ownership groups should not be able to own more than one club. And this is one of the reasons why. Loopholes.

"City remains interested in Anthony Caceres, who could join on loan from parent club Manchester City after signing from Central Coast, though he would take up $300,000 of the salary cap under new parent club/loan regulations."

Guessing because its a January deal, it would only be a 150k cap hit. So they might release Williams then combine his saved salary cap with Gameiro's IR cap and use that to loan in Caceres at 150k salary cap.

If Melbourne City want to get rid of a player who stubbornly wants a payout rather than mutual termination then they can just sell him to the city group, i.e. get rid of a player that otherwise won't go and free up the cap space. Another loop hole.

Wouldn't he have to agree to the sale?

You know we belong together...

And can we sell fans to other fans groups??

Of course - but say you have a player taking up 200k of the cap space, say he is on the wrong side of 30 and won't be able to get a gig elsewhere or would go at a reduced rate. You need him to leave by mutual agreement to free up that 200k, but why would he leave if he knew he couldn't get a gig on the same terms anywhere else? So you say to him, well you can keep getting paid but you have to train by yourself and won't get any game time or you can take 200k and be brought by the city group. If you didn't have the city group to buy him for 200k you would never be able to free up that cap space.

I'd back city to be able to flog you off to another club for nothing too. Or, all they'd then do is release the player immediately. So many loopholes

Yeah could totally see that happening: Williams doesn't want to mutually terminate his contract, freeing up the remainder of this contract with Melb City, Man City just 'purchase' Williams and then Man City can terminate the contract they have with Williams. Melb City have just gotten around the salary cap, Williams gets the remainder of his contract and free to pursue his career elsewhere - win, win for CFG and Williams, not so much the HAL.

This could have huge implications. City Football Group under the guise of Melb City get a lot of decent players under multi year contracts - though only pay them enough to fit under the cap then Man City purchase the players and pay the outstanding fee negotiated with the CFG.

37 years old. Hasn't played in a year - and then it was in India.

This just seems like such a weird signing to me.

What 3 clubs for Taggart?

Fulham, Dundee and ?

Surely Perth could be the third.

Edit: scratch that... seems like the rule is that you can register for three but only play for two. Or something like that!

Craig Moore the latest Brisbane Roar casualty. Released from his contract and now likely to join Scottish club St Johnstone.

He follows Charlie Miller and Liam Reddy out the Brisbane door.

Also, John Tambouras and Matt Smith have re-signed for the Fury until end of 2011/12 season.

Ange Postecoglu is the worst coaching appointment in A-League history.

Speaking of which... Lolz

Nah, Real are banned from making transfers for a while due to dodgy dealings.

Better make it PSG

Barca still signed players while under a transfer embargo

I suppose Real could do the same, but rather than having the players only involved in training have them loaned to us.

Perth Glory FC can confirm it has signed exciting Australian U-17 attacking-midfielder Kosta Petratos for the next 18 months.

The club can also confirm it has extended the contract of young Perth born defender Aryn Williams until the end of next season.

Meantime the club can confirm it has parted ways with defender Antony Golec, who has signed with FC Sheriff Tiraspol in Moldova.

What's wrong with the Caceres deal?

Many players transfer between A-League clubs mid-season.

Normally there is no fee.

This way CCM get some cash off Manchester City.

Who's the loser here (assuming Melbourne B aren't breaking the salary cap ...)?

the other 9 clubs who aren't allowed to pay transfer fees between clubs for players. I don't mind people saying "good on city" but for fairness sake you need to either close the loophole, or scrap the "no transfer" rule. I'm in favour of scrapping it personally, it seems to me to be one of those legacy rules that is past its date of usefulness.

I can see both sides of it.

The best way out of a financial hole for clubs like CCM and Newcastle is to sell players. Who is going to buy them? The only teams with cash that would pay are Melbourne, Melbourne and Sydney. CCM and Newcastle wont want to sell them cheap so then you have a situation of a club selling a player they may not want to sell but are also not prepared to sell him cheap and the only clubs that could pay over the line are 3.

Its an antiquated rule I agree but the there is also the other side of it which *could* skew the competition even further.

Grumpy old bastard alert
