Yeah Yellow Fever was impressive from the telly, could hear the old Same Old Aussies, Always cheating loud and clear.

What a weekend, Liverpool win 2-0, Wairarapa United win 7-1, Nix win 2-1, does it get any better than that?

See, I had a bad weekend resultswise, but that's okay, because I'll happily trade all the others for a Phoenix win.

That doesn't make sense TLC, but yes happily trade the AFL result for a Phoenix win and I'd list Hawthorn as my most disliked AFL side.

Phoenix above all (except the All Whites).

"Brian came along to give me a hand. He was given a Knights tracksuit top which he wore when we beat Queensland," said Herbert. "When they gave him a Phoenix tracksuit this week, I said it could be a lucky omen."
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

Ricki wanted him as assistant at the start but he wouldn't relocate to Welly so Stu jacobs got the gig... personally I think if it works for the team then fly him down every day... call him our marquee coach

The energy returned, and spurred by a vociferous 6729-strong crowd, the Phoenix played out the remaining 15 or so minutes with few worries apart from one Aloisi shot which Paston coolly dropped on to snuff out.

Hey, Not sure where to post all this and busy at work and all, but as we are all still so excited about the win and what a gutsy effort by all it was, a few of us from out in the suburbs who catch a bus in to every home game have this chant which one of the guys came back from England (cricket) with...from the Barmy Army...
I would love to hear the fever sing it at next game and beyond...
We are the Army
The Phoenix Army
We are mental... and we are mad
We are the greatest football supporters
That the world has ever had!

And big ups to the Scouser in Aisle 25 who is nearly as loud as the fever on his own!!

Interesting, the Herald spent the opening months of the season ignoring the Phoenix (Sunday's Herald excepted).

Well done to Terry for such a cracking review, a positive sign.

Great performance with a lot of heart. That was really noticable even in the first few minutes, and I thought then I don't care what the score is at the end, if we play the full 90 like this I'll be happy.
Thought Doddster and Siggy were superb at the back, Lochy's getting back to his best (I thought that was becoming evident against Perth last week), and Muscat was sound defensively, and even looked to keep the ball on the ground and pass it to our own players...
Leilei was excellent, especially in the first half, and Smeltzy's a legend. He spent the first five minutes of the game chasing everything, harrying Sydney defenders and keeper in possession, and got the goal he richly deserved. Paston was very safe under the high ball, think he's copping some unfair criticism for the goal, that was a superb header by Brosque, would have been difficult for any keeper to stop. I still think Moss should be our number 1 though.

Also interested to read that a lot of people here think Kwasnik had a good game, but I thought he pretty much stalled most of our attacks down the left in the first half with his lack of pace and inability to beat the first defender. He was the furtherest player from me in the second half, so it was hard to see everything he did (and sounds like he got robbed of a goal too), but I wasn't all that impressed with him. Made a great block in the second half though from a good Sydney shot from outside the box.

Really important to back this performance with a similar one next Monday. Is it a 5pm or 6pm kick off? Regardless, need to pack out the 4 Kings and be as loud as last night.el grapadura2008-09-29 11:46:56

Agree with EG. Great to see some heart. Played likethey meant it! Now to continue with it. We have 2 away games and both will be tough. A really good win and will build confidence. Great to see Tim Brown shoot.

I watched the replay at midnight last night and I'm still not entirely sure what Kwasnik was booked for when he 'scored'... he was given offside (and even that was marginal from the replays) but why the yellow?

Kwasnik got the yellow because he kept going despite the whistle being blown several times. At least that's how I remember it - seemed harsh at the time - especially as I'd have said he was onside and had beaten our player fairly.

Edit: Because Monday is a public holiday? That is why the NRL GF is on the Sunday

Johnson captianed our team to their first win of the season. He needs some credit. Why change a winning team? It was a great weekend results wise EXCEPT Arsenal losing to Hull City at the Emirates... THE EMIRATES.

Delaying the restart of play.

The ref had awarded the FK for offside, and has decided that Kwasnik deliberately ignored the whistle and went on to put the ball in the back of the net. Therefore delaying the restart of play of the Sydney FK for the offside offense.

i thought a few of them should of been carded for dives, the ref seemed to pull out his yellows for us but could not find his cards when they fouled or dived.

How did Brosque not get booked for diving ?

I like to know why Dodd on being booked for a professional foul 10 mins into the 2nd half, Brosque hadn't been booked for doing the exact same thing at least 3 times in the first half.

Because the ref was a complete muppet?

I still can't believe the red card incident, I mean I was probably hundred meters away and could see he'd pulled out the red card, and he couldn't see what he was holding in his own hand? Moron.

Ah, the old "keep your red and yellow cards in different pockets and remember which is which" trick. Not taught to Aussie refs apparently

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

But they were in different pockets - he just forgot which is which it would seem. But I've always thought reds were in the back shorts pocket, and yellows in the front shirt one?
Other than that farcical situation, he was pretty poor overall anyway.

I think Bazza teaches it the other way round, although he does like to have quick access to his yellow cards, being the quickest draw in the Fed!!!

I'll have to watch it again. Thought he put the red in his back pocket after he realised his mistake but don't think it came from there.

Agreed, he was mud.

Oh how we miss the crack of the sound barrier being broken as the yellow flies out of his pocket.

He carries his in holsters!

For me it's yellow in right hand front pocket, red in back pocket.

I was gonna say before News posted the pic that the red had definitely come out the back pocket. Saw it as he was running towards Covs and the touchline.

Well done .......... and about time TBH ..........beating the Choppers great ......... now beat the Sum next week.

Sounds like you guys picked a lot ..........Moss & Smeltz ...... maybe two of the best in the A-League with the GC / NT & next year and more than likely a second Melbourne team the season after which I guess will have a second Sydney team or gong then if not signed you may loose them.
