fark, i'm confused. so we're losing 3 games. and according to Radio sport Auckland might be getting an annual Phoenix v Adelaide game. it's crap, the RoF should get to see all teams. Only a game where a team travels here twice should be eligible to be moved to another NZ location.

so which is the game that has westpac stadium next to it going to be elsewhere since they've got "TBC" by only 2 games already.

Week 2 Sun 16, 4:30pm Newcastle Jets Westpac Stadium
Week 4 Sun 30, 4:30pm Melbourne Victory Westpac Stadium

Week 7 Sat 19, 5:00pm Adelaide United TBC
Week 8 Sun 27, 4:30pm Sydney FC Westpac Stadium
Week 10 Sat 10, 5:00pm Perth Glory Westpac Stadium
REGIONAL Wed 14, time tbc Brisbane Roar TBC
Week 12 Fri 23, 7:30pm Newcastle Jets Westpac Stadium
Mid Week Wed 4, 3:00pm Sydney FC Westpac Stadium

Or its here if that worked.

Adjusted for exchange rate that comes to around NZ$330. Are you really not only prepared, but excited about paying an extra $30 for what seems quite a lot of crap and lose discount at store and free away game?

The free entry into the W league games and reserve team games is pretty cool, we don't have those so can't offer it. "The Free QR Train and BT Bus Services only (conditions apply)" could be really good (and something like that would probably be needed in Auckland)  but I don't know how extensive and impressive this actually is. We are lucky enough with the stadium location that this isn't a major issue. Other than that we get the equivalent or its crap.

Not sure where you buy your currency but no way would i be paying that for AUS$250.See some of us who have been members from the start would like some of that crap that you call it.Yes give me the membership badge of the first season or the key ring of the second season,a crappy discount voucher just dosnt cut it.So transport to the stadium isnt an issue guess you dont see the number of people who go to use it after a game or try and get out of town after another bloody sunday game. Not sure just how you can say we get the equivalent when as far as im aware our prices arnt out yet.

today I wore my Nix scarf to work (not cold in Welly - gesture of solidarity in the face of the NZ Football, Auckland sell-out idea)

at lunchtime I walk up onto the concourse to get a look at the Ring of Fire.

so much for my loyalty - my club doesn't just fancy 1 'sly shag behind my back' it's after 3 .....

Perhaps our games should all be at 3pm - 1pm Aussie time. Then TV, families etc can all be happy and probably home in time to catch the next game. I dont think Midweek games are going to work for the A League in general and I am surprised they are persisting with the experiment.
Did you not realise there has been a recession, this affects spending (therefore attendace's) especialy for families.
Waste of time targeting families, you are better off targeting singles/couples pre children and empty nesters as they are the ones with the money to spend on a regular basis.
Glad you are not the club marketing manager
As they did such a good job last season, numbers down following on from our best ever season, plus all the other positives eg Rojas.  Thats why I'm in the marketing game and you're not.

The novel concept is having lots of midweek games on 4 January.

I quite like the idea of a whole day of football. Especially over the holiday period

The school holiday period maybe, what about everyone else? Am I not right in saying that Wednesday 4th January is the day most will be back at work? A 3pm kick off FFS? It sounds ok in theory, but even for a football fanatic like me, 5 games in a row is probably a bit much?

I can probably wing it and get away a couple of hours early, but I suspect a few people won't be able to, as well as all of those who are still away from the city. Prepare for our lowest ever crowd on that one IMO.

As for the fixtures, my personal feelings are that there are too many Sunday games, and as others are saying, 3 home games not being at home is a piss take. Must be the only team in history with such a great home record who is keen to take more and more games away from that 'fortress' every season!

Totally this for me. If it is 3 away games, I'll be p***ed. Not about money. But about wanting to watch my team play as many games as possible at our home ground. (The point someone made earlier about our record at RoF is very valid). I don't want to have to travel to Chch, Akl or wherever to watch the nix, and for my loyalty in buying a nix membership every year, I want to watch the nix as much as possible.
Call me whatever, but that's how it is for me.

Until we can consistenly get 15-18k per game I think we can expect a game a season to be going to Chch (potentially not this year).

I actually don't mid the team going to another city to play a home game, it's been very successful both $$ wise and performance wise in Chch, if hamiton and Auckaldn can do the same then why not. SAure I'd ratehr they played all home games at RoF but in reality Terry and the nix need the money. However, if the price of a season pass goes up and we get less real home games than last season I'll be annoyed.

Alright.  The official word is this.

At this stage thje Wellington Phonix have 13 home games this season - the regional round game (December 14th) is NOT the Phoenix's home game it is an 'FFA home game'.  ONE of those 13 home games will be played outside Wellington, almost certainly in Auckland - primarily due to the unavailability of AMI in Christchurch.

There WILL be 12 home games at Westpac stadium.  In addition to this other NZ cities are welcome to bid for regional round games so the Phoenix are encouraging other NZ Centres to bid for the right to host the December 14th game but this could go to an Australian centre.

The Phoenix are in looking at options to play Pre-Season matches in Dunedin and Tauranga which is where that mis-information came from.

Here endeth the lesson.

This sounds pretty strange. Can Wellington bid for it? Can the opposition? It just sounds like FFA are auctioning off home ground advantage.

Do all teams have one of these or only Wellington?

So...3 games in nz that aren't in Wellington?

It's still a cop out if that's the case. given they could only take 1 game other than the regional game and end up with 2 games elsewhere in nz to boost revenue and share the Phoenix love.

If it goes to an Australian centre, would the Phoenix still get gate revenue? It does seem very odd indeed. Tegal2011-06-02 10:51:42

No Tegal.  There is one Wellington Phoenix home match outside Wellington

rjmiller wrote:

It is the five games that end up uneven due to the three round competition.  By doing this every side has 13 home games plus plays 1 'Regional Round' game where a side is arbitrarily drawn as the home team.

These matches are the FFA's games, not a clubs home games so any risk or revenue would go to the FFA.

Hell, Dunedin could make a play for the Gold Coast vs Sydney regional round game if they thought they could sell it... and let's be honest they would probably break the Gold Coast crowd record.

I suppose that does make sense. It still seems a bit like the richest clubs will get the extra home games.

The plan is quite specific that these matches go to places that don't currently have an A-league entity and also that the revenue goes to the FFA, not either of the clubs.

OK, fair enough. In that case I do actually like the idea. Balances out number of home games for all teams. Plus it should shut up all those people who keep saying Auckland or Hamilton deserve a game. If they do deserve a game they will bid for it.

Well, fair enough, I can live with that. (Not that I've ever liked our home games going elsewhere, but it was the increase every season that was the most annoying bit). I also accept the point about the previous success in Chch which is valid.
This will be a real test for Akl though. Let's see how many bums they get on seats.

These regional matches seem quite rubbish then. Guess they have to recoup the money they got scammed out of in the WC bid somehow.

So 2 games out of wellington, one of which is forced and FFA get profits from, pretty much what the draw said then funnily enough.
