Doubt any answer will be given but just why they were unprepared is the question given a couple of factors. Pre sales were high and they really should have been aware of this and the Phoenix had organised for a heap of kids to turn up. Which ever way you look at they are experienced enough to have been able to cope with what was a small crowd.and it says more about their systems than anything.

Really just yet another season of mediocre service and ripoff prices by a stadium that has a captive group of customers despite making noises  they really dont give a toss as despite the issues raised by many they are still selling their products and people are queuing to buy them. Maybe if people stopped buying and queuing then a genuine effort to improve things might be made.

Living in Upper Hutt and not that far from a station, I normally take the train. Saving the planet and all that plus working in the city, that is my normal mode of transport in anyway.

Not Sunday. With the trains down and aware what "replacement buses" can be like, I decided the aftermatch thought of the scrum to get on a bus was unpalatable  and took the car. Arrived in Thorndon Quay at 3.30 and found the cones. I actually assumed it would be for train replacement buses instead of the usual platform 9 scenario. Found out of course it was charters for the junior clubs. Anyway, I got a park no problem a bit further up than planned. Remembered that Sunday parking is now charged and paid the meter to the maximum 2 hours which expired at 5.35. Hoped that would be enough for the 6.00 limit but no. Got back to the car after the game and found a ticket timed at 5.52. A bit miffed but i have no defence of course. I ran the gauntlet and lost. Fair warning though to those that normally drive for any kickoff prior to 6.00.

I will be back to the trains hopefully for 3 November

Loud blaring music DURING the game.......check!

Long queues to buy expensive crap food.......check!

Game stopped for incomprehendible VAR decisions......check!

And they wonder why people are giving up on going to the stadium to watch live sport.

The only way you will change the food situation is to use people power. Get YF to organise a food boycott at the stadium. The press will get hold of the story and the stadium will have to respond.

Another indication the club really dont think about things sometimes you also really do wonder about the council and their parking department. An event at the stadium and they are issuing tickets at 5.50 on a Sunday. One word RSOLES

They will deny it, but it is quotas.  Some "lucky" warden would have thought it was an early Christmas

The rules are clearly posted though, you knew the rules and gambled. There's plenty of free parking just ten minutes walk away.

On the plus side..... no more 5pm kickoffs so should be fine for parking. On the downside..... no more 5pm kickoffs.

Auckland Tuatara confirmed to be signing a NINE year deal with QBE to play baseball there. I think it means the West Stand might be goneburgers to accomodate the size of the field - cost $2,000,000.

They'll drop in the baseball diamond each November to suit the season from 2019.

Absolutely dreadful I agree. Also, the system paying to enter the car park is rubbish. Everyone in one queue until the last minute, when they make you do a 90 degree turn into one of several ticket sellers. There is enough space there to use some cones and the exit lanes (which are barely used at that time) to split the queue up earlier and get it moving.

The music during the game, well Ive had quite enough of that shark.

And where was the usual Fritzs Weiner stand near aisle 25? Walked all the way there to find it didn't exist, so walk back to the entrance to find massive queue at the one Weiner stand, so didn't bother at all.

I suspect that Fritz can't have a stand in the stadium anymore seeing current caterers are providing gourmet hotdogs, even though they'd sold out before half time.

Silly me for thinking like a customer. I remember a few years back when the stadium food copped huge flak for being dire, and the introduction of Fritz was one of several noticeable improvements made at that time. Looks we may reverting back to the old ways. Tbh good isn't a critical issue for me going to the stadium, but having to put with shark music definitely is.

Perhaps the AWs coach can man a stand over the summer.

He’s doing fudge all at the moment, German speakers usually make a fine wiener, no need to change the business name, a great grassroots gesture to engage with AWs fans, and would bring in some badly needed dineros for cash strapped NZF.

Ain't gonna happen. As article says Perth & a 2nd Brisbane team are massive favourites for any NRL expansion.

Rockhampton (Central QLD - a big traditional league heartland), Central Coast, Ipswich and PNG are also possibilities.

Wellington way down the list.

[Quoting Valeo from the A-League Expansion thread]

Kiwi conundrum

Sticking with expansion, and many observers on this side of the ditch are assuming Wellington Phoenix will be punted from the A-League when their licence expires at the end of next season and replaced by another expansion team.

Welnix, the club's ownership group, is pinning their hopes of survival on the A-League's pending split away from FFA control. In the event they are granted a stay of execution, the Hairdryer understands they are exploring the possibility of playing more games at the Hutt Recreation Ground.

YES PLEASE. If only. Redevop the ground, remove the current stand and make it a 12k stadium. Terraces at each end with room for 2k in each terrace & two stands, one on each side with seating for 4k each. You have parking, transport facilities, shopping and places to eat and drink. Would be brilliant imho.

Surely there is no space for this to happen with the hockey artificial court that has been added since we had games there?

It is well known they are keen to play at the Hutt Wreck again but as Domey said on the podcast earlier this season, the economics need to work. Think he said it would have cost $500k to play the two February games there cuz the lighting needs upgrading for TV.

So is Vince just repeating that or are their some new developments?

Or they could have battled for a 3pm KO and avoided the need for lights.

A call by the Wellington Phoenix to return to the Hutt Rec has again focused attention on the need for a regional 10,000 seat facility.

Reid still believes there are options for a boutique stadium in Lower Hutt but they did not include Petone Rec or the Hutt Rec.

That would appear to leave Hutt Park (Seaview) and Fraser Park. The council spent $12.5m on Fraser Park Sportsville and Reid said that meant some of the infrastructure was already in place.

The success of the Westpac Stadium was due to its proximity to the rail corridor and State Highway 1, he said.

Grenada North met that criteria and he believed it could be ideal. The CIT site in Upper Hutt was also a possibility.

Yes please - The Central Learning Institute of Technology. I could walk to games! You have the Tote for prematch, 2 train stations right beside the place - Heretaunga & Trentham. Plenty of parking too.I would not have to shift swap, justwalk across the road to games at the end of a 6-2.

Frazer Park would be good BUT, too far from trains. Wingegate being the closest. Bus service is ok.

Heard that being spoken of at the last Nix home game. But transport, Hockey move would be required?

Did some crazy person in that article actually suggest Grenada North as a venue?!?! That's a 20 minute walk uphill from the nearest train station! I thought it was only in Auckland where people thought that if you didn't have a car you weren't a human being.

But no turn off as such. it's a real drive all over the place once you take the turn off. Yet, you could throw tennis balls off the ground to the motorway. Perhaps the transmission motorway might sort that out??

Reading this makes me real sad. We could've been in a new, purpose built stadium by now.

IIRC when the Phoenix were pushing for it they had their license application renewal rejected. The councils weren't going to invest in a stadium if they couldn't guaranty a tenant for ten years and the Phoenix changed focus to their survival. Also could have been just a stunt to help with the license bid.

So I've read folk mention that those bridges are burnt etc, what happened?
