Darn, if only we had a spare VISA spot, Jacques Faty just got released by Sydney, he would have been an accomplished defender that we have been demanding. Though apparently he wants to pursue bigger things.

What about Matt Simon? I get people don't like him, but we may not have a choice.

We'd surely be able to get a decent year or two from him, so long as we can get him service.

We need someone big and physical to lead the line for us. If we don't end up resigning Hamish Watson, I'd like to think we would have a look at him.

No difference between Simon and Watson, except one will ask for more money whilst the other one will apparently tell you how much he is getting.

Permalink Permalink

Based on players coming off contract at the end of the year we would arguably have one of the more settled sides. We just really need to fill the remaining spots with some real quality.

There's a big difference between Simon and Watson. Personally I can't stand Simon but he's got a lot of experience and has been impressive so far in a misfiring Sydney team. He's a much better player than Watson but he's getting more injury prone as he gets older and he's a massive tool.

Simon is apparently on minimum wage, although you'd expect bonuses in a deal like that.

can we at least let Lia go? Im tired of watching him give the ball away the entire game and then watching him drag his fat arse after the opposition.

Queenslander 3x a year.

Permalink Permalink

Won't Lia stay on? Otherwise surely he'd have had the same send off as Muscat and Siggy?

Permalink Permalink

Surely a one year extension on lower wages as a squaddie?

Permalink Permalink

i feel like lia is at the point where he's not good enough to play but will also hold up younger players development. Not overly sure why we should keep him on, at his very best he's average to just below average compared to other players.

Still streets ahead of Ridenton, Rufer and the other young brigade (McGarry etc) and based on the second half of the season, probably no worse than Riera. His experience alone makes him an asset as at least a squaddie (at the right price).

I actually thought that Lia and A Rod controlled the midfield better than Riera + 1 has in recent games. We certainly had more ball and created more opportunities than the last few weeks.

I couldn't help but wonder if that reflected Riera getting too slow to cover and make up ground in D and on attack.

Would rather have than Ridenton or Rufer in there at this point.

Still to be really convinced by both of these to be honest. Still young obviously, but they have just completed their 3rd full season in a pro environment and although they have only got to play bit parts, nothing has really suggested they will ever be more than a middle of the road A League player at best,

Next year will be crucial for both and it is time for them to show a lot more than having a well known surname when they are offered opportunities.

I  can't see either of them or Lia, getting a lot of game time, and as I said, Lia for me is ahead of them in experience alone.

We need Lia to stay. Ideally in a reduced role but losing Manny and Siggy is a lot of experience and leadership out the door, both on and off the pitch. Vinniesta adds value with both and provides vital leadership support for Dura.

hmmm ive always thought ridenton and vinnie had the exact same presence on the field and similar skill levels, i can understand the experience aspect though.

The experience thing depends on who else we sign though. Kosta and Finkler are both experienced players, and if we get another experienced defender or 2 then the argument that we need Lia for experience and leadership alone looks a little weak

Experience is probably the wrong word for me to have used, was thinking more of Leadership. While both Kosta and Finkler, have plenty of Games under their belts they do not seem to me anyway to be what you would call Leaders. Neither are particularly vocal on the pitch.

Call me crazy, but Ive always found effective on field leadership depends on the ability to play to a level roughly equivalent to your team mates....

A shining ruby in the dust! - can you please do another reel called "Vince Lia Pointing at Things"?

Permalink Permalink

Well if that's all it takes to sign someone, bring back Elrich.

Permalink Permalink

There is no point to re- signing Lia just because he has "experience".

The league has passed his level.

It will show a lack of ambition if he gets picked again
