think.

Interesting that Sakai is officially their 3rd RB, although he can play any defensive position.
Elliot and Galloway might be worried if they'll see much game time if Sakai is your starting RB.

Sakai's 34 now, and he's 6 foot. Wouldn't surprise to see him as a starting CB alongside Hall. Smith on the bench

https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/350354441/auckland-fc-sign-japanese-world-cup-player-hiroki-sakai-first-import

Although he has primarily played as a right back throughout his career, Corica said Sakai had the versatility to cover every position in his back line.

Auckland have two other right backs on their roster: All White Callan Elliot and Australian Scott Galloway.

“Hiroki is a highly regarded, extremely hard-working and technically gifted player who covers an unbelievable amount of ground. Tactically he is also a very well-disciplined player,” Corica said.

“He is versatile enough to play in all defensive positions. It’s a real strength to have his experience, speed and dominance to cover across the back four.”

I would expect Galloway to start at LB for AFC. De Vries will have to fight for minutes.

Excellent signing IMO. When he played at Marseille he quickly became a fan favorite. He’s a good hard working pro player. Always gave 100% and never caused any trouble. He’s technically and tactically very good. I have no doubt he will be ok in the A League. He gave his interviews in English if I remember correctly.

Pet hates fast food chains sponsoring anything sports related, and Coca Cola front and centre at every Olympics press conference I've seen so far.

Only time I've ever really liked CR7, is when he removed that Coke bottle at a post game brief he was doing.

Might do. This is hardly the same rivalry wise but you often used to see Celtic and Rangers sporting the same shirt sponsor so that neither fan base had a reason to boycott that company.

Mind you boycotting McDonalds isn't the worst idea sporting related or not.

Three for me, and two for them.

I should let everyone know that the fun-loving communists at Tamaki AFC have designed their own knock-off shirts, this should be fun
