Looks like they have lost Archie now. Not sure it is was career ending but way he went off I'd be surprised if he was back for start of the season

Update, I'd say he is out now.

http://www.a-league.com.au/article/archie-thompson...

Interesting thought and I wonder if anyone knows, if Victory sign a injury replacement for Archie but with some of his salary being outside the cap with the new longer term player rule. Does that mean they can only sign up to what was the cap or use his whole salary including what was outside the cap?

This is a great question and exposes these silly little loop holes they have created by ideas like this.

If he is on a long term player rule, the question I would ask is how can you sign a replacement player to an exemption is is not eligible for?
In the case of a marquee, you can design another player as a marquee, move him outside the cap and then sign a replacement. Its not so easy when its a player of long service.

Lets say Durante is a long term player designate and blows his knee out and he is done for the season and the Phoenix want to sign 1 of Michael Eager/James Musa/Luke Adams as his replacement. They would not be eligible for that exemption as they are not long service players thus breaking that rule in the salary cap.

What if Archie is conveniently "injured" for the season and the replacement player signed is, lets say for the sake of proving my point, Tim Cahill, a superior player...? How is that fair?

I think what you find with this new rule is not the whole salary outside the cap like a marquee, but it does seem to present problems when you have a case like this and have to look for an injury replacement and they aren't a long service player.

Sad way to go if it is indeed the end. Was always a player I enjoyed watching.

As much as we dislike him , Fans from the people's democratic republic of Tardistan love him.  Think of the regard Ifill was held in, then multiply by about 5

So not a ACL or career ending.

Still interested in what Victory will do about injury cover.

Except against us as he seemed to score quite regularly much to my annoyance. But realistically, considering his age and even though you might only get 70 mins from him, he still now, had a great turn of speed and a good shot. Respect for that.

Victory manage to grab a late 1–1 draw against Juventus with their goal coming from Jai Ingham. It was mostly a Juventus reserve side as many of Juventus' best players are being rested after the Euros.

Absolute banger of a goal from Juventus Primavera centre-back Carlos Blanco Moreno:

Sounds like Austin and a 16 yr old kid, Sebastian Pasquali were rather impressive for them.

Yeah, I applaud the guts of that young lad to go up and score the winning penalty.

Tards score first. Headed in by Ansell from a free kick in a corner like position.

They have lost a lot of quality and havent replaced it all yet. They still need a proper #10 to replace Finkler, maybe they see Troisi slotting in there. But it was a very solid effort this far out from the season starting.

"The recommended constraints for this season are:

  • No flags
  • No banners
  • Current NT leaders out
  • Facial recognition
  • Active supporters only able to enter the ground via a designated gate
  • Increased use of undercover police
  • Increased use sniffer dogs to detect flares"

Some of this goes too far in my mind.

The podcast is worth a listen 27 mins in. I think the North Terrace guy makes some valid points.

Somethings gotta change, but getting rid of flags and banners is ridiculous. NT leaders my need to go, but only if they were involved in SMFC brawl or flares. I'm iffy on facial recognition, too. In fact, no! All off this is total bullshark! Except the gate bit. If they can regulate that, awesome.

No need for facial recognition as they spend most of their time with their backs to the game anyway.
