Well sounds like it's been a 12 month DD/negotiation process.

So it either happens or they have completely fooled WU, the APL, the local Council and all the numerous consultants who no doubt got to listen in. Hopefully the cheques don't bounce

Hardly surprising they got touched up in the semi. Morale can’t be the best.

Has to be said, I'm glad tthe Nix do not have these kinds of back office dramas to worry about. Even during the Seripisous years I think we managed to always pay the players on time.

I don't think everyone was paid at the end of the Terry years, might have just been Ricki that wasn't being paid - but I remember the press asking Lloyd if he was going to pay the wages that Century City Football Group owed.

key part of that is that it was the manager not being paid a it was at the end of Terry's tenure.

Here we go again.

Only one 27 year old at Western & he didn't play a game. There are a number of 24 year olds but only 1 with a ton of yellow cards. Would be rather disappointing if it was him tho.

Perhaps this is prejudice speaking, but I don't think it's coincidence that Western United has followed Macarthur in this

You really have to wonder about those in charge of the APL. Its not as if those guys dodgy background was a secret. There was plenty of stuff posted before they were given the okay.

According to that article the PFA lodged breach notices for several players on June 20 that allows the players to void their contracts if their wages aren't paid in 14 days - so that'd be next Friday, the 4th of July.

If payment doesn't happen, it'll be interesting to see which players become free agents - and also interesting to see where they'd end up

Give me Ibusuki, Grimaldi & Leonard. Thanks.

WesternUnited made an AU$11 million loss last season and have AU$55 million in debt.

To put that into perspective, when asking for Covid funding the Phoenix said their income before covid was NZ$7.6 million and their costs were NZ$8.6. Although I'd hope that Phoenix income and budget have both gone up since then, it seems like Western United is loosing more per season than the Phoenix spend. Imagine what their budget is.

that must be driven by the development of their home ground and training facilities.

APL annual disbursements per club, have in that time gone from over $3M per season down to $530K. So the Nix's annual income may actually have fallen since pre Covid.

Plus since 2020 the ALW team has started up, and the Academy further expanded. I'm guessing there is more FTE at the club now than 2020.
Luckily Rob M's Infratil have done okay the last few years.

Just as the ACT Govt has bailed out the Canberra ALW team for the time being, I wouldn't be surprised if the VIctorian Govt prop up Western United short term in need. Western Melbs is a big growth corridor and the State Govt plus Wyndham Council will really want that new 15K stadium to happen, and WU to survive as the major tenant.

The commentators in the WU verus Sydney Australia Cup game, seemed bullish WU's new ownership setup (dodgy or not) would be sorted soon.

Isn’t it all a bit more complicated however with this club, with real estate development also part of the deal?

It'd be interesting to know how long until they've paid off their training ground they built and play at? Should help financially once it's paid off.

But the story of this club goes to show just how hard it is to run a club, and try to own your own infrastructure. Nearly impossible...
08 Aug 03:57
Bit confused how it's Football Australia that can boot them out, when I thought the APL now ran both ALM & ALW.

Will the VIC Govt/Wyndham Council step in to try save the club. ACT Govt has with Canberra United (ALW)?
08 Aug 04:02
Honestly, for all the hate they've received I've actually genuinely enjoyed having them around the place.

That said, carrying $55 million dollars of debt as an A-League club is absolutely inexcusable.

And all the other stuff that has come out of the club of late, well I wouldn't call it a snowball, I'd say it's been more of an avalanche!
08 Aug 04:03
That club was cursed from the very start. (The curse was Marko Rudan.)
