So it either happens or they have completely fooled WU, the APL, the local Council and all the numerous consultants who no doubt got to listen in. Hopefully the cheques don't bounce

If payment doesn't happen, it'll be interesting to see which players become free agents - and also interesting to see where they'd end up
Understand that the majority of Western United’s men’s and women’s players have been paid their wages, with the last few outstanding being processed. Staff in the process of being paid, too.

To put that into perspective, when asking for Covid funding the Phoenix said their income before covid was NZ$7.6 million and their costs were NZ$8.6. Although I'd hope that Phoenix income and budget have both gone up since then, it seems like Western United is loosing more per season than the Phoenix spend. Imagine what their budget is.

APL annual disbursements per club, have in that time gone from over $3M per season down to $530K. So the Nix's annual income may actually have fallen since pre Covid.
Plus since 2020 the ALW team has started up, and the Academy further expanded. I'm guessing there is more FTE at the club now than 2020.
Luckily Rob M's Infratil have done okay the last few years.
Just as the ACT Govt has bailed out the Canberra ALW team for the time being, I wouldn't be surprised if the VIctorian Govt prop up Western United short term in need. Western Melbs is a big growth corridor and the State Govt plus Wyndham Council will really want that new 15K stadium to happen, and WU to survive as the major tenant.
The commentators in the WU verus Sydney Australia Cup game, seemed bullish WU's new ownership setup (dodgy or not) would be sorted soon.

It'd be interesting to know how long until they've paid off their training ground they built and play at? Should help financially once it's paid off.
But the story of this club goes to show just how hard it is to run a club, and try to own your own infrastructure. Nearly impossible...

Will the VIC Govt/Wyndham Council step in to try save the club. ACT Govt has with Canberra United (ALW)?
That said, carrying $55 million dollars of debt as an A-League club is absolutely inexcusable.
And all the other stuff that has come out of the club of late, well I wouldn't call it a snowball, I'd say it's been more of an avalanche!
