2020/21 Transfer Speculation

Pure speculation but I see that fellow Israeli Beram Kayal is also a free agent, and I wonder if signing Tomer Hemed would make it a possibility of signing Kayal to replace Steinmann. Kayal and Hemed are best mates and came up through the ranks at Maccabi Haifa together before reuniting at Brighton. They even both went out on loan to Charlton together from Brighton last season. They've stated in the media that any time they get they do stuff together, seems like a real bromance. Both have partners and kids of a similar age, surely spending a season down under with your best mate and family in a nice climate away from covid and playing in a league way less intensive than the Championship would be an attractive offer. Kayal is a defensive midfielder of very decent quality, would be a genuine improvement on Matti

Looking forward to your pre season analysis of each A League squad, plus finishing place predictions JJ.

Always a good well researched piece.

We might be in competition with Robbie Fowler's Indian team for Hemed, East Bengal fans have been asking the ISL Journos about him today.

I thought ISL transfer window was now closed?

I guess he's a free agent so can be signed.

Yeah, free agents can still be signed by them

Guess it comes down to crazy amounts of Covid and bubble in a country were football is a complete afterthought or no Covid, semi freedom and playing in two countries where football is backpage news at best.

And the coin being offered. That might be a factor.

Hemed definitely seems like a family-oriented man like Ball. You'd have to say the A-League would provide a more favourable option for him

Doesn't sound like ISL is allowing families to join the players. Teams just based in hotels in their bubble by the sound of it. But it's also all finished by about March, so relatively short season. On a per capita popn basis, India is no more dangerous re Covid than pretty much all of Europe. And I'm sure players will have access to world class healthcare in their Goa bubble.

Not sure where this leaves the Hemed rumours but a decent sauce reckons we have signed a young striker.

Never done one of these, so might not be as cryptic as the old school Fever Elite ones

is your orange m&m Mirza Muratovic - the same guy who (as well as his family members) has started following the Nix on Instagram , or is it Max Mata who is back in NZ after being released from Grasshopper?

Mirza Muratovic - I wonder if the Roar have released him?

Max Mata -  would be a decent youth signing....but we'd still need some firepower up front I think.

Geez I'm rubbish at this. Yeah, word out of Brisbane is that Muratovic has left to join us. He had 1 year left on his scholarship deal, so I guess he wasn't in the Roar's plans going forward.

Wonder if he has already been training / trialling with the Nix.

Any word on any Aus players on trial?

Graham Dorrans has accepted what sounds like quite a decent contract to play in Australia, I wonder where? He'll be a really good signing for whoever gets him.

He won't be signed as the starter though, it would be a gamble to think we can get 15+ goals out of him so we must be in the market for a foreign striker still.

Not sure we'll be signing two visa centre forwards given how tight money is. Would be stoked to be wrong though.

He's not a centre forward, is a midfielder.

I guess is going to one of the other teams...

I think Ryan was referring to Muratovic - young Aussie striker

Yeah got my wires crossed - I looked up Muratovic quickly and saw "of Bosnian descent" and missed the "Australian" bit entirely. Not my finest work.

As you were.

Maybe he offers something different to Waine, I don't know enough about him. Either way, neither Waine nor Muratovic will be starters this season, we will still sign an import 9

Remember someone saying somewhere - "possibly too good for Handy Prem, but not good (or not yet ready) for A League". Brutal assessment, but you want your backup striker to come on and threaten to score. Maybe Talay sees more of that in Muratovic, if the signing rumours are true. I'm sure Uffie has a plan.

Perhaps Waine needs to go somewhere like the Swedish 3rd tier for 12 months, fill his boots and gain some confidence.

I don't know about him but Talay could be looking at him as more of a wide forward to replace McCowatt.

Waine is interesting for me... he seems to be developing more into a target man, where as when he first arrived he looked really mobile.

Of course when he first arrived he still had plenty of growing to do, so the changes might reflect his changing body shape. Looking forward to him getting more minutes and seeing what he can do.

Talay got it right with Devlin, I trust him to make the call on this and get something out of the kid.

With DeVere most likely to pair up with TAWH at the back and most likely Devlin and Rufer in middle, at most we might only sign an import striker.

Tomer Hemed's latest Instagram story shows he is still training in the UK but Uli Davila looks like he is on the way to Australia today without his family at this stage.
