This shower you speak of, did you perchance have your hand on it at the same time sir? I too, was talking to myself in the shower and decided I was the next RB too as I had my hand on it....

My shower is a handsfree version. It hangs from a rail on the wall!

McBreen would have to be gutted not to be in the starting line-up.

ADP in the middle of the front three, so guess they wanted more wider strikers.

Article also links to the Pitch & Stadium survey. ROF was 8th for pace, 9th for hardness and 3rd for smoothness. We were last for Atmosphere.

Because there is no way that he wasn't going to make the team of the year.

He wouldn't be in my team but it being the PFA team, it seems the players must think he is.

Plus the PFA team has to be a 4-3-3 formation. It's part of the voting criteria. So rather than him being chosen as the central striker, he's been chosen as one of three forwards in general.

Championship-winning coach Graham Arnold believes there are too many foreign players in the A-League, warning their prevalence is hurting the Socceroos.

Arnold claims his Central Coast Mariners, who clinched their first domestic championship title last Sunday, are probably the only club in the A-League really prioritising local talent over foreign imports.

Arnie can give us Wee Mac then, that will give Holger another Aussie to choose from.

Reports coming out of the CCM Fans Forum, that the FFA may take responsibility for player payments. Only way I see that working, is the FFA withholding the Salary Cap from the clubs grants, and drip feeding that for the monthly wages.

That is what I was wondering but the way CCM people have posted, suggest its league wide.

I'm not an expert on the MLS but sounds something that they do.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Major_League_Soccer#Ownership

MLS operates under a single-entity structure in which teams are centrally owned by the league.[3] Each team has an owner-operator that is a shareholder in the league. In order to control costs, the league shares revenues, negotiates player contracts, and holds players contracts instead of players contracting with individual teams. The league won a bitter legal battle with its players over its economic system, which was eventually resolved with the players gaining some improved benefits in return for accepting the single-entity structure. The court also ruled that even absent their collective bargaining agreement, players could opt to play in other leagues if they were unsatisfied.

Important announcement tomorrow with PFA and FFA. Tipping the Collective Bargaining Agreement has been sorted.
Will be interesting to see how much the cap rises by.

I was there ... tis true... FFA will pay players direct as I understand it and send the tax money to the clubs ... essentially FFA will make a monthly payment to the players and club re the 2.5 million salary cap...

Socceroo/ Mariner / Whangarei

New CBA is for 2 yrs, Cap goes up to 2.5 mil for 13/14 and 2.55 mil for 14/15. The FFA distributions to the clubs will match the salary cap.

Other important points of the new agreement include:

• the retention of 2 Marquee Players per club;
• the retention of 3 Homegrown Players per club;
• an increase in the minimum wage to $50,000 (excluding superannuation and any match payments)($40,000 for players under 20);
• retention of arguably the world’s best player injury protection scheme, featuring full protection for contracted players, income insurance for 104 weeks for injured players out of contract (now capped at $350,000 p.a.) and career ending insurance (1 - 10 years annual salary based on age, capped at $500,000);
• enhanced mandated medical standards, which have contributed to a substantial reduction in player injury rates since their introduction two seasons ago;
• free agency within Australia for out of contract players;
• minimum payments for the Asian Champions League and exhibition matches; and
• the establishment of a Strategic Committee between FFA and the PFA to work collaboratively with Clubs and players to achieve the viability and growth of the A-League.

Really does it make it easier for all clubs to become sustainable long-term. Probably the biggest thing to happen to the league since its inception. Now, all we need is to get rid of those stupid plastic chairs and get a real subs bench!

"FFA Club Distributions can only be used to pay Players' salaries"

You might as well spend all the cap now then, nothing to be gained by operating at 80%

I can understand that the FFA pays the players, then every player/$ under the cap is guaranteed to get paid, but then not to pay out the difference to the club if it is spending less than 100% of the cap is silly.

Kevin Airs @KevinAirs442

Some interesting new clauses in latest A-League standard player contract, outlawing Harry Kewell-style ambush marketing sponsorships…

…and putting the All-Stars games on a par with international call ups in terms of clubs making players available...

(But All-Stars games only earn A-League pay, not Socceroo-level pay…)

@BrendanSchwab @thepfa if clubs do not want to spend their 2.5mil, will they receive the rest of their share?

I agree.

But just from another angle, wouldn't holding back the 'unused' money encourage clubs to spend the cap, which could also be a good thing?

Ask the owners of the 'Nix. We are supposedly aiming to spend up to the cap, if we happen to be under we should still receive our share and since we are not yet fully sustainable it would be welcomed. If the owners were happy with their extra payments the increased revenue could be invest to improve facilities (and keep players like Marco :P ) or help fund our academy or pay for extra costs we incur when we stay in Oz between matches.

I think if they give the money outright as a lump sum, then you will have teams that will try to make money out of it. i.e. if we can put out a team for only XYZ of 2.5 mil, who cares how they perform if they make us money. While they are entitled to make money out of it, what does that then do the credibility of the league putting out a team of hacks on minimum wage. It would not happen but the potential for abuse is there.

I agree that the teams have to spend to the cap limit or anything not spent is not given to the club (or perhaps find some other use to benefit the club with out it being pocketed)
