Melbourne Heart this morning confirmed that celebrated Socceroo veteran Vince Grella will join the club on a one-year contract.

Grella is due to arrive in Melbourne on Saturday, as his new teammates fly west for a clash with Perth Glory. The 33-year-old defensive midfielder was a mainstay of the national during team during its glory years when Australia made the 2006 and 2010 World Cup finals under Guus Hiddink and Pim Verbeek.

The Leo tacle was a digrace but there were some others in that game from him and others that shouldn't be forgotten as well.

Did he not send Tim Brown flying through the air too?

I believe so, before Cahill broke him.  Bresciano came close to kicking Leo in the face as well.

They were a disgrace from front to back.  Good weekend on the hammer though.

Quite frankly if that f*ckjamtard does show up in Wgtn, There'll be some extremely unsporting behaviour and language ...from Aisle 23.
Possibly even from some of the younger supporters too.
He's a blot on the game.

To me personally, I think Leo was a changed man after that tackle. He was never the same - he stopped running at players and seemed generally scared of 50-50's. That infamous 'friendly' game was a joke. Brown out for the WC and the Greek Orthodox God saving Leo's leg from snapping in half.

Very interesting point that about Leo's change in form from that point. Obviously that's pretty speculative, but it's a least a very interesting coincidence. Was that about the point he started losing his pace as well?

It was weird because aussie came into that game so fired up, like they had a massive point to prove, but yet we hadn't played them for ages

To be honest I don't know. All I can remember was thinking that Leo was one of the best wingers I'd ever seen in this part of the world, and then after that injury I noticed he was a different player - less confident, less initiative, and generally more subdued. Then as you say it's all speculation, so who knows..

I agree completely with you. His form slump started after that tackle, and he's only started to regain his form before that in the last couple of months. Grella will certainly cop it from the Fever if he shows up here.

I've always thought Leo hadnt been the same, but he was linked to Werder Bremen that year... ;)

There are rumours about David Carney joining them, so probably has been pushed for salary cap space.

Neither of them will solve the issues that side has.

Does the Victory ever sign players to fix problems? They haven't had a balanced side for a few seasons now.  Only hope they have of trying to fix their CB issue, would be Spiranovic or Ognenovski getting released in Qatar.

More big name overseas stars could be following Alessandro Del Piero, Emile Heskey and Shinji Ono to the A-League, with huge money on the table to help secure marquee deals.
Football Federation Australia has already helped to subsidise the Del Piero and Heskey deals, using their marketing budget in return for promotional opportunities with the European stars.

Now the A-League clubs say they have been told that they can apply for further funds, with a total pool of between $500,000 and $1 million believed to be available to underwrite overseas signings of sufficient calibre.

Wonder if that would be open to us? Not that we would go out and get a huge name.

Wonder if Fyfe or McKain will get a release from Adelaide to join Tards?

Thats very interesting. Mainly because we have said we wont get a big name money draining signing, but if someone else is gonna pay for it, then why not?

Rumours of Hernandez to AUFC.... from January onwards.

A bunch of people on twitter have jumped on the fact the @gomvfc have followed Jade North's account in the last 24 hours. Investigative journalism at it's finest.

Ray Gatt @Gatty54

Ok...seems there was plenty of smoke but no fire re Jade North and Melb Victory. Holger wants him to stay in Japan. Watch this space.

Bah, would have been loltastic to see him at the Victory. Watching him try to pass the ball out from the back would make the loads of clips for the end of season blooper reel.

They've signed goalkeeper Nathan Coe instead it would appear.

Poor old Flappi. Ousted by a youth keeper for the first 2 games, then has a decent game when called on and they go sign another keeper.

Velaphi never been good enough for a number 1 though.

Think if they could get McKain in from the pissants then they would start to be taking shape. Milligan at DM is key I feel

Kewell to Perth on a guest stint?

Tom Atkinson @Atkinson_Tom

Can confirm @PerthGloryFC Tony Sage met with HARRY KEWELL in Melbourne today. A loan period was discussed #aleague #perth

Ok i know i got technical term wrong. Just meant short term deal rather than full contract #kewell

Would be awesome if it were to happen, would completely throw the dynamic of the Perth team off and they will start losing again.

Quotes from Sage along the lines of "our list is full, but that's not a problem because the FFA will help us out because they helped out SFC and WWF so they should do the same for us".

I called this wrongly earlier, this is a very slippery slope we're going down now...

With the team they have got they don't need him anyway.
