Whoever they sign as a coach would surely be allowed to select his own squad?

HHHHHMMmmmm do I or don't I .... why not.. and in reply to some comments on my previous post..

Not sure its the right thread but given Rudan is making a song and dance about it and it has received some coverage over the last few pages then I think its OK... and given we [Mariners] have received a couple of lift your game correspondence yes don't all yell at once not to the same degree but you are not the only ones and NQF & the Gold Coast have been let go already over metrics with both clubs arguing to stay... only mentioning this for context..

All the next points I make have some truth to them, and are mostly but entirely factually correct,

* When comparing the Mariners to the Nix we have a licence to 2034.

* Its Aussie Redneck clubs and trolls on social media screaming for Nix out. [arguably more voices than this]

* Australian State Feds should have limited input to the Nix decision.

* Nix pay their bills, some folded Aussie clubs have not and have gone under.

* Metrics should not be a key measurement tool.

* FIFA will over ride any AFC concerns.  [maybe on this and a big maybe]

* Nix have done nothing wrong [a maybe again IMO]

* We have built an academy

I may have left some points out that could be added to the above and please feel free to add more.

The thing is, Hal if we take the broader church view of fans sponsors etc wants growth and the way the growth takes place is also very important to most and in brief what most want is two Div's of 16 teams with P & R between them and in time a Div 3 of sorts to get into Div 2. Essentially a full or close to it FIFA model.

Within the framework of reaching the goals of 32 professional teams, is the need to increase metrics simply to fund the expansion. Further revenue is needed for Australia to compete at national level within Asia. We have 9 squads most competing 8 times meaning funding at least 72 national matches a year. This takes considerable funding and with the AFC getting Socceroo media revenue that money has to come from somewhere.

The second Div looks like being in place in about 18 months.

There are to the best of my knowledge 3 major or key working doc's doing the rounds, 1 by FFA, 2 By the A-League clubs, 3 By the PFA .

All these working doc's have identified the need to expand and grow the game.

What Rudan from afar seems to be saying is, get away from the points of we have done nothing wrong, and everyone is against us... look to how the Nix's can be a major part of the bigger plan.

The idea any club will be allowed to sit on a licence until 2034 is wrong, if a club cannot met the metrics they will be let go NQF & the Gold Coast are perfect examples and we have received warnings.

I think that the new club has poached Rudan sucks dicks and I would be very pissed... and if he takes players that is beyond the pale and a real C of an act ... a total Judas act.. but look to why it happened also... as the under lying circumstances  need to be fixed to ensure your survival...

Socceroo/ Mariner / Whangarei

Thanks Midfielder, some good additional context there.

But, it's very easy for Rudan or anyone else to say "look at the broader picture, just get on with growing the game etc" to the Nix's owners. Fact is, though, their place in league is on completely different terms to all other clubs. Our owners can't be placed in same basket as GCU, NQF, or even yours at CCM.

Exactly, telling the nix owners to top focussing on the them against us is literally impossible when they are 12 months out from not existing. Rudan asking for more investment makes zero sense when the axe is on it's way down. The Welnix guys have done everything they can to keep this club going, the brought Rudan in for two years cos that's all they had - he's brought in some players who bought into the "build a legacy" talk - now he's ditching his legacy cos the club wont invest more money and offer him longevity (when they actually can't). He's had us over a barrel from day one, club was desperate for a coach, he knew it, cleverly negotiated an escape clause and timed his demands 8 weeks before the season ends. All the while knowing that no owner is going to invest stupid money into something that is dead and lamost buried.

What i dont get is how some of the so called experts can claim that he has left us in a better position.Seems they have been conned by his build a legacy BS and for what ever reason just wont criticize him. As theprof said above who would invest money in something that there is no guarantee of a future  for. We suited what Rudan wanted and he blinded everyone with his BS then he cut and ran when something else came up

If your theory is correct that the owners are refusing to make any more investment because they think the club is almost dead & buried then it makes perfect sense for Rudan not to hang around and would be silly to criticise him for it.

According to the media reports the eight week thing if it exists was put in once by the club after they struggled to get rid of Darje and Rudan questioned it.

Agree with every word of this. Piney especially refuses to say a bad word about him, which absolutely baffles me. Regardless of what you think of him based off your one-on-one interactions with him, Rudan has shafted us and despite "loving" the club he can't be stupid enough to not realise the damage this move has done and will do.

Precisely, it's a shame Voerman is on holiday for two weeks. Need someone to ask him some serious questions and not accept a palm off. He's shafted the club, and he needs to be called up on it.

Yeah, but nah. Rudan knew the deal he was walking into on this - it is not news that this has been the Nix owners' position for some time. They will invest, but the value proposition has to be, if not attractive, then at least sensible. Current deal with FFA is not that, pure and simple.

