There is a game vs Wharf on Saturday that could have a few of the fringe players involved.

Nah, it's Wellington United playing that, not Nix.

Have any preseason fixtures been announced yet? The FFA cup draw is next Thursday, with the first round games being played between the 25th of July and the 9th of August. Obviously nothing much can happen until the AWs are back, but if we're going to take the cup at least semi-seriously it'd be good to have a few hit outs before then.

I think the fact we can never have home games in the FFA Cup means we will never take it seriously, if we win it means an extra cost of at least 20k and they way the cup is organised A-League teams all play each other anyway, better off playing friendlies at home

The problem is it's not attractive for anyone to come play us at home, so if we want to play friendlies against A league opposition we often will have to go across the ditch anyway. We may as well do it when there's prize money, gate revenue and tv rights involved (although saying that I realise the FFA probably take a lot of the later two). Even the fact that the draw is rigged to put A League teams against each other means we would play the sort of opposition we want to play in pre season anyway.

And I imagine a good part of that $20k would be made up for in season ticket sales and attendance in the early part of the season if we had a good run.

it's a competition we are in, so we should be trying to win it. Simple

FFA metrics dictate we are not allowed to progress past two rounds or they have to make up a reason to stop us.

i usually hit david dome up about bringing a pre season game to wanganui but after all the years of it not happening i have given up even asking. i had a few groups in wanganui interested in helping to pay the $$$ to bring them here last pre season and had contacted  businesses to see if they were interested in being involved. i guess the phoenix are not that interested in trying to capture a larger fan base in the lower north island.

Wanganui  could be an interesting trip. Better than the ring of dirt. I am hoping this season the travelling circus will be abandoned for once and for all. However if it is a must, then a game in Napier and one in New Plymouth would be cool.

Come to New Plymouth

But maybe get WelNix and NPDC on the same wavelength so that advertisement and promotion of said match actually occurs.

Will we ever play a non A-League club in this shark cup competition or do the FFA just want us knocked out as early as possible?

I wonder if Roly will be booting up for WSW in this game.
