All joking aside, if he is unwell (in a body way or in a brain way), I suggest YF give him a big box of chocolates or perhaps a small banner at the next game. Unless of course the illness is diabetes.

All the best man. Whatever it is can't be much fun, if it is keeping you from playing football.

Regardless of peoples opinions of Mirjan Pavlovic he was still a Phoenix player, and we love them!

Cheers Mirjan and good luck in your recovery!

Was never a big fan of his.  But whatever it is, I hope he gets well again soon.  Best wishes

Professionally, I'm not disappointed to see him never wear a Phoenix shirt ever again. He was not good enough.

Outside of the football context, no one wishes an affliction (or whatever) on anyone so get better soon.

Grumpy old bastard alert

1) I hope not to see anymore uninformed speculation about what may or may not be his medical issue.

2) Although I am not at all a fan of him playing for the Phoenix, I do not wish this sort of thing to occur to anyone, and wish him a full recovery from whatever it is that is afflicting him - Good luck Pav.

Sounds bad.  Poor guy.  I wish him all the best.  I do like him as a player.  I like his enthusiasm and his effort, and think he also shows hints of real talent.

Thats the thing, I think he has frustrated people more than he has been outright poor. You see glimpses of his talent, but it just hasn't quite come through.

Hopefully all is good with him.

Not a fan. "Happy" if he is out of the team. But wish him all the best with whatever is going on. Nothing personal.

Permalink Permalink

Hmm I'd rather him be able to play, and improve to the point of pushing a spot in the team.

He is a Wellington Phoenix player. You could be happy if we didn't re-sign him, I'd understand that, but to be happy he is out with a mysterious condition doesn't make much sense. No matter how much you wish him all the best.

I hope it isn't something serious/ life threatening... such a young man
if he is need of calcium, i hear a certain elder player in the league is also lacking and seems to be performing quite well

best of luck with the recovery

Oh and my money is on Pav having a Michael Flattley-style sex addiction!!!

This is puzzling, feel sorry for the lad whatever it might be. Obviously has his heart set on a professional football career so if this has ended it he must be devastated

On the speculation front, I wasn't monitoring threads when he first went on loan to this league in Sydney - how was that announced or how did that come about? Is it possible he went there for some sort of treatment and to be with friends/family, but was still able to play football on the side?

Clutching at straws perhaps but just a thought

My thoughts on the latest news:

a) All the best for your recovery, Pav!

b) Whatever the mystery illness is, it hasn't stopped him from playing in Aus until quite recently. So perhaps he's been unwell recently and tests showed he is unwell?

c) Don't really think any sort of mental illness would stop him from playing.

d) Why did the club release a statement about this if they're not going to let the public know what is happening? Conspiracy theorists will say the Club has given him a golden handshake and told him he's not part of the team anymore.

Anyway, I thought Pav had his moments (good and bad), and I've always felt our playing style never really suited him.

This being said, he's never set the world on fire either.

I really hope for your sake that his "mystery condition" is not Pyromania!!!

Sorry NZP, I've got to pull you up on point c) there. There are plenty of reasons why mental illness might stop someone playing. Have 10 years of NZ watching John Kirwan wander down the beach in linen pants writing HOPE in the sand with a stick achieved nothing??

However, I agree that I'm not sure the Nix have done the right thing here. That short statement will only lead to speculation, and it doesn't sound to me like the club are trying to "support" or "protect" Pavlovic as much as just bury the whole story. In fact, that statement makes me think that whatever it is they are pretty pissed about it (not even a mention of "the club wishes Mirjan well" or " the club is supporting Mirjan at this time").

On the other hand, most of the speculation will be confined to this forum so maybe that's the best way to keep it quiet.

Regardless, all the best to Mirjan.

I'm with Mike- I don't think this is one of those things to be speculating over. It's not team selection or transfers. It's obviously a difficult topic that doesn't require the Paston v Moss debate treatment.

90% of sport is mental.  Crazy bastards. In all seriousness though, the hardest thing to overcome as an athelete is usually the mental battle. If you've got anything going on whether it's an illness or just something clouding your thoughts it effects you massively. You see it every day in sports world wide. So to say a mental illness would not prevent him playing/performing is completely wrong.

Fuck this stupid game

I've got it!

Pavlovic moves on loan to Sydney United who, for those who don't know, are based in Western Sydney.

Ahmad Elrich is now living in Western Sydney.

Tarek Elrich, who was a team mate of Mirjan's at Newcastle Jest, has also moved to Western Sydney to play for the Unicorns.

Therefore Mirjan Pavlovic and the Elrich brothers have formed a Lebo-Yugo crime syndicate!!!

Yeah he is the small part of me that likes to throw flares and have fights at the tennis! We don't see him too often though!

Agree with NZP here as his own mental and physical illnesses have never stopped him from trying to play ;)

It is a shame when a young player faces a situation like this, however I do agree that he never really stood out much as a player. Hopefully Pav can spend some time recovering and come back better and make a real go of it.
