On the plus point, Creep Rudan would be unemployed. :D

Agree, it is not good for the competition when the club fails.

It wouldn't be good on a number of fronts.

It’s funny until you realise how catastrophic the flow on effects could be for the nix.

Allegedly

Like what? If the latest addition to the league falls over before they even get on the pitch, doesn't it make a financially stable team like the Nix even more valuable?

If they're financially unstable, will the owners' group be keen to take over the league and potentially have to prop them up themselves? It brings a new layer of risk that they would need to consider as part of the independent league discussions.

If they fail before the new season starts, is there a triggering clause in the contract with Fox which would give them the opportunity to re-negotiate the TV deal (and any re-negotiation in this context would likely mean less money for the league from Fox)?

These are not the kind of questions you want occupying the APFCA minds in the midst of NLWG discussions if you're a Nix fan.

In the new league scenario, WU, if not solvent, is given the axe and another owner/group/club that is solvent takes their place. While not ideal, there is no need to prop up a failing entity if there are others able to step in.

Yep that's the plan once the league is presumably up and running. But in the context of current commercial agreements, that is more easily said and done. You don't really want to kick off the whole thing with an FFA albatross hung around your neck.

Ownership[edit]

It was revealed in February 2019 that Birmingham Sports Holdings had initially funded the bid's license fee before pulling out of the project due to a down turn in the Australian housing market that devalued the intended housing developments to be built in the same area as their new stadium.[15][16]

After their withdrawal from the project, local property developer Aziz Kheir took over as owner.[12][13]

Owner Maurice Bisetto, Steve Horvat, Jason Sourasis, Levent Shevki, John Tripodi and Lou Sticca

With today's signing of Vujica from Newy I'd say thats probably the end of Aussie recruitment for the Bitumens. Brings their squad size to 19 with 4 import spots left, they'd be mad not to use them too given how their team has shaped up so far. I know they have a few good players but looking at that it doesn't exactly strike fear into anyone.

Edit: 3 import spots

No way Durante starts ahead of Gulum.

24 Jun 04:25

Isn't Kone an import as well as Kurto.

So they only have 3 visa spots left ?

Yes, my bad. Wrote that and then afterwards realised I had forgotten about keepers and added Kurto, it should've said 3 imports left.

Maybe, has Gulum played at all (competitively - not counting back garden games) since leaving Adelaide at the end of 17/18?

Lots of competition, and wouldn't be surprised if Chapman plays in defence if visa signings are made in midfield.

24 Jun 05:49

Gulum has been playing state league, some guys on reddit saying poorly.

Also, he wasn't all that hot when playing for Adelaide.

24 Jun 07:36

Who gives a shark who plays where for them. I realize its the off season but come on.

They're even stealing our origin story with a building investor - is Terry going to pop up next?

I must say, their kits look good on though (I say through gritted teeth). I actually don't mind the away.

Excerpt from what may be a WUFC Roadshow/Newsletter Edit - Room was full. Maybe 200 in attendance.

"The stadium will be 15,000 capacity and they’re still saying it will be ready for season 3.

Is future proofed for something like 4-6 thousand extra seats if expansion is necessary.

The stadium will have safe standing for active support and has the steepest stands in the country.

The train station will be 500m away from the ground but won’t be ready until after the stadium is built.

Flagged car parking and roads as an issue in the early days of the stadium. The road won’t be able to handle the traffics well and parking an issue. The short term solution is to have people park at hubs in surrounding suburbs and run shuttle buses. There will also be temporary sort of gravel parking at the ground. The train station and the construction of a 2,000 vehicle capacity multi story car park near the station are hoped to be long term solutions."

"Membership prices range from $75 to $600. Match day tickets will be $20. $195 for a full season adult GA membership and $300 for a premium reserved seat.

Memberships to be available in late July.

There is an an option to pay an extra $95~ to become a foundation member."

"Rudan seemed a bit all over the place. Saying in an answer to one question that his team’s first focus is defence, and to another that attack is the main priority. Seemed to put way less emphasis and play down the idea of him establishing a culture and style that will run through the club’s side, whilst other speakers talked this aspect up."

Western United announce clear intentions to play in Ballarat

After months of speculation, the community has finally been given its strongest indication yet on whether new A-League club Western United will play competition games in Ballarat with the backing of the club's chiefs.Speaking exclusively to The Courier, director of football at Western United Steve Horvat said while no games have been confirmed, the club is working hard to establish itself within Ballarat."Our CEO Maurice Bisetto has been in discussion with Mars Stadium and the region about playing at least two or three games per season in Ballarat until our stadium is built in our third season," Horvat said.Horvat added that within the club "there's definitely an appetite and discussion that we're having with Ballarat in terms of playing some games over the next two seasons in Ballarat."

Koby Antsis is excited at the prospect of potential A League matches in Ballarat. Photo: Lachlan Bence.Horvat confirmed that if Western United were to play A-League games in Ballarat next season, they would be at Mars Stadium and not Morshead Park. He said this was purely a logistical decision to accommodate for the number of fans attending the game.

"Our club is about putting the supporters first. Although we'd love to play on a rectangle stadium we just feel that we won't be able to accommodate the numbers we would expect to draw for an A-League game at Morshead."Although (Morshead Park) is a great facility and I know there's a discussion going on in the region about upgrading the ground to a bigger capacity which I think would be great for the region, in terms of hosting A-League opposition we have to look at Mars Stadium."

WMG plans to begin construction on the stadium by about this time next year, having struck a deal with the council to gain access for the land. Driving the deal has been Kate Roffey, an experienced sports and business executive appointed by Wyndham City Council to chase deals that will act as catalysts for economic growth in the region.

“There is a lot of housing and not so many facilities nearby,” said Mr Bisetto. “So Kate’s role has been to find projects like ours that bring people to it, rather them having to work or go to sport in the city.”

Need paywall broken - WUFC Stadium Article

Nothing New:

Architect’s render, by Populous.

https://www.theaustralian.com.au/business/property/unique-stadium-for-western-united/news-story/e8998546365a1acb8b79d5582f06ec22

A planned $180 million soccer stadium in Melbourne’s west will be the first major facility privately built for an Australian team and is set to have the steepest gradient in the country and a distinctive roof modelled on its local area.
A-League expansion team Western United, which will enter the competition for the 2019-20 season beginning in October, is finalising plans for the stadium they want to be playing at during the 2021-22 season in the western suburb of Tarneit.Western United management is finalising plans for the project, which will be built by construction giant Probuild and is set to be funded by the proceeds of nearby residential property projects, including in some high-density areas, and underpinned by a commercial zone which will sit adjacent the 15,000-seat arena.

A nearby railway station is also planned, with a town centre potentially being developed by the council. Investors could emerge with ownership of assets worth tens or hundreds of millions more than their initial outlay.

It could make annual profits and investors could later sell their stakes for capital gains. It is hoped the entire project will be built within about six years.
