Don't put yr (Auckland) house on it.

The biggest risk in signing Key to a long term deal is that he might be playing for the opposition after the next election...

Not surprised he's signed up to play football, he was never gonna play Union, was he!

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Politics aside that is gold for the sponsors.

I believe his contract expires soonish and he has plenty of experience.

Plays centrally and as left-back, so can help ease in guys like Fox, Doyle, Gulley

Plus, we could always use someone else to police the backline

Well with Johnny boy over there as our real estate agent, I might just end up doing that

Brownlee could go in goal. He'd fill it and make it near impossible to be scored against

Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

I would vote for Judith "Crusher" Collins as a CB, in Kevin Muscat style.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

Think we're too late on that one, but I agree. Had Fallandrolly in his back pocket all season.

According to a facebook page called the secret agent, phoenix are in the hunt along with Wsw and Adelaide for a 25 year year old perth born defender called Tomislav Mrcella who has played all of his career in Croatia.Although it does stress wanderers are favorites to get him.

Now that's some good transfer speculation

Agreed it looks similar to the lurker with nrl rumors, but it does seem a bizarre rumor to make up.Some wood duck nobodies ever heard of being chased by 3 A league clubs, lol.

He has been looked at by Ange for the Socceroos previously but not called up, so it could be putting two and two together. If it has some truth and he chooses WSW, it at least means Hamill would probably be available from them.

This is not as rare as it sounds.  There was a similar story with an Australian born player of Uruguayan parentage who spent most of his playing days in Uruguay and who was at least looked at but not selected (he was being championed by SBS pundits as a potential saviour during the striker-drought days post WC 2010). I only need to remember his name to complete a plausible argument here :-)

Richard Porta

Yes! That's him.

Amazing what collective brain power this forum has.

With this brain power we could probably run FFA ourselves full-time, and NZF on weekends (and public holidays) as a part-time extra.

Ah, Richard Porta and Dean Bouzanis; the two former potential saviours of Australian football at one point (plucked from Football Manager)

If I recall Pim Verbeek did not want to pick Porta but Osieck did, I think the problems (leading to non-selection by Osieck for 2014 WC) were eventually logistics rather than talent. My recollection might be off-target (much like my post, as it is clearly off-topic)

Luciano Trani is available now his contract at Melbourne City has expired.

I'd be glad to have him back as Assistant Manager.

Can he play at Centre half?

Agreed. I like Greenie but unsure how much he actually brings to the table. I think having an opinion that may deviate from Ernie's strict gameplan might be helpful to create a bit of discussion amongst the coaching staff.

how do you know that doesn't happen now?

It's clear that the team requires a shakeup and there is no reason why it should only happen with the playing squad and not the technical managers. This also doesn't mean sacking Greenacre, other A-League sides have multiple assistant coaches so there is no reason why we should only have one.

Ryan wrote:

And your reason we should have more than one is because other teams do?

A better reason would indicate how it/he would improve the Phoenix (I'm not saying he wouldn't just saying that because other teams do, isn't a strong enough reason to dictate that we should).

That's a sentiment, it doesn't tell me how bringing LT back would improve us. What will he give us that we don't have now? From EM, GC, or one of the other coaches?

Or are you saying we just make changes for the sake of changing with no clear reasoning why? and if you do that, how do you know whether your change is successful, and if "it" is, why?
