That photo doesn't even do Hayden Foxe justice. You've really got to see it jogging around on the sideline. Great LOLs.

The best thing about the angst on other threads today is the underlying optimism and expectations we supporters now have. A few years ago we would have been partying with a draw against the back to back champions, but now we are dissapointed and believe we are better and good enough to have taken all the points..

I'm sick and tired of supporting a team that doesn't win every match. It causes me much pain.

The prawn sandwiches that I took to the game could not be fully enjoyed, such was the standard of play. I had to resort to some borrowed cucumber sandwiches.
At least the crusts were trimmed so all was not totally lost.

I'm sure the urge to have a nibble on a Fritz's Wiener is causing a lot of angst also. There is only so long a grown man can resist a good wiener, despite how much someone dislikes buying stadium food.

This certainly applies to some people but others will remain happy with 1 point at home for various reasons - players had internationals / Ifill isn't fit / it's only been 3 games / Husyegems needs 6 weeks to be ready / Totori needs time / it was windy...etc etc...

Not saying I am completely unhappy with the 1 point incidentally, but I still think that second half last week was there for the taking, and we should've done a bit more to try and win the match yesterday, 2nd half in particular when we had about 1 attack of note.

Hopefully we can improve our appalling record in Adelaide next week where, ironically, I'd settle for a point!

For the corresponsing fixture last season, when we also drew 1-1 with the Roar, we were all ecstatic with the draw. So it wasn't just a few years ago, but exactly one year ago.

That was away from home though, and Brisbane were hammering everyone at that time!  Can't remember how we were going, but I think we all thought a severe hammering was on the cards.

We had just come off three losses in a row. I completely agree with you, and I think that shows how far we have come in the last 12 months as a club.

I saw two stalls selling Fritz's Wiener - must make a killing.
I have had the pleasure of gobbling down Fritz's Wiener before - very tasty but also expensive.  A bit out of my league.

Isn't part of the reason why expectations are high this year is that Herbert has had the time to put together the squad he wants, prepare without off field stuff distracting him and there aren't a whole lot of reasons why we shouldn't be competitive with the top teams this year other than our own on pitch failings?

I'm nervous about our midfield - I don't think there's enough passing in there for us to compete with the top teams which has pretty much been a consistent failing for Herbert sides.

We currently have the least amount of passes completed in the entire league.

Nothing new there, pretty sure we come last in that every season.

There's no excuses for not passing the ball around like Spain.

To be fair though, we probably should be passing it a bit more with the players we now have, just our midfielders often don't have the time or space to hold the ball for long periods..

However you can still play the ball on the deck and be direct. The nix traditionally dont hold the ball for long, but that doesn't rule out our ability to play nice passes along the deck as we move the ball up the pitch, we just dont play around with it as much as other sides

edit, we just don't faff around with it as much as sides like Brisbane do

ffs if the expectation of good football is to pass it around amongst your back four and the odd midfielder for half an hour every game then Craig Foster and mates can stick it

much more fun watching Totori fall over, Brockie catch both feet on top of the ball, Ifill make out like a screw top not sure whether it wants a drink or not and Manny missing his dark shades and violin case (but everybody still knows not to mess with the Maltese Falcon)

not enough sex and violence in aussie football.  Needs more knock-outs

Maltese Falcon
Spade and Archer is the name of a San Francisco detective agency. That's for Sam Spade and Miles Archer. The two men are partners, but Sam doesn't like Miles much. A knockout, who goes by the name of Miss Wanderly, walks into their office; and by that night everything's changed. Miles is dead. And so is a man named Floyd Thursby. It seems Miss Wanderly is surrounded by dangerous men. There's Joel Cairo, who uses gardenia-scented calling cards. There's Kasper Gutman, with his enormous girth and feigned civility. Her only hope of protection comes from Manny, who is suspected by the police of one or the other murder. More murders are yet to come, and it will all be because of these dangerous men -- and their lust for a statuette of a bird: the Maltese Falcon.

Thanks to Fred Woodcock on stuff for getting stuck into Herbert for this clanger

"This is a transition year for us and we may go up and down a bit but the club is really starting to evolve."

Don't think RH gets it. The objective is a top 2 finish and a home final. Nothing less. If that's not where Herbert's head is at, then move him on. This is a squad more than capable of achieving a Top 2 finish.

Doesn't mean it isn't still a transition year and it doesn't mean he isn't looking for a top 2 finish.

If this year is a transition year, what the hell do we call last year.

Ricki likes to play the under dog card, let him do that publicly so long as in the dressing room he's telliing the team they're champions in the making.

But it has been a transition year... we are only in the first phase of our nix accademy, and we are still carrying below par players from previous seasons..

Clearly our grass is too sticky to play a sexy passing game.
