2015/16 Transfer Speculation

The best thing about Kosta is he frees up a foreign spot. With the likes of Fox, and depending on if Powell kicks on through the rest of the year our squad is looking really good next year. Especially because some of the bigger teams have lots of players coming off contract and are likely to be rebuilding.

Really can't believe some of the stuff I'm reading in some of the threads. Seems welnix can't take trick with some people. Great to have Kosta coming back and great it's a kiwi getting that sort of money if true. Wouldn't mind betting if Kosta hadn't been a kiwi there wouldn't be the same criticisms being made.

Yeah, like I said - I don't care about the money. If we can afford it, why not?

It will be absolutely fantastic to have Kosta back at the club. Watching the press conference and a few of the comments Ernie + Dome made, it looks like the deal is done.

Anyway, fantastic to have some positive news to offset the Jones' debacle.

Kosta's only 25 and appears to be one of the brightest talents in NZ football right now, and also looks to be still improving - tying up one of the countries top players for their best years is going to cost $$. More than happy to see this money go to a local.

Without really knowing how much players are paid in the A League, my gut feeling is that 750g a year is too much for him in terms of the value he would bring us. There was some talk in the last few days about how this move might meet one of the metrics of the FFA but I can't see that either. I base that on the fact that Kosta is already in the A League so how great an effect will he be on getting significantly more bums on seats. If the FFA were wanting us to bring in top name marquee/s, then I don't think he fits that criteria either. Don't get me wrong, it will be great to have him back but if the report is correct, I'd love to see the business case for justifying it [just out of interest mind - its their money so they can spend it however they like].

MV have just lost one of their top players. They will surely replace Barbarouses with another pretty good player. There was also the chance that otherwise Kosta would take off to Europe because Victory couldn't offer him that much unless he was marquee.

Agree, but Kosta has already tried Europe.

I think any questions are based on Kosta's ability, not his nationality. Don't take it all so personally man.

Ok troops, get onto any relations you have overseas and let's scout for the club. Bringing legit names forward may help. we need players around 23-25 years old.

I'm guessing we will get lots of announcements shortly, rumors awhile back were that Krishna has resigned.

If we do get Kosta then suddenly the squad has real potential next year, if Powell kicks on from that hat trick then we will potentially go from a drought of goal scorers to a flood, and with at least one foreign spot still available, and potentially one opening during the season if Riera becomes a citizen before the January transfer window closes.

It gives Roly a chance that someone else will be kicked in the shins instead of him.

And hopefully he will stay in midfield where he can make real difference.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

Why would you not take Danaskos and then you have him and Doyle fighting for their spot. Meaning they would both up there game!

Yes to all except Appiah and maybe Gulley - not convinced by him. Manny getting to the end of his tether too but still useful as he can play CB/RB.

Also dependent on Watson proving himself over the next few games.

Step 1. Now Kosta can have some fun. Step 2. Smeltz knows what to do. Step 3. Marco home on a free. Then Phoenix can train as NZA and get ready to crush the South Americans in the inter-continental playoffs and NZF can save some do$h on air travel. Oh, an the Nix make the playoffs with lots of classic Merrick quits in our ears.

I think Manny should be re-signed because of his versatility. He can play anywhere across the backline and at DM at a pinch, which will be useful if we have an injury crisis or a bunch of players away on AWs duty.

Lia is a tough call though. It depends on how much faith you put in youngsters like Ridenton and Rufer to step up. You have to expect that Riera will miss a few games through suspension and injury over the course of a season. I personally think we have a lot of centre mids and the money from Lia and Sigmund should be used to try and get a quality CB - maybe Boxall can be lured back.

You probably want to keep at least one of Manny and Lia in the squad for leadership and experience too, seeing as Siggy won't be there next year

no to Italiano? He is often the reason weenix don't get beaten by double figures.

For me that depends on

a) if he wants to stay and be backup again/push for Moss' spot.

b) if he asks for more money - then may as well sign Oli Sail on minimum, who has been playing equally as well as Italiano for Weenix

I'm thrilled over the "speculation" that Kosta is returning. However, I don't see him as the answer to all our goal woes as some seem to be saying. Certain other MV players who are left out of the Asian Champions League squad are feeling really miffed with Kevin Muscat right now. If Kosta is the "Salt", where is the "pepper". I believe there is more to the Kosta rumour, he is only part of the picture.

Lewis Italiano - No? On what grounds? A stuff up against Christchurch?. Narrrr. Works hard, promising goalkeeper IMO.

However - Manny Muscat?  Sorry but he looks tired, time to get back to the family business Manny. He can't "track back" to save himself.

Manny is great cover for both FB and CB. In the A-League, that is gold dust.

the point is he's a goal scorer and creator and keeps a visa spot free for another striker.

If we sign a foreign striker then you will have Bonevacia, Powell, Krishna, McGlinchey, Barbarouses and foreign striker fighting for 4 starting spots. Not to mention someone like Hamish Watson would probably never get a look in. Meanwhile we would have Muscat, Fenton and Danaskos fighting to play at the back. Our attack would not be our problem.

It's the a league, defense is always a problem.

Permalink Permalink

Obviously defence is not good in the league. Delpierre and Faty are foreign defenders. Almost all the other foreign players are midfielders or attackers. I think Galekovic is the only marquee who is a defender.

Permalink Permalink

A good foreign CB seems to make a big difference, though. DelPierre almost single handedly fixed MV's defence (for a time). Zwaanswijk at CCM too.

It's funny that Roly was bought to be that player for us.

So Mike Cockerill was talking during the Nix v Jets game as if the Kosta deal was definite - he seemed pretty emphatic.

Anyone know if it's true?

Cockerill is usually pretty well-informed as editor of the FFA websites etc. He has the best contacts in Oz football.
