Losing Smeltz isn't the end of the world.
Man U supporters thought that when Beckham left, but some one else filled his boots.
Same again when Van Nistelroy left.
Same will happen when C Ronaldo eventually goes to Madrid.
We aren't Man U, granted, but the principles are still the same.

Re Smeltzy being our saviour, he may yet still prove to be a 1.5 season wonder, and he's perhaps no more than just the good apple in a bad bunch.

Life will go on, I just hope that the Phoenix will turn their season around while we still have his services so we can attract players from a position of relative strength as opposed to perenial wooden spooners.
Thing is, 90% of pro footballers wouldn't think twice when offered a United contract, but a lot of persuasion and persiatance is needed to get a decent player to come to an isolated team at the bottom of the table in the Aleague that's playing bad football and is getting downwards of 7k crowds turning up and these numbers are dwindling.
You know we belong together...

I can see this transfer being similar to van Nistelrooy's move to real (although it wasn't his choice) Anyway, now lets dump covs and build a new strike unit featuring Costa and other fast players.

Honestly Costa was so sh*te on the weekend - had no impact at all! I say sign Brockie instead!

He wasn't sh*t, he bought a bit of pace and flare. ACtually made some off the ball runs, which is the difference between the phoenix and the U17 Girls (Go them)

Rukavystya, FYI. He wouldn't leave Glory just for another A-League club IMO.

Ok. Smeltz, thanks for the great goals and everything. i don't like it but what ya going to do? I'll still be keeping the 'smeltzfan1' because he has done more than enough to earn that no matter what he does. He was always going to leave one day i just hoped it would be to the championship or smoewhere in europe. i wonder how he's going to feel walking into the ROF whenever the next home game is.
Au Revior Smeltzy.

Yes..

I see i have quite different views to other people on here. Next time i might just keep the more extreme ones to myself

There is no denying he would be excellent but you have to be realistic.  He's not likely to stay in the A-League and even if he does he isn't going to cross the Tasman.

You just copped my wrath as there had been a run of idiots on keyboards prior to that (BBW, come on down).

Also (like Costa) he is contracted to the end of next season.

Don't stress mate. I think once Ruka develops a bit he'll be great and he's a fave of mine. I'd be pumped if he came to the 'nix as well, just saying he's more likely to go to Europe if he gets good enough.

Edit - also apparently hes contracted to Glory for another year, cheers HN :)aussienixfan2008-11-05 19:37:38

I reckon we should praise smeltzy for the rest of the year just to make him feel guilty. Then next season we rip him to pieces.

"I reckon we should praise smeltzy for the rest of the year just to make him feel guilty. Then next season we rip him to pieces."

My thoughts exactly. I'll love the man with all my heart until mid-January...

Then after that we truly have a club rival.

If we shred him to pieces whiles he's playing for Gold Coast, then what will we do if he plays at the ROF with the All Whites, love him temporarily or still shred him.

My view is that I hope he goes well at Gold Coast, but just plays like sh*t when he plays us.

IMHO, love him temporarily. Same deal as Leo got last year - we cheered for him for NZ vs Vanuatu, cheered against him for Nix vs Glory.

My take on Smeltz and the reaction to his departure:

Bit behind the times I know but I've had a busy few days. Let me know what you think :)

On a similar note, why is it Jason Pine's FFT blogs get on the YF front page but mine don't?
And I'm not in the mood for anyone to say its because they're sh*t.

Not sure who had a crack, but these decisions aren't always made by the player.
Steve Price is a great example. There was no way he was going to go to Auckland because his wife was dead set against coming to NZ. What did the Warriors do? They flew her across and wined and dined her at the best places possible and worked entirely on selling Auckland to her. Price signed the next week.
Clearly Shane's decision isn't just his and not entirely football based. Fair enough

It kind of puts things in some perspective.  I am a massive Steve Price fan for all the traits and leadership he offers, let alone his playing ability... The thing I despise about this situation is that Shane said to Pignata that he hadn't signed.  It all seems a bit of a hush hush job when Gold Coast were announcing it or at least it was going through the Gold Coast media at the same time when you hope he's being honest to his current employer and at that time he's saying it's not true he has not signed.  It just seems a bit sus that he had already made the decision but was pulling Pignata's and the Phoenix's pubes in not being completely honest.

That's the disappointing aspect for me.

PS:  Are you sure Jo Price was against coming to NZ?  I know the Warriors flew her across and invited her to the player's wife's box at a game and wined and dined her, but I was not under the impression she was ever against it, she was just curious about what lifestyle she could give to her kids here.

. Why not ask one of the yellow fever mods to put links to them on the main page?

doesn't writing blogs about the nix for 442 require you to be proactive?

Yeah, I'd noticed that too. But I guess it is because 442 is a professional mag/website and so they assume it will necessarily be of a high standard, whereas ours could be sh*t. Though I'd hope that's not the case. It'd be cool if they did though.
