But he got got us Stacy Nuelle singing with Nixie as part of the Sarpong deal!

While clearly not a slam-dunk solution to the not-a-striker dilemma I am really excited by the attacking possibilities in our midfield next season. If Sarpong is anywhere near Roly's level then Gareth's dream of total football is one step closer to reality.

Yeah, if we want to play total football then we need a team of Rolly's, a guy signed as DM and CB cover but ends up playing as AM and even a Striker. That's total fudgeing football.

That guy Rufer got some form as a striker?

Hudson and the #alignment make him playing as a striker. From what I remember he was an attacking midfielder and in the U-20 World Cup he was pretty poor as a CF

Am no expert but from what I've seen Rufer looks really uncomfortable up front and looks a bit better when he's facing towards the strikers playing passes through.

What of Ridenton, too? I feel like this season is the time he needs to make his mark. I still think he has promise but he hasn't really shown much lately.

I thought Riddington had a pretty good game in New Plymouth. I thought he owned his side of the midfield.

He was playing right-ish back (either as a right back, right wing back, or right most CB, depending on your point of view) yesterday in New Plymouth when he came on.

How did he go there?

Most likely on the team bus with the rest of the squad

If he playing in the Cap Prem game, he may have flown.......

Someone like Eager would fit that bill.

Eager has just Captained South Melbourne to their 2nd NPL title - That's three titles in three years (first one with Northcote City)

He'd be keen!

Surely there's a reason we haven't looked at him yet; seems too obvious for Ernie to miss. Must not rate him for our current setup.

My suspicion is that Ernie might have him in mind as an option but is aware he isn't going anywhere, so is looking at other options first.

So Sarpong was supposed to arrive today? Late flight in?

Fly him in, put him in a Hotel, let him sign give a press conference with the player. And if his a bit settled then show him the training facilities.

We have training facilities now?

Has anyone told Marco?

At this stage, Eager is a known quantity to 'football' in NZ so I suspect if he is looking at him, he will already know and then over a gig.

He would be a reasonable CB option. Having said that, someone else said he has AU citizenship and other clubs have not picked him up....

if we are seriously looking at playing three at the back I would like to think we are targeting our new Greek kiwi

I dunno, I don't really buy the "no one else has picked him up so he's not A League quality" argument. It might just be that no other club has needed another CB, or have been able to find better options when they've been looking, but that doesn't mean he isn't good enough. Especially as CBs usually take a few more years to mature into the role than say, strikers or wingers. I mean, Manny came from state league football in his 20s. No one else had picked him up and although his form wasn't the best last year he is definitely a decent A League RB. Or another example would be EU players in European football. You wouldn't dismiss an EU national playing in say Holland or Portugal as not good enough for the EPL/La Liga/Bundesliga because no club from those comps has picked him up yet.

I'm not saying Eagar is good enough necessarily - I personally don't know much about him, haven't seen him play - but a lot of people seem to rate him and the South Melbourne fans think he's quality. I just don't think he should be written off because he hasn't picked up a full pro contract yet.

Apparently Tzimopoulos is contracted to his current club until 2018, so I doubt we'll be getting him. Unless the Greek financial crisis gets worse...

Alot of people who follow NPL are of the opinion that Eagar is a touch slow for the A league.  I think he'd be able to do a job at A league as well as Adams aswell who I am very impressed with.  Musa the other Kiwi who is in the US now would be good enough for A league aswell.  In saying that, stay away from our payers! haha.  Go after Musa, not the others.

Bentleigh are in the finals. Ryan was contracted for them. Told the club he would not be participating in them and returned to NZ.

Yeah  I always thought Adams had potential and that he was a bit hard done by by the club when they released him. Musa too, although I think he's committed to his US team for a couple of years.

How about we take Eagar and you can have Josh Brindell-South seeing as we just let him go? ;)

Well the original one came from Piney with no comment being made by the Nix, so this is probably just them making it official.

Simon Hampton reporting that Jeffrey is training with the squad today - will he make the trip to Melbourne or are there rules around new players' eligibility for the Cup?
