Quotes from Sage along the lines of "our list is full, but that's not a problem because the FFA will help us out because they helped out SFC and WWF so they should do the same for us".

I called this wrongly earlier, this is a very slippery slope we're going down now...

I like the way Sage put this - a subtle dig at how flimsy the rules can be if it benefits the FFA. He's pretty much saying - "The FFA have to allow us to break the rules and sign Harry, otherwise shit might go down"

Sage is just stirring the pot here...

FFA has said Kewell can sign as a guest player, but Sage still says:

"We have a full list of 23 players.

"He wants to play again and money is not going to be an issue. We just can't fit him in, even as a guest player.

"Harry knows the problem we have and understands that.

I wouldn't touch either of them with a barge pole to be honest.

That's the bugger who stole an equaliser in the 94th minute against us at RoF. Still only 25 so a good chance to re-establish himself in the league.

Did the Jets sign a cover for their two injured keepers?

Also, are they seriously gonna keep Nash on their books??

Haven't seen anything announced. I don't think he is as bad a keeper as people think, the Jets have done well when he has been called up. He has played 7 & 1/2 games and only conceded in 3 of those games, with only 2 of them resulting in losses.

[Edit: that's his stats before the game on the weekend, so that is more goals conceded and another loss.]

THE cash Brisbane Roar were considering splashing out for David Beckham will instead be used to bolster the area where the champions are most vulnerable the centre of defence.

Roar vice-chairman Chris Fong yesterday told The Courier-Mail that the club's owners, rich Indonesian business conglomerate the Bakrie Group, were willing to open their purse strings to aid rookie head coach Rado Vidosic.

The article suggest they might look at Dino Djulbic in January and consider selling Paartalu & Nichols.

Will probably be about Socceroo's WC qualifiers. Same thing popped up a couple weeks ago saying Major announcement in Melbourne at 12, then they just announced that a qualifier will be played there.

They do rather like to overuse the term 'major announcement'

I'm getting sick of FFA spending money on all sorts of things, when they could instead spend half as much and focus on getting the refereeing standards up to scracth.

Does appear to be the case, wonder if it will be the 'A-League All Stars' or a club side.

I do chuckle that people suggest that professional refs will magically change the fact that the referees just have no grasp of or feel for the game.

Paying them to be shit.

They probably mean bringing good referees on from overseas. Which would work in the short term, then be worse off in the long term.

not a bad signing. frees up adp to play behind a striker which is probably what suits him best. If emmo can hit some form, then they do have a pretty decent side really. Not enough depth.

I'm not saying to start paying them, more like invest in the next generation of refs, with fulltime training etc.

ADP, Emo, Culina, Griffiths - how can they do this within the salary cap?

By not having much depth. Culina was a gamble and had his big pay out from palmer/FFA, so should be cheapish. They also freed up some cash by getting rid of Petratos.

If they can keep everyone fit that now looks like a pretty decent side - but that's a big if

Normo's coming home

pretty decent lineup:

     Culina Antonis
Emerton ADP    Yau
           Griffiths

Wonder if they will look to offload Lovrek. He has been having off field problems & hasn't set the world on fire on it. He didn't even make the trip over to face us.

This is a valid question.  ADP - Marquee.  Emo - Aus marquee. Culina - in the cap.  Unless Griffiths is on a guest stint I don't see how they do it as he's used to a chinese wage.  Of course, there is every chance the FFA will change the rules for them as they do with most Australian sides.

This is assuming he is the signing.

Doubt CCM could afford one of ADP's boots tbh. That Russian take over has been ongoing for about 2 seasons?

Pre J Griffiths I seem to remember reading somewhere we were at ~ 85 of the cap %.

MIKE Mulvey has made his first tough call as head coach of the Brisbane Roar, releasing Yuji Takahashi's from his loan spell at the A-League club.

The young defender was boarding a flight back to Japan on Christmas morning, while his former teammates added the finishing touches to their preparation for the Roar's next assignment away against Adelaide United.
