If we didn't get Ernie, I would have loved to have had Trani here. Having attended practices at the time, he was the brains behind our good runs. As much as I like Ricki as a guy, it was Trani running things at training.

Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

Jets injury woes deepen with Boogaard ruled out for at least 6 weeks.

I really feel for guys like Grant Furner and Michael Body who have put their heart and soul into running the Squadron over the past few years.

To be honest though the FFA gives zero fudges about Active Support even though they are happy to use images and footage of supporter groups in most of their advertising.

I see the Jest a one loss away from bettering the Knights piss poor record of results.  Here's hoping they achieve it so a kiwi sporting blight is removed from the likes of Wikipedia.

Unfortunately it is not the loss record they are close to beating from the Knights (currently on 5 in a row - 2 home and 3 away) but they are drawing the most goals conceded without scoring record, so if they get scored against first on Saturday by Sydney they will take that record off the Knights. NZK still hold

  • Most consecutive losses: 11, New Zealand Knights (18 September 2005 – 26 November 2005)
  • Most consecutive home losses: 7, New Zealand Knights (2 September 2005 – 26 November 2005)
  • Most consecutive away losses: 9, New Zealand Knights (8 January 2006 – 26 November 2006),

So, who could replace Jones?

The usual names being thrown around atm, Rudan, Mulvey & Merrick.

Socceroos icon Harry Kewell headlines a long list of hopefuls for the vacant Newcastle Jets coaching job, with the club vowing to unveil the successor to Mark Jones within three weeks.

Former Leeds and Liverpool star Kewell, 38, was dismissed from his role as Premier League Watford's under-23s chief last week, after a run of poor results.

But, having previously done well with the Hornets' under-21s, Kewell is being seriously considered for what would be a maiden senior coaching gig following the sacking of rookie coach Jones.

Despite the appeal of Kewell's star power, former Melbourne Victory and Wellington coach Ernie Merrick is believed to be the strong front-runner.

Well, if Ernie pulls the Jets ahead of us, that would only leave CCM and Adelaide as potential wooden spoon rivals, unless Perth or WSW feel like it.

Hilarious article. The quote has 95% about Kewell and the link says Kewell headlines candidates job. Then, painfully, actual journalism kicks in with Ernie the "strong front runner."

Ernie had a better squad here and failed to do anything with it, so if he managed to get the Jets ahead of us I guess that is an indictment of our playing squad.

Maybe the reason for Jets malady was their coach, not their squad - in other words, maybe anybody might do better than Mark Jones?

Jones may have been a poor coach and contributed to the Jets drop off at the end of the season but if you look at their squad, is there anyone that you would actually want at the Phoenix? If Ernie managed to get them above us, a few of our players should have a real look at themselves in the mirror.

Yeah very sad, appears they will still be doing what they do as a supporters group. Just not active member with the club and FFA anymore.