Rudan is quitting - that's the truth. Our owners are not - that's the truth too. In fact, my guess is that Rob M is over in Oz most weeks at the moment with stuff around the NLWG. The patience and commitment our owners have shown and continue to show given the situation is actually remarkable.

Rudan? Yeah, not so much. Building a legacy, ah, fudge off, Mark. Shark, if he then goes off on one this week about encouraging more fans to turn up to the last regular season home game, I'll really lose my rag.

Agree with others too that our local press need to put all Voerman's questions to Rudan and the club, and demand answers.

14 Apr 21:24

When you hire a coach, I expect the club the and the coach look at the current situation and talk about the budget. Rudan had the money to bring new players add backroom staff etc. Now, suddenly, there is not enough investment from the club. I can't see after all the praise how much helped he got to focus on coaching the professionalism he installed, why all this all suddenly changed. I thinks he did just a great job, to lift us from an expected wooden spoon best case 9th place to the 5th spot. Maybe the club screwed him over.

Anyway, the damage is done, we went from a decent on field season to another unprofessional communication disaster. They should all sign proper NDA's shut their mouth and keep interviews professional, all this family talk, contract leaks is just unnecessary crap I don't care.

I can't wait how they try to spin the story in the presser today.

Don't go falling for the bullshark.

The owners have spent plenty on a squad that is competitive.  The 'investment' stuff is Rudan engineering his exit and giving a big fudge you to the people that gave him a chance and a more than competitive A-League budget. Sure we're not spending like Victory or Sydney or blatantly flaunting the salary cap like Perth but the idea that WelNix have not spent on players simply doesn't add up this season or last.

The rest of the A-League is sniffing around most of our squad so the assertion that it's some bargain basement squad is just rubbish.

Chuck in the largest youth set-up of any A-League club, an increase in office staff this season and what it comes down to is Rudan doesn't walk the professionalism walk that he talks.

Rudan can fudge off for all I care

14 Apr 22:05

The Phoenix squad might be cheaper than it's competitiveness shows but that's because half of it is home grown through the academy. At the start of the season we were sniffing around at players like Eto'o, Martins, Rossi, etc. Big names, we didn't get them because the A-League didn't have them in the same class as Honda, which for Eto'o and Rossi is pretty insane.

It sounds like he knows how to make friends and influence pundits. Paul Ifill is another one in that category.

I think the football pundits are forgetting that we have just over 12 months left on a license with the FFA. They all seem to be confident that an independent league will be the life saver for the club - they seem to be ignoring the clear indication that the lower league clubs are calling for our axing.

The FFA have shown for 15 years they couldn't give a shark what the state league clubs think.

That is a bit of a simplification. As far as I can gather, the current state of play on new league negotiations is that the State federations and the FFA are saying to the 9 Aussie A-League clubs: "you can have more money, or you can have those fudging Kiwis, choose but choose wisely". The real issue at this stage is the continued uncertainty which prevents WelNix from making serious investments in our club. Even if we do survive and get a semi-permanent licence, next year is going to suck because no players and no facilities. It may or may not get better after that.

Kinda wish it wasn't Piney interviewing Domey. He has a lot of conflicts of interest with the club.
14 Apr 23:30

Rudan has done a great job, but surely what he has shown the A-League is that there is tremendous potential for a successful club in NZ so long as there is a bit of off field leadership.  Whether the A-League and other interested bodies in Australia want a successful club in NZ is another story.

Originally we were going to be dumped because we were too weak.  Now it's looking like that might not actually be the point at all.

Family 1st...but would you sign him if you're not a Sydney Club?

14 Apr 23:43

WEW, can't wait for another rebuild. Cant wait for us to announce a coach 1 month before the next season starts, cant wait for us to not have enough squad players until week 1 of the comp. Cant wait for us to sign some crap lower league aussies to fill vital positions and pretend that they're "quality".

Cheers Mark, 5th is better than 9th but its nothing special. Im sure the FFA have asked you and the players you're taking with you to lose in the first round of the play-offs, so you can all concentrate on a good pre-season for their precious new WSW style project.

I wish someone at the phoenix had some cojones.

I guess Greenie will be in for another stint as interim manager.....or maybe Eugene Dadi.....or Daniel.....or Tony Lochead since thats how high we aim.

The press release says that Mark will coach until the end of the season. You'd hope, with all the speculation, the team has been talking to coaches like Kurz.

Would you rather the GM of the club come out with some negative bullshark about the future of the club? At the end of the day the club needs a new coach, so I'd rather the people involved were excited about it instead of not giving a shark.
