Plus rumour has it that Carney has trouble signing autographs. Just ask Michael Bodi when/if he is here for the Jest game (should there be one) in 3 weeks time

Don't understand the whole 'top 4 club wouldn't want to look at a bottom 2 club for players' argument...

We are not looking for starting players either, names suggested would be to add some depth for the rest of the season. Tinkler said Sack Whacker is wanted by Perth, so they are looking to add depth despite being first.

If they don't have the spine to fight when 2nd from bottom, why do you think they would have the spine to get you over the line in a final?

Maybe some have shown promise, or maybe the coach thinks he can mould them.

We still have players in our squad from when we were bottom 2

Sackwhacker has at least won a final.

I can count. Just in response to that 'fight' quote, and we know that Sackwhacker has plenty of fight (maybe not the right kind). Carney, the "white Pele" also won with SFC in season 1.

so we should have sacked all our squad last year after a spineless display getting stuffed 5 nil by Heart at home because there is no way we could compete this year?

We weren't close to having our first team out in those defeats, and our players had proven they had a spine prior to the injury spate.  How have Newcastle looked at any point this season?

People are advocating signing a pair of ancient players who had shark attitudes when they were fit enough to play in this league, let alone now.  Fudge that.

In the grand scheme of things it doesnt really matter where a team finishes. We've lost plenty of players to other A-League sides over the years. Pretty sure if other players like Greenacre and especially Ifill were open to a move they wouldve had plenty of interest from other clubs. I also recall Dura and Manny turning down contracts at Sydney and Melbourne opting to stay here. Kosta, Rojas, Smeltz, Moss, Vuka, Reddy all went to other clubs... probably more players that i cant think of right now

I saw the Jest play City in late December and commented to my father that Zenon Caravella was the only one who showed any pride in what he was doing.

Others showed plenty of ability but no passion

not advocating signing anyone. Just saying it is foolish to dismiss  all players as being no good because their teams league position

Sign Appiah now. Get him involved in the club culture. Worst case scenario he goes somewhere else. Best case he becomes an AW.

Zenon was about the only one who seemed to give a sh*t prior to RH rocking up for the Knights too.

He's had a bit of a run with clubs in crisis, so might be more used to this then others, not that that's a good thing.

More talk that Appiah-Kubi has been told to look elsewhere

Wouldn't mind Ernie having a look at him for 6 months tbh.

Agreed, as he would be a decent back-up (or even first team) option instead of Kenny Cunningham, freeing up a visa spot.

That is assuming the current trend of Kenny "not being good enough" continues.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

Its not that he isnt good enough, because he is. Ive heard he has an attitude problem at times. Either way he's out of favor and that probably isnt going to change.

Would be interesting to see if anyone else signs Appiah. Comes across as not being very fond of NZ. Didnt he get offered a chance to play age group international football for NZ, but turned it down? To the best of my knowledge he's never represented anyone else at any level either.

Football Federation Australia (FFA) has announced that the reduction in the foreign player cap per club from 5 to 4 has been deferred until Season 13 in 2017/18.

Previously, the reduction was to come into effect from Season 11 in 2015/16.

The Board of FFA decided to defer the reduction at its meeting last week, based on a review by the FFA Technical Department and submissions from Hyundai A-League clubs.

Good. Dumping that on clubs with no real prior warning would be ridiculous. Sense prevails.

Its been on the agenda for at least a season, that is why most clubs had a number visa players deals were ending this season

Real warning in my view is more than half a season of it 'possibly' happening. Clubs have already lost potential visa players because of this.

Clubs need at least a full year to plan for it.

Looks like Burns is staying

Young Western Sydney striker Tomi Juric was a target for Shenhua last month after the Wanderers accepted an offer from the Chinese Super League (CSL) outfit.

But the 23-year-old Socceroo rejected the approach on the advice of Socceroos coach Ange Postecoglou.

Wellington's Nathan Burns, who was part of the Asian Cup winning squad, was also a target, but Shanghai powerbrokers were put off by his $1.5 million price tag.

So Ante Alilovic is Cahill's agent and the one who made up blatant lies about the offer to Nathan Burns from the same club that Cahill is joining.

Permalink Permalink

So what are you trying to get at there 2nd Best? It can't be driving up Cahills value cause you would want to shop Cahill to another club for that to happen, not talk smack about another footballer. Unless Burns was an intended target and it was to make Burns seem 'unsignable' in order for his man to be signed.

I am missing what you are stating.

Alilovic got whiffed of an offer to Burns. Thoughts he wants some of that action. Makes up some bullshark to derail it. Offers Cahill as an alternative.

So it wasn't a CFA conspiracy to unsettle the Australian squad by targetting a substitute forward, just before the Oz-China AFC game?
