An area in which we've needed strengthening for a while, so it's an exciting prospect. Hopefully he settles in well.

He quite literally cannot be worse than what we have and the potential upside is huge.  Dura and Siggie were at their best 5 years ago

Amen to that.

Match-fixing charge not a good look, but in reality would he be coming here if that had not happened in his career?

He's done his time for that, glad he is with us, looks a proper decent signing on paper.

it's like the Netflix doco Last Chance U - college in a tiny US town gets all these good gridiron players that have issues or need remedial academic training, but they're real good players and they smash all the teams they play

I like tautologies because I like them.

Probably premature..  A Serie A player, U30 coming to the Nix!! Wahoo

like his attitude

"Rossi said he had been training hard for the last three weeks as he realised he would be a bit behind the Phoenix players when he arrived."

and

"Rossi’s signature won’t be the end of the club’s signings with Merrick looking for a fullback, defensive midfielder and a back-up striker."

Oh yessssss

Happy with this signing but was also happy with the Sarpong signing too.

He's had to do some work to get in shape does not inspire me. If you are looking for your next contract, you should already be in shape!

I don't think a comparison with Sarpong is fair - he was brought in to replace Burns but his record suggested that he might not be suited for the role and many people were sceptical. Sarpong was also signed closer to the start of the season so had less time to settle in.

Rossi has been brought in to replace Sigmund and he's a CB so he's not being asked to take up a new role like Sarpong was. He's also probably more prepared for the physicality of the A League than Sarpong was seeing as he's been playing in the lower leagues in Italy.

exactly this. He's here because of this past. I mean we've got the salary cap issues in this league too- aided and abetted and not....

Apparently he is being paid in Raf's pizzas meaning his saraly falls outside the cap!

Hope he settles in, because with under 30, he left home and Mamas cooking skills for first the time (some more Italy cliche, may even fact)

Update: Haha, I think I just saw him eating lunch in the Mediterranean Foods Deli in Newtown.

Bit worried about the lack of English skills. Pretty important to have good communication in the back-line you'd think.

How's Dura's Italian? :) Does Italiano know any?

now we just need a left back, right back, defensive midfielder and a striker. Oh and another center back to replace Durante either now or next season.

Who's left back when Doyle gets injured/suspended/called up to the All Whites?

F..K is a universal word along with many other positional universal words, sure they can put in to translator for him to learn over making Pizza for Raf.

The problem will be mentally if he can't settle into the community / hang out with his team mates.

Italiano's first name is Lewis.  By this logic you may as well ask if Rufer knows how to lay tiles, or if Burns knew first aid.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

Anyway, great signing I think, and especially good that we have they option if he has a good season.

Pedigree probably better than we can expect under normal circumstances. I wonder how the Phoenix got onto him? Not from Ernie's scouting trip to the UK.

Agreed.

Plus the club can save some money by re-using the old jerseys issued to Ross Aloisi. Just a bit of nip and tuck.

Pedigree is a funny beast. I've seen excellent players underwhelm in a team of average guys. This is however more likely in a midfield - attack part of the field, where the service is of paramount importance.  An excellent CB may however lift an average team.

I dunno mate. Apparently there are roughly 7,000 languages in the world, so even knowing one or two still leaves you plenty of choices when it comes to being an iggo rascist!

Hopefully there won't be confusion in the box with him and Mossy.  He needs a nickname....
