Mark Judan: Family Time

Its all very well thinking that it will be ok living away from the family for awhile; its a very different story when things start to go a bit pear shape . . . illness, kids not doing well at school, wife overburdened etc. etc.

Wouldn't blame him at all if he up sticks.

This is not necessarily a glass half empty scenario . . . I reckon he's almost certainly the best coach that the Phoenix have had; doesn't automatically mean that they're stuffed without him.

In one sense if he's really unhappy with the situation then its best all round if he leaves at the end of the season. The novelty of another 100k or whatever, if he can get it, will soon wear off.

Doesn't sound good.

At least the management know what a good coach looks like now - has had success (even if at a lower level), and hasn't been sacked heaps of times.

NZ media are doing damage to the team by making this an issue right now. Team and management need to focus on task ahead, not get distracted by media interference.

If he leaves we won't find out until the end of the current season either way. So why make an issue of it now. 

If he does leave he will have his reasons, Certainly putting pressure on Rudan publicly right now, is not going to work in our favour any way at all.

Wish the media would focus on the football leading upto a big game like this then put out potential distractions, especially so close to game day.

The media wouldn't be doing their job if they kept questions hushed because they are inconvenient. At the same time, looking at Rudan's answer he gave today, that's probably about as up front as he can reasonably be right now so I would hope they back off it now.

If he bails after 1 season I would lose a pile of respect for him. He knew the situation when he signed up and putting us in the position of having to find another manager next season would be extremely unhelpful to the club. We are the first club prepared to give him a shot in the A League and I would expect him to honor his 2 year deal.

If it was put to me at the start of the season that we can have the successes we've had this season with a manager but it's only for one season I would've taken that. Would be a blow if he leaves so soon but regardless, he's still been very helpful to the club.

I'm not sure why he is talking all about this again. This is a big week, champions team is coming, we are fighting for points for the 4th place, maybe the biggest crowd ever. I like to talk about football and not about his private issues. A lot of my co-workers are in similar situation, you have to suck it up and vent that stuff in private discussion and not at the workplace. I think Rudan is not is not very professional.

It's worrying how many players we have off contract if the coach leaves, could give West Melbourne a few good ones.

So in summary, we've managed to persuade ourselves that even if next year isn't our last season, we're still fudged because Rudan's taking the entire team with him to West Melbourne Bogans FC.

And people dared call me a Cassandra.

And anyway, now you'd look like an outrageous optimist, in hindsight.

Would surely think similar if the family aspect wasn't as strong. Feel like he didn't know how difficult it would be when he signed up - been a Sydney man all his life, and he can't face the prospect of yet another year away from them

If Rudan took our best players with him next year to new Melbourne team he may be the biggest traitor of  all time. A kind of super judas. 

I wonder if he has a release clause or a non competitive one as in he can't pursue any Nix players after his departure until said contract would have been completed etc.

Bloody typical isn't it. Best season for years, playoffs beckoning, and now this coaching thing is going to be hanging over us for the duration. Hope the club is working on a Plan B because I can easily see this issue turning into a big mess.

Let's not get carried away. Why don't we just wait before we're getting angry at him for stealing players lol?

My take is he'll leave but our future is far more secure with him in charge, so the owners have told him that he has to stay quiet until we've got some progress on our future. 

If he sticks around till our future is secure, then great. It'd be better to have him for longer, but he'll have played a very important part in the club's history.

Frankly if he is going would rather he FO now rather than dragging it out and giving the owners players and lastly the fans continual lines of BS.

We seem to be a club perpetually in one crisis or another does get a little annoying at times im at the stage where i really dont give a fudge one way or another.  I will keep up with my record as long as i can but not sure i can really justify spending sharkloads on merchandise any more.

I wonder what the things are that he still isn’t happy about and wants change? He has mentioned before that prior to takin* on the job he asked about the level of commitment by the owners. Now if he is of the true belief they are dragging the chain, family reasons will have a more pronounced effect on his decision to stay or go.

Last year i was offered a job, which was a very attractive proposition for me but which would have involved me being away from my home and my family for long periods. I turned down the offer for that reason. So, on one hand, I'm a bit 'meh' about all this. I do, however, understand that it's a tough thing to do and understand how he might be feeling. I'll be disappointed if he goes, but that's about it.

I'm far more worried about what will happen IF he does decide to jump ship after this season. This club doesn't have a great track record of building on improvements and capitalising on momentum which has been gained, the distinct lack of anything after the #savethenix campaign being a prime example. If he goes, we'd need someone with similar determination and vision to carry on with what he's started. History suggests that we won't do that, and that is what I'm concerned about.

There are a couple of things that might stop him taking the Melbourne job next season. He'd still be separated from his family who are in Sydney, and if he went to Melbourne he could hardly ditch them after one season and jump ship to Sydney. It would seem to make more sense to do his two seasons with the Nix, do well with the club, then go straight to Sydney without burning any bridges. Unless his family fancy a few years in Wellington and they make the move across the ditch so Rudes has time to really prove himself at this level. 

That Radio Sport interview was really positive, both on Rudan, but also the future of the Nix.  Christ i'd love it if the new league came to fruition, we were part of it and Rudan leading the army.

Sounded like the Eden park CEO were desperate to get the nix back.

Dome sounds really upbeat and positive..............loves us as a supporter group.

Hutt City and Karori biggest catchment areas! Interesting. Maybe a stadium in the Hutt wouldn't be such a bad idea.

Rudan ticked all the boxes at interview.......speculation not disruptive - we are building projects for him to sink his teeth into - Mark does things his way and the club are happy to work with that.

My take, Rudan wants to do more within the club, owners are talking about what that looks like and what they need to do to kep him here.

Funny how he mentions a city and a suburb as the two catchment areas, Karori is a big suburb but there's a bit of disparity there.

Bit I don't understand is ...IF ... he is going he cannot leave for at least 10 maybe 12 weeks....

That would leave about 5 months take off a couple of weeks in relocation ...

If I had a club I would want my coach early for things like player recruitment ... like they have only two players signed and would the new coach not want to pick his own squad... 

Pretty sure they can email/call back and forth about player recruitment pretty easily.

Didn't read the last 62 messages. My gut is that the club will give him a pay rise and contrast extension while supporting a move to NZ for his immediate family.
Clearly, if you're worried Rudes might go, the only way to prevent this is to do a YF tee with his face on it....

Do that and he'll probably blow his ACL
