Yes but from Craig Moore's rant (as quoted in other thread), dodgy SBS reporting is not just scurrilous stories about the Nix. Loose stories undermines and pisses off other clubs too, like the Roar.

Can't go round accusing SBS of solely targeting the Nix, without following all the half arsed stories they release about the other 9 A League sides. Seems more shark journalism, that any vendetta against NZ's sole a League team.

Agree, but over the last 3 months at least we have definitely been getting the lions share of SBS' shark journalism.

Maybe but you'd have to read every A League story released by SBS, to stay that's fact.

I believe the most likely source for these stories is Rudan's agent, trying to panic Welnix into giving up a pony. Doesn't mean there's nothing to them but the fact that they're being released may be perversely a positive sign that negotiations are ongoing.

That's a positive way of looking at it, I'll go with that for my sanity ;)

To take up a national team role perhaps?

Are there any rules against approaching a cocach while they are still under contract? - there is in other sports.

I would prefer Kurz.

The biggest problem that the Nix has IF Rudan moves on is that we want to have a coach we know and not get into the same problem we had last season.

I am just keeping a slim hope that Rudan stays, but I would not put my house on it.

No to Joyce or the Aloisi brothers

Now why wouldn't Western Melbourne appoint Kurz?  Rudan would then see his second year out at the Nix, and apply for the new Sydney franchise's coaching position the year after.

You could argue his family might be able to do a year here, next season, if needed, rather than contemplate a move to Melbourne for longer than that.

If The Bitumens were the only new franchise over the next two seasons then I would expect them to be an attractive proposition for Rudan, if his family does not want to move here. But with the new Sydney franchise the year after, this really changes the landscape, doesn't it?  He would not need to break a contract, and his family would not need to contemplate a move to Melbourne (or not seeing him frequently again, this time for few more seasons after his one year at the Nix).

Joyceball is a scourge on the A-League. I would be genuinely distraught if we hire him, such boring, negative football

Worryingly given some of the other decisions they have made in recent times its not something sadly we can just brush away.

Rudan has mates at WU?

In other words, we should acknowledge that he only started to talk about his "family needs" once the WU franchise was announced?

If that was the case then I think it has more to do with his skillful maneuvering to get a good leverage out of us for next season than actual serious doubts of him staying with Wellington Phoenix  - short of some hideous unexpected outcome regarding the independent HAL negotiations.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

I expect it has always been about getting what he wants, in my opinion he has never indicated that he'd be leaving for WU. He has always said he came here to do a job, he told the club his family was important and he'd need a solution to the travel promptly. He came here to make a legacy (you can't do that in 1 year).

If we can't get Rudan to stay, we need a home-grown coach with the goods.  Part of what makes Rudan a great a league gaffer is alongside a bit of tactical nous and great player management skills, he's well connected throughout Aussie and overseas. He knows that Golec is worth the investment. It's  has worked against us as well, though.

Depending on how Buckingham fares with U20 and if he would want to come back to club footy....

Third best win percentage for Nix after Rudan and Ricki.

If Rudan leaves, then it is essential that Greenacre stays on. As he has been there all season and can continue with the same training culture. I'm sure he has learn't alot under Rudan..

Buckingham and Greenacre made a good combo in the past so makes sense. might be better than bringing in someone with a big ego that wants to start again from scratch and undo all the good work made this year.

Sadly still dont see some players signing on again if Rudan isnt here and no matter how you try and coat it who ever comes in its going to be a case of starting all over again. As much as i want Rudan to stay the news i really want to hear above all else is that there is still going to be a Phoenix.

Rudan goes we are quite simply fudgeed!

Kurto looks like he is going and that makes sense - but good luck signing Marinovic or any other player for a 1 year deal with the club folding at the end of the season.

Kurto going would hurt a lot but Sail looked decent when playing. If he played every week who knows how well he could do.

If Rudan leaves, we wouldn't be able to attract decent Aussie players; we would really be struggling. Greenie is good and all - but to be successful in the A-League you need to either:

A) Be in Melbourne or Sydney

B) Have a coach who can attract players despite not being in Melbourne or Sydney.

It's not like Rudan has brought in a whole lot of top Aussie players over though. Williams the only Aussie who has started regularly this season that Rudan has brought in, and not sure he was really on anyone else's radar. What Rudan has shown is that we can be at least moderately successful with a core of NZ players, decent imports, and a few Aussies who other clubs probably weren't after (even if a bit hit & miss on that front like with Nichols).

Yes, it's likely that if Rudan stays he probably would have extra ability to draw good Aussies over, but this season shows we can do relatively well without having exerted great 'coach pulling power'.
