F!@# it must be gutting for the club having to start from scratch, and the players who have bought into Rudan's culture. We only have 6 players signed up with many openly saying it depends on who, read as Rudan staying, the coach is. Angry and despondent at the same time.

Gutting for fans too, but I hope it can be a Phoenix culture, not just Rudan culture. Something that lasts regardless of who the next coach is (and they'd need to buy in to it a bit too). Wishful idealistic thinking maybe.

Will be very pissed if he ends up at WU with Kurto or if it comes out hes had any influence over the WU signings while still being contracted to us

We have six players signed for next season, and our licence past then is not secured, and we have no coach.

I'd be shocked if someone like Krishna re-signed for us given that.

Gutted.

Was there actually an announcement here that he's going? Or?

If the article is true in saying that he refused to talk to the club about his contract status for a month, during which Kurto happened to sign for the club he will manage next season, then I've lost all respect for him. He's used us to simply grab a cushier job and hid behind the family argument which he knows no one will argue with. All his talk about loyalty and giving his all into the job was an absolute load of crap. For someone that claims to love this club and this country, his refusal to address the speculation and his complete lack of communication with the club has thrown the only professional club in New Zealand's future into serious jeopardy.

I am so gutted about what I've just read. Although I guess it was always a potential outcome for him to leave I can't fault the guy, he was exactly what we needed at the Nix and hasn't been afraid to speak his mind around issues at the club. So for that, thank you Mark Rudan, you picked up a wounded Phoenix and at least got us out of the ashes from which we've been for the past several years.

I did think he'd stick to his word on the 2 year contract though, which is probably the most disappointing thing about this all. Good luck to him wherever he ends up (We all know where that will be...) I just hope Welnix does arrange or have provisions in place to get compensated/brought out of the remaining year of his contract with us - after all we took the chance to bring him here where he has thrived and obviously been recognised as a talent back across the ditch. Either that or what's the point of having bloody contracts if you can just walk away from them?

Guess that means a few players will be heading with him too, which is horrible in itself since we've only got 6 players locked in for next year. But trying to look on the bright side, at least there is pretty much a blank canvas to work with for whoever is going to come in. Should we just offer Krishna whatever he wants? Give him $1,000,000 a season (wishful, maybe...) and get him to sign a contract and lock him in. I don't think I could take it if he decides to leave too.

Not the first time Phoenix fans get kicked in the guts and for all our support all we get from a fly buy nite coach like Rudan is insulted about attendances,Would not be surprised at all to see him know go anti Nix..Sick of hearing about how he has changed the culture you could probably now argur he will have changed it twice because no way will it be the same next season if we have one.

Possibly explains a tepid performance last weekend.  The players probably knew.

Club should stand theor ground and make him stay - then they dont waste any money......we're fudgeed either way.

If that's true, what a fudgeing way to mar the business end of the only successful season in ages.

Obvious some in the know for a while.

Yeh, dick move- but hey lets blame the owners for not pumping in the cash while being continuously undermined.

Happy we had this season. But we shouldn't be content with that.

It's a bit BS for us to be a trial run for WU. But we aren't really rulemakers in this competition and we don't know what his contract is. Understand the distance relationship thing.

Really wish this had been the start of a Nix dynasty.

If he goes to Western, and takes any players with him, we at least have our first true grrrrival team. God I hate them already.

If true, it's enough for the owner to go FUCK IT let go too.

I think stuff talked about there being an 8 week notice resignation clause in his contract... So we can't make him stay. God imagine if he takes Kurto and Williams to WU, maybe Burgess too, Krishna leaves for bigger money than we can give him, Mandi goes back to Spain, Dura retires, and we replace Rudan with Warren Joyce. What a nightmare this could all turn out to be.

Sigh.

Rudan got given an out clause he didn't want? Or smart media work? If that's true because of Darje, mental and shoddy management.

No surprise - though his exit strategy wasn't ideal. Wanting to be back with your family was all that was needed. We all understand that.

But Rudan has done a great job here, and hopefully tonight can fire his team up to make last weekend's first 45 a true blip, and make things interesting in the playoffs.

He will be at WU as he has already signed there.Kurtz will be our new coach.

I assume the club wanted a with notice out clause put in after the Kalezic debacle, and Rudan (pretty fairly) would have insisted that it least be a two way clause, and agreed to it.  Seems a naive attempt to avoid having to pay two managers salary if things went tits up, that left us open for poaching when they didn't.

Although I do worry about his youth development.  Not sure what youth stocks Adelaide have, but they don't seem to have got much of a run this year.

Dome out- now while we got him and he's still our coach FIRE UP! All a plot to prevent us getting a home final.

May as well write off next season now. Finals this year largely a waste of time. We'll lose most if not all of the players off contract. Independent league not going to save the club, no coach will take the job for a single year with no players and no future.

Greenacre? Don't write off the finals!

Was about to post something about extorting WU with the ‘pay us now or we’ll make you wait a year’ and then saw the piece about that 8 week clause. Fuuuuuuuuuuu

Who puts an 8 week out clause in a contract - Welnx's management is fudgeed.

I want a committed coach- and Rudan has been. Everything about the Nix has been better this year.

Kurz maybe okay, but we need to look for someone in the Poppa/Rudan mode. Don't give up and be defeatist. What's Bosnich doing? Heh.

I'd be okay with Kurz- but we need finals football and some buzz.

Sorry but im really surprised how people are so accepting of this family excuse. So when he signed with us did he not realise it was going to require him to be away from his family for  periods of time. Have known plenty of people who have had to leave family for extended periods due to it being their job . Sorry not an excuse i truly believe.

So during his football career both playing  and commentating this is the first time he has had to be away from family. Im calling BS on that.

We suited what he wanted at the time and now we dont so much easier to just walk away.

Depending on who he takes with him i really fear for our future. How much longer before the Welnix guys just say you no what this is just to FKN hard.

When you learn from a cluster f-ck like last year the 8 weeks is sensibly.

But should have been 1 way. (If that legal)

Surely the sensible thing to do would've been to add performance clauses in his contract rather than a straight 8 week notice clause able to be triggered by either side...

Am I a terrible person for hoping Mark 'Judas' Rudan fails next year?

I get the feeling when he takes several of our best players with him others may take up my point of view...

Am I the only person who's started to get a bit tired of Rudan's ego? I've got the impression recently that he thinks he's better than the club. He's only managed 20 odd professional matches, hasn't accomplished anything significant yet.

Not sure I would agree with you.  He is a young / newbie / coach at that level, and arguably put together a better team than what an old fox like Ernie Merrick could, and produced better results in one season than Ernie could.  If we actually need a replacement, I would take Kurz over Joyce anytime, but that discussion would be probably of academic interest only.

The one I feel most sorry for is Louie Fenton. His chance of playing finals football gone.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

Nah, Rudes has spent the season building a squad where players would run through walls for him. Keep him on till the end of the season, he'll encourage the players to give it their all until its over.
