I agree.

But just from another angle, wouldn't holding back the 'unused' money encourage clubs to spend the cap, which could also be a good thing?

I think if they give the money outright as a lump sum, then you will have teams that will try to make money out of it. i.e. if we can put out a team for only XYZ of 2.5 mil, who cares how they perform if they make us money. While they are entitled to make money out of it, what does that then do the credibility of the league putting out a team of hacks on minimum wage. It would not happen but the potential for abuse is there.

I agree that the teams have to spend to the cap limit or anything not spent is not given to the club (or perhaps find some other use to benefit the club with out it being pocketed)

There is already a minimum amount, clubs can't spend less than 80% of the cap (I haven't heard of this changing with the newly agreed CBA deal). They are more worried that clubs will have problems paying the players, as our club has done, so rather all $ under the cap paid by the FFA.

80%? Ah, a detail I was not aware of. Thank you.

Kevin Airs @KevinAirs442

Some interesting new clauses in latest A-League standard player contract, outlawing Harry Kewell-style ambush marketing sponsorships…

…and putting the All-Stars games on a par with international call ups in terms of clubs making players available...

(But All-Stars games only earn A-League pay, not Socceroo-level pay…)

This has hit the news today. I can't see the problem myself. Can someone tell me why people think this will scare away big names from the A-League? It seems to have caused a twitter meltdown and I'm an f*ckwit for siding with the FFA over this.

A-League refs form union, threaten strike.

I know many might say "... and nothing of value was lost", but perhaps the problem is that FFA have been paying peanuts and therefore getting monkey-like performances.

It is about time they did it. Being the only amateur part of the league is a bit of a joke. Everyone else gets paid for their time and contribution to the competition, why shouldn't they?

I think the tone and headline of the article is a bit over the top. They're negotiating in good faith at this stage, forming a union and getting a lawyer to help with negotiations for the 50 of them is sensible, and there is no indication that the FFA will turn them down. Hardly a collision course with a threat of strike.

Yeah pretty good to finally add a little more credibility.

Talk is that season following they are going to push the clubs to have propper bench seating rather than the current garden seats.

Phoenix already have bench/dugout seating, about the only club that does have it from memory.

Proper seats would be mean!

When I first started watching A-League and saw those plastic garden chairs I was like "what...???!!!"

Also every team should build their own stadium. That would be pretty mean too.

The issue the FFA have with them are the dugouts blocking the view of fans sitting behind them. We can use them because we have no issue due to the pitch being lower (and having no fans).

1' Goal Roar. We've been underway just one minute and @brisbaneroar open the scoring... #HeartBelieve

Officially the goal came in the 16th second. Goal to Berisha. Slow start from the Red and White. #HeartBelieve

The current dug outs sit quite low on the grass when as the old ones didn't and they blocked more seats. Occasionally you will see the dugouts quite a distance from the field, particularly with bigger crowds (bahrain game) so the people in the front rows can see.

RBB not as all happy about this, seems a lot of them had already booked flights and accommodation. A few of the tin foil hat wearing members reckon the FFA doesn't want them to travel in number ...
